The document discusses identifying the target demographic for a hard rock/metal music magazine. The primary audience is fans of that genre who will be attracted to covers featuring bands displaying themes of passion and rebellion through their posture, facial expressions, and clothing. A medium shot on the cover will capture 3-4 band members in a way that conveys their unity and comradery through casual touches like an arm around a shoulder or eyes rolled at each other. Interviews are also an important draw for readers hoping to learn more about their favorite artists.

Identification of my demographic for my music magazine
1. Identification of my demographic for my music magazine
The genre ofmy music magazine is going to be that of hard rock and/ormetal meaning
that I will have to tap in to the correctdemographic when producing mymagazine with
secondaryand tertiary audiences in mind as well butmy primary audience should be the
priority when producing mywork as they will be reference point for my finalized design
and for my portfolio aboutthe work previously aforementioned.
Who is my demographic?
Well the magazine Iam designing should perfectly representand encapsulate the music
I have decided to base said work upon as the music magazine is trying to attract a
specific audience through the medium ofthe music represented to draw in that audience
so when designing my magazine it’s important to knowthe audiences wants and needs
when it come to their music as that specific music will carry certain themes that I will
carry across in the cover for example since the music of my choice is hard rock and/or
heavy metal I will have to carry over themes of wild passion and zanydemeanours that
the artists of my cover will have as well as themes on social class and
establishmentarian powerthat has be a staple of the music for year. Fashion also be
a factor in my cover as that will reflect the characteristics and personalities of the bands
on display for example it’s common that you will find a band like west life all wearing slick
suits and placing their arms on each other’s shoulders, this will give the audience the
impression that they are suave which also brings aboutother more connotations like
intellect or success;furthermore their body language gives the viewer the impression
that there is a bond and form of comraderybetween the subjects.
2. Ideas for my cover
The shotthat I will use in my music magazine coveris a medium long shotas the shot
will be long enough to encapsulate the 3-4 subjects in frame in the band that will be on
the front cover as well as being close to make the subjects the focus of the medium shot
while not directly focusing on a particular memberor subtly focusing on the mostzany
characterto give the audience the immediate impression ofthe wild unapologetic nature
that encapsulates the genre
The cover is kept behind
to the main subjects of
the image as to focus on
the main selling point of
the magazine
The posture of the recipients gives the audience
the idea that the people are united as shown by
the arm on the shoulder implying that they have
a strong enough friendship to invade each
other’s personal space
The roll-over of the eyes
gives the impression of
comradery between that
is synonymous within a
group and gives the
reader impression that
there is an element of
bickering between the
group making the
prospect of being a
group more realistic
With these music magazines, exclusiveinterviews
are always a good selling point to hook audiences
because although audiences may have particular
magazines that they are loyal to the main
influence of someone’s purchase is whichwell-
known artist the magazine is able be involved
with.
They will promote the artist album to
garner attention created by the fans that
are in anticipating the bands album
The eyes being directed at the audience
creates an immediate connection between
the audience and the subjects as portrait
images is a good way to illustrate the
features synonymous with the characters
as weget a clear image of their faces and
develop their image.
The plain background combined with their black
bold clothing means those very little distractions
when viewing the cover and the eyeis drawn to
contrasting colours more effectively.
The bright font greatly
contrast the plain
background and draws
our eyes towards the
marketable features of
the cover that will draw
in readers because of
artist and not the
magazine itself.
