2. Empire Magazine is published and owned by a company called Bauer Media, who also
publish magazines such as the music magazines, Q, Mojo, Kerrang!
It aims to cover a range of films which draws the attention of a larger audience. Their main
focus are the films that will be a hit, like a ‘Blockbuster’, and connect well with a larger
audience. Yet they also focus on films that are not mainstream too.
The masthead is always recognisable for the audience as it is usually bright red coloured
and covers the top of the front page. This would be the first thing the buyer would be able
to see which is appealing to the eye. The images used are the stars in their costumes with a
visible facial expression for the audience to recognise what film is being focused on that
issue. This is the best selling film magazine around.

3. Total film is published by Future Publishing company. It uses the
latest films which do well to draw in its audience yet it does not
really have a target audience as there is no specific genre or style of
film that they choose to focus on therefore this would be aimed at a
large variety of people. The tagline, ‘The Modern giude to Movies’
suggest it has an up to date and recent look on reviews and
interviews. The masthead is very large and takes up the top third of
the magazine front cover which is very recognisable for its audience
to find. This film magazine is similar to Empire.

4. Sight and Sound are owned and published by the company BFI (British Film
Institution) which on Sight and Sounds website. They use lottery fund which help
them invest in a wide range of British films to develop talents. They hope this will
define Britain in the 21st century for people viewing the films at home and abroad.
They focus on an older educated audience of both sexes, who would be more
interested on background information about the films although it does still cover top
hit films. Its tag line ‘The International Film Magazine’ is reliable to its target audience
as it seems to be trustworthy and well known. Its title had a bright yellow background
with large black font to stand out well on it. This is recognisable for its audience. The
cover lines refer to directors, festivals and academic studies of films. The name makes
you instantly think of a film because that is what you experience.

5. Little White Lies is a magazine which is produced by The Church Of
London. As you can see from the pictures below, the images are the
main key of the magazine which are drawn and use different colours and
change to animate the image. As these covers are so interesting, they
draw the audience in by being so different to the other film magazines.
This magazine is aimed at those audiences who prefer images and visual
content than a lot of writing. Yet it does still include information on films
which are well known blockbusters.

6. SFX focuses on Sci-Fi and Fantasy which you can see from its
tagline ‘Let’s Talk SCI-FI’. This involves films and also Television
programs such as Doctor Who. Its published by Future Publishing
company which also publishes Total Film, which is a very different
genre. It has a large mast head which stands out well against the
colourful and busy backgrounds of the sci-fi/fantasy characters
and settings. It also looks modern but with the glow around looks
like special effects on a film. It also uses large main cover lines
which cover the image but stand out and relate to the images.

7. There is also, Uncut magazine which is a hybrid magazine which focuses
on mainly music yet also does occasionally have films and reviews. The
masthead is relative to both music and film as it symbolises the
shooting of a film or music video.
The summary to my film magazine analysis
I found that those which have taglines are relevant to their genre
or specify how well known they are in that industry. The mast
heads are a variety of styles depending on their target audience
and style of the magazine as a whole, for example, you would not
see SFX with a small serif font. Most of these magazines focus on
blockbuster films and those that will draw the audience in by
famous stars covering the front.
