1. Key Locations for Photographs
For my magazine, I will be showing my artist in a variety of locations. The magazine will
have the artist on the front cover, but also have images from album covers, gigs and
music videos. I have to think of various locations to take the images of my artist.
2. After looking at other artists and their album covers, I have come up with some ideas for
the album covers that will be featured.
I got most of my inspiration from these 3 album covers. These come from various
alternative rock artists; I like the idea of the artist being alone in the image and being
very casual. I also like the calm, plain colour schemes, particularly in the middle cover,
“This Outsider”, the colours almost make the image look sepia, yet it is still in colour. I
also like the serif fonts used, it makes the album covers feel more dated, along with the
faded colours of some of the covers, it adds to the aged feel of the covers. Another part I
like is the use of props in Andrew Stein’s cover; he has the acoustic guitar next to him.
3. I also want to feature images from music videos, such as behind-the-scenes images and
frames from the music video. For this I decided to look at abandoned areas for the
images, such as warehouses and alleyways. During my research I found various
abandoned locations in the UK, such as train stations and warehouses. The decaying
buildings looked aged, yet their learning of their history made me interested in taking the
images in them, many of the warehouses had large windows that had been smashed
and damaged, and this made the lighting come through like spotlights. The aged glass
also made the lighting easier to see, it was brighter and slightly orange.
I decided that I would take the images outside, in an industrial area, I want to have
slightly damaged and ages buildings in the background. I found some locations to take
that aren’t too far away.
