1. I see 4 young boys riding bicycles. They are all wearing backpacks and raising their right
arm to the sky. It looks like they are riding on an old dirt road. You can see trees as well
as a field in the background. This picture was most likely taken in the 1940’s.
2. I see 13 men in the military posing for a picture with guns. Some of the men are
smoking and many are shirtless. I can tell they are military men because they are in
uniform and dog tags are visible. This picture was most likely taken abroad during war.
3. I see a group of men dumping gallons of water into the street. There are nicely dressed
men and industrial looking men. A couple of the men seem pleased and are smiling. I
am not sure where this photo was taken, but it is in a town or city. I think this picture
was taken during the 20’s or 40’s?

Picture 1:
1. This image shows women cooking.
2. The situation is that they are cooking in a kitchen. One woman is mixing things and one
is standing by the stove.
3. The message this image is trying to convey that only women cooked backed in this day.
4. Historically during this time period, the women were the ones who cooked, cleaned and
cared for the family/household.

and support him as a leader.

1. The people in this image are African American citizens, police officers and German
Sheppards.
2. The situation is a crowd of African Americans citizens, dogs attacking a man and
police being called to the scene.
3. This was most likely taken during the times of segregation. The message of this
image is how difficult and unfair African Americans were treated back in that day.
4. This is important to history because it shows how brutal times were back during
segregation.

that required the police to show up with the dogs?

3. I am not sure exactly what this image is trying to convey. The man in this image is African
American. My partner and I thought maybe it was trying to convey that this land is free for
everyone except African Americans?
4. This would be important to history because there are several periods of time throughout
history that African Americans haven’t been treated as equals.

of the free or they are admiring a national landmark.

people who came here from abroad in hopes on living the American dream.
