‘SAS: WHO DARES WINS’
By Josh Bateman
CONTENT OUTLINE
In this proposal I will be explaining and showing the
different elements of my short film. I will be outlining
these different elements:
• Target audience
• Resources
• Personnel requirements, e.g. cast and crew, team,
specialists; budget; project schedule
SAS: Who Dares Wins is about a squadron of SAS soldiers who are friends as well, they are
attacking an enemy compound, the film starts with them scouting out the enemies location and
appropriate entrance point, once scouted they moved in and a SAS sniper set up at an
advantage point. Further down the line one of each enemy and SAS soldier is taken out apart
from one SAS soldier who kills the rest of the enemies.
TARGET AUDIENCE
The audience I will be targeting will be teenagers and
adults from the ages of 16-45. The reason I will be
targeting this audience is because it is the average
age that people who would watch an action
production.
TARGET AUDIENCE
A question I asked to my target audience
through my questionnaire, was “What is your
favourite genre?”, the results I got back were:
60% of my target audience preferred the
action genre to comedy (30%) and
horror(10%).
Question Analysis:
RESOURCES
In my short film I will need different types of
resources such as production equipment,
properties, costume.
For production equipment I will be using a:
• Canon Legria HF R28 (camera)- the reason why
this camera is appropriate for my production is
because it shoots in HD quality, as well as it being
very easy to transport because of its size.
• Libec T650 (tripod)- the reason why this tripod is
appropriate is because it allows me to shoot steady
shots on different terrain, as well as being very
easy for me to access.
• Tascam DR-40 Linear PCM Recorder (audio
recorder)- this sound recorder is appropriate for
my production because it allows me to collect
different sounds as well as high quality dialogue,
furthermore this piece of equipment is very easy
for me to access.
• Avid Media Composer (Editing software)- the
reason why this editing software is appropriate is
because it is one of the best editing software
available as well as it is very easy for me to access.
RESOURCES
For the props I will be using a:
• SVD BB gun- the reason why this prop is appropriate for my
film is because the squadron and enemies must have guns to
make the film look professional. This props can be accessed
through my friend who has few BB guns including this one.
• Army back pack- the reason why this prop is appropriate for
my film is because the squadron need to look real so army
backpacks will add to the costume and the setting. This is
easily available because I have access to one through my
uncle who works in the army.
• Army vest- the reason why this prop is appropriate for my
film is because the squadron need to look real so army vests
will add to the costumes and setting. This is easily available
because I have access to one through my uncle who works in
the army.
• Fake blood- the reason why this prop is appropriate for my
film is because the squadron and enemies need to have
blood on them when dead or alive. This is easily available on
eBay/amazon for £2.50
RESOURCES
For Costumes I will be using:
• Army vest- this costume piece is appropriate for my film because it
makes the characters look real. This is easily available because I have
access to one through my uncle who works in the army.
• Back pack-this costume piece is appropriate for my film because it
makes the characters look real. This is easily available because I have
access to one through my uncle who works in the army.
• Camo paint-this costume piece is appropriate for my film because it
makes the characters look real. This is easily available because I have
access to one through my uncle who works in the army.
• Bandana-this costume piece is appropriate for my film because it makes
the characters look real. This is easily available because I have access to
one through my uncle who works in the army.
• Boots-this costume piece is appropriate for my film because it makes
the characters look real. This is easily available because I have access to
one through my uncle who works in the army.
• Heavy duty trousers-this costume piece is appropriate for my film
because it makes the characters look real. This is easily available because
I have access to one through my uncle who works in the army.
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS – CAST & CREW
For my crew I will use a skeleton crew which will consist of a:
Director Of Photography, Sound recorder, Director, Editor
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS – CAST &
CREW
For my cast I will need 5 male actors to play the part of the squadron and 5 to be
the antagonist. As these are my friends it wont cost anything to hire them, this is
really helpful to me because I don’t have a big budget.
James (Josh Bateman) Arya (Himself) Joseph (Himself) Harry (Himself) Ryan (Himself)
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS -
TEAM
I will need a team of individuals to help with the production, these people
would be a:
• Transporter ;so that we can move equipment the cast/crew around.
• Production Assistant ;this person will be the runner and get important
things for the cast and crew.
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS - SPECIALISTS
The specialists that I would need for my
production would be an editor, DoP and make-up
artist. The reason why I would need a specialist in
editing is so that I can have good edits in chase
scene and special effect when needed. I would
want a specialist DoP because they will provide
good shots of the scene which will allow the
editor to improve the productions. Finally I feel
like having a make-up specialist would make sure
that the character fits the scene and it looks
realistic.
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS – BUDGET
I am working with a little to no budget
so I will have to ask favours and borrow
equipment/props so that I can save
costs.

PROJECT SCHEDULE
Shooting days
Starting date Finishing date
23/05/2016 27/05/2016
On these days I have made it clear that I must
have all the cast and crew available on these
days so that I can have an efficient shoot.
Doing this will mean I can save time for post-
production. I estimate that it will take me
between 3-5 days to edit my film.
MARKET FIT
My film is perfect for this market because it is the only short available that is about
the army, more specifically the SAS, this means I will be able to bring in more
viewers because I am unique with my film idea. My main competitor would be
Retribution (2015), which is about a spy being betrayed then getting his revenge.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA20RFE74Hg&t=21s
DISTRIBUTION
The method of distribution I will use will be online
broadcasting, this s because the target audience are
majority a younger audience, this means online
platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo etc. are perfect.
Furthermore these platforms are free to upload to
and watch, this because more people are likely going
to watch it, plus these platforms are used by millions
of people which means I can broadcast to a large
amount of people.

  • 16. MARKET FIT My film is perfect for this market because it is the only short available that is about the army, more specifically the SAS, this means I will be able to bring in more viewers because I am unique with my film idea. My main competitor would be Retribution (2015), which is about a spy being betrayed then getting his revenge. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eA20RFE74Hg&t=21s
  • 17. DISTRIBUTION The method of distribution I will use will be online broadcasting, this s because the target audience are majority a younger audience, this means online platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo etc. are perfect. Furthermore these platforms are free to upload to and watch, this because more people are likely going to watch it, plus these platforms are used by millions of people which means I can broadcast to a large amount of people.
