There are 9,932,434 women-owned businesses in
the United States. That’s an increase of 2,140,319
businesses, or 27.5%, from 2007. (Women Research
Center, 2015)
In fact, between 1997 and 2014, when the number
of businesses in the United States increased by
47%, the number of women-owned firms increased
by 68%—a rate 1½ times the national average.
(Amex Open, 2014)
National Data
The McKinsey Institute recently
reported, if women business owners
achieved the same level of success as
their male counterparts, we could add
$3.2 trillion dollars to the national
GDP.
Despite the development of hundreds of groups,
resources and individuals that serve women
business owners large gaps still exist according
to the WSJ, the average revenues of majority
women-owned businesses were still only 27% of
the average of majority men-owned businesses.
Arizona is rapidly descending on the national
rankings of female friendly states, missing out
on a huge economic development opportunity.
According to the recently released 2012 census
other states like Texas, Florida and D.C. have
increased the percentage of women owned
businesses by 39-42 percent Arizona expanded
women owned firms by 33%.
In 2015 The Business Journals released a report on SMB
Insight, it stated that Businesses owned and run by
women provide marketers with a substantial opportunity
for two major reasons:
They are one of the largest and fastest growing sub-
segments of the U.S. business market
Women owners show markedly different beliefs and
attitudes about business relative to their male peers.
Thus, they need to be both addressed and spoken to
differently.
Exploring growth rates between 1997 and 2013,
women-owned firms were actually keeping
pace— compared to overall average revenue
and employment growth—all along the business
size spectrum, the million-dollar revenue mark,
often termed the “Heartbreak Hill” of the
entrepreneurial marathon.
These reports have also pointed out clearly
where growth pains lie—among firms with
between five and nine employees and those
with between one-quarter to one half million
in revenues. (Amex Open, 2014).

PhXX We are a community collaboration of stakeholders (women business owners, female entrepreneurs, women’s initiative and networking groups, civic and corporate leaders and organizations) committed to the economic development and prosperity of women business owners and entrepreneurs in Phoenix.

  • 14. There are 9,932,434 women-owned businesses in the United States. That’s an increase of 2,140,319 businesses, or 27.5%, from 2007. (Women Research Center, 2015) In fact, between 1997 and 2014, when the number of businesses in the United States increased by 47%, the number of women-owned firms increased by 68%—a rate 1½ times the national average. (Amex Open, 2014)
  • 16. The McKinsey Institute recently reported, if women business owners achieved the same level of success as their male counterparts, we could add $3.2 trillion dollars to the national GDP.
  • 17. Despite the development of hundreds of groups, resources and individuals that serve women business owners large gaps still exist according to the WSJ, the average revenues of majority women-owned businesses were still only 27% of the average of majority men-owned businesses.
  • 18. Arizona is rapidly descending on the national rankings of female friendly states, missing out on a huge economic development opportunity. According to the recently released 2012 census other states like Texas, Florida and D.C. have increased the percentage of women owned businesses by 39-42 percent Arizona expanded women owned firms by 33%.

In 2015 The Business Journals released a report on SMB Insight, it stated that Businesses owned and run by women provide marketers with a substantial opportunity for two major reasons: They are one of the largest and fastest growing sub- segments of the U.S. business market Women owners show markedly different beliefs and attitudes about business relative to their male peers. Thus, they need to be both addressed and spoken to differently.
  • 20. Exploring growth rates between 1997 and 2013, women-owned firms were actually keeping pace— compared to overall average revenue and employment growth—all along the business size spectrum, the million-dollar revenue mark, often termed the “Heartbreak Hill” of the entrepreneurial marathon. These reports have also pointed out clearly where growth pains lie—among firms with between five and nine employees and those with between one-quarter to one half million in revenues. (Amex Open, 2014).
