 In this picture there are women cooking in the early 1900’s in a basement/warehouse.
 A male is present getting food to eat.
 The women are cooking the food for the men and maybe others that are hungry.
 The women are creating a form of soup kitchen.
 It was a struggling time for everyone back then.
 It shows how far we came compared from then to now.
 “What were they making?”
 “Soup Kitchen now OPEN.”
 Look up the era based on the clothing.
 It was during the Great Depression.
 Times were hard back then.
 People helped one another back then.

 Hitler, a little boy, the boy’s mother, and other people are there sitting on a bench.
 Hitler is greeting a young boy.
 Hitler can be nice and cares for the young children.
 Everyone sees Hitler as an evil person; but this picture shows something different.
 What are they doing and is it a meeting?
 “Fake or Real?”
 Look up Hitler and the meetings he had during the Holocaust.
 He’s trying to be kind.
 He’s gaining his followers’ respect.
 He’s showing the world he’s not evil.

 There are cops/African Americans/dogs in the picture.
 There is a riot going on and the dogs are attacking the African Americans.
 This pictures shows Racism.
 This picture is taken during the 1950’s-1960’s (Segregation).
 Did anyone get hurt?
 “When will it end?”
 Look up the riots in the 1960’s.
 Segregation has come a long way.
 Segregation was very dangerous.
 People finally learned to respect each other.

 There is an African American man hanging from the Statue of Liberty.
 An African American is being hung from the torch of the Statue of Liberty.
 Segregation; America has not always been free for others.
 We came a long way from segregation (1950’s-1960).
 “Are we really free?”
 Look up the artist who drew this and find out the meaning behind it.
 Racism is taken very seriously.
 Segregation is taken very seriously.
 These are lives that matter; no matter what the differences are.

 A immigrate family looking at the Statute of Liberty.
 They are looking at the Statue of Liberty.
 Whether you are from America or not; you are consider free in America.
 This picture is based in the 1930’s-1940’s; showing the importance of immigration back
then.
 Where did they come from and why did they come here?
 “Welcome Home”
 Look up the artist that drew the picture and find out why he drew it.
 Families came here for a better future.
 People came here for freedom.
 Lives were better when they came to America.

 A soldier is checking men in a concertation camp.
 The soldier is checking the men’s eyes before they enter the concertation camp.
 The message is that everyone that was put in a camp had to be examine before entering.
 It shows the struggle of the people that went through this.
 What are they looking for as they examine the men.
 “If you’re not us; then you don’t belong.”
 Look up how people enter the concertation camps.
 People judge others based on their looks.
 People can be cruel.
 People think they’re better than others.

Picture analysis

  • 1. Picture 1  In this picture there are women cooking in the early 1900’s in a basement/warehouse.  A male is present getting food to eat.  The women are cooking the food for the men and maybe others that are hungry.  The women are creating a form of soup kitchen.  It was a struggling time for everyone back then.  It shows how far we came compared from then to now.  “What were they making?”  “Soup Kitchen now OPEN.”  Look up the era based on the clothing.  It was during the Great Depression.  Times were hard back then.  People helped one another back then. Picture 2  Hitler, a little boy, the boy’s mother, and other people are there sitting on a bench.  Hitler is greeting a young boy.  Hitler can be nice and cares for the young children.  Everyone sees Hitler as an evil person; but this picture shows something different.  What are they doing and is it a meeting?  “Fake or Real?”  Look up Hitler and the meetings he had during the Holocaust.  He’s trying to be kind.  He’s gaining his followers’ respect.  He’s showing the world he’s not evil. Picture 3  There are cops/African Americans/dogs in the picture.  There is a riot going on and the dogs are attacking the African Americans.  This pictures shows Racism.  This picture is taken during the 1950’s-1960’s (Segregation).  Did anyone get hurt?  “When will it end?”  Look up the riots in the 1960’s.  Segregation has come a long way.  Segregation was very dangerous.  People finally learned to respect each other.
  • 2. Picture 4  There is an African American man hanging from the Statue of Liberty.  An African American is being hung from the torch of the Statue of Liberty.  Segregation; America has not always been free for others.  We came a long way from segregation (1950’s-1960).  “Are we really free?”  Look up the artist who drew this and find out the meaning behind it.  Racism is taken very seriously.  Segregation is taken very seriously.  These are lives that matter; no matter what the differences are. Picture 5  A immigrate family looking at the Statute of Liberty.  They are looking at the Statue of Liberty.  Whether you are from America or not; you are consider free in America.  This picture is based in the 1930’s-1940’s; showing the importance of immigration back then.  Where did they come from and why did they come here?  “Welcome Home”  Look up the artist that drew the picture and find out why he drew it.  Families came here for a better future.  People came here for freedom.  Lives were better when they came to America. Picture 6  A soldier is checking men in a concertation camp.  The soldier is checking the men’s eyes before they enter the concertation camp.  The message is that everyone that was put in a camp had to be examine before entering.  It shows the struggle of the people that went through this.  What are they looking for as they examine the men.  “If you’re not us; then you don’t belong.”  Look up how people enter the concertation camps.  People judge others based on their looks.  People can be cruel.  People think they’re better than others.
