The document outlines photography plans for a rock music magazine cover and spreads. 1. Photography Planning – Front Cover
On my front cover I will use a
medium close up of a young
man, as they are the main people
who purchase the magazine. It
will be an eye level angled shot.
My model will be wearing a
black hoodie/jacket, along with
jeans, as this is how a typical
Rock fan dresses.
Throughout my magazine I
need to and will vary the
models who are starring in the
photos, as magazines don’t
USUALLY have the same
people in the image on every
page.
In terms of location, I will take the
majority of my photos in a studio,
so they’re of a better quality.
On my front cover I will have a
photo of just the one young man
in a studio, looking down – which
makes him look quite casual. The
front cover is going to be linked to
the double page spread, so the
front cover will have the Arctic
Monkeys album cover logo behind
the model in the photo. Then
after the photo is taken I will put a
plug or banner on the side saying
‘Take a look into Alex Turner’s role
in the new AM album – exclusive!’
– Therefore this photo will be
taken in a studio.

2. Double Page Spread
On the double page spread I will get a
medium long shot photo of 2 or 3
young men all looking at each other
laughing. This will also be a low angle
photo. This will represent 3 members
of a band being united, which is what
fans of their favourite bands want to
see. I will use an outdoor location for
this photo, or if I do take it in a studio, I
will place a brick wall effect behind it so
it looks like it is a taken next to an
actual brick wall. This adds a sense of
realism. I will take this photo with the
models leaning against a brick wall, as
the brick effect looks pretty plain yet is
effective.
I intend on the 3 models wearing not so
colourful clothing, but dressing
maturely – so not wearing tracksuits
etc, but also not wearing a suit!

3. Contents Page
For the contents page I want 2 or 3 images. One of
the 3 members of the band together, one of the
main person in the band alone, and one of the
other two members of the band. These images will
all the taken in the studio. I intend on using a prop
such as a guitar for at least 1 of these 3 photos, as
obviously a guitar is related to music, and especially
the rare acoustics bands such as Arctic Monkeys do.
A leather jacket or something similar is an essential
piece of clothing that one of my models will need to
wear (ideally) to look like a Rock star! Below I have
gathered some examples of the type of photos I am
looking to take. The majority of shots will be eye
level angle.

eye level, and a medium
long shot.

other band members
will be at eye level, and
a medium long shot.
