2. MODELSMy research had told me that most of my target audience are females under the age of 18. Taking that into account, I
wanted to place a young adult male on the front cover on my magazine. That way it will attract the female gaze.
Although Indie Rock music is more heard of to be produced by bands, I will place either a solo artists or only one
member of a band on my front cover. This is because according to my research results , most of my potential
audience will prefer a maagzine that is more organised. It is likely that if I feature more than one person on the front
cover as well as information it might look hectic.
The contents page will include a picture of the male that appeared on the front cover as well as a picture of the
artists that my double page spread is about. In addition, I want to include a picture of an artist/band I went to see.
This way the maagzine looks professional as it shows how there is a varity of content involved within it.
I am planning to make the double page spread about a new duo featuring Anais Gallagher (age 17) and Molly
Gallagher (age 19) who are the daughters of the brothers from the British, rock group called Oasis. I thought this
would be convenient as Anais is younger and a blonde and Molly is older and a brunnette which matches the
descriptions of my two closest friends. In addition the article would be entirely music related as the girls come from a
music related family.

3. LOCATIONSInitially, for my front cover, I wanted to take the picture to make it obvious that the
magazine is about music. Therefore, I did consider taking the picture in a recording studio
however I decided against it since I wanted the focus of the cover page to be on the
character/model, not the setting. Additionally, I figured that the background (recording
studio) will be too distracting and will not cooperate well, and may even clash, with the
information that will also we displayed on the cover page.
On the contents page, I will include a variety of pictures ranging from being taken in the
studio to outdoors and even some from concerts/gigs. This will immediatly show my
audience the range that my magazine offers.
For the double page spread, I had planned out three main locations that were accessiable
for me and my models to take photographs. I knew that I wanted the focus to be about the
Gallagher girls duo and because of this I wanted the photos to be taken in locations that
were not music related and instead focus the content (interview) solely on music. I thought
of places such as abandoned train tracks, an empty hut surrounded by leaves as well as a
lake. All locations involved with nature to show the freshness, purity and potentail
danger/mysterious vibe from the lake and train tracks. Visually, I also think that having my
models pose near a brick wall adds to the Indie style and adds to the rebelious impression.

4. COSTUMEFor the costume of the male character on the cover page, I will want him to wear
elements of a stereotypical Indie outfit mixed with casual teenage boy fashion.
Ideally, I would have the male wear a plain hoodie/ t-shirt or sweater in either a
black, grey or nude colour. This shows the effortless style that can appeal to male
audiences of my magazine as they will see it as something affordable yet stylish. On
top of that he will wear a denim jacket which has been seen as an Indie essential for
decades and it never seems to go out of style. To make the outfit simple, like
mentioned before, black skinny, ripped jeans as well as trainers.
The concert pictures I will be using for my contents page, I will choose carefully so
that the band/artists wears clothing that evidently fit the Indie Rock genre.
For the photographs that I will be using for the double page spread, I would like to
have a small amount of non dramatic costume changes to make the pictures look
professional and as though the girls had a real photoshoot. The costume that I would
prefer them to wear would be dull colours (browns, blacks, greys and elements of
white) to fit into the natural locations that they will be in. Both of them will have
Indie style clothing such as corduroy or denim jackets. In addition, I would like one of
them to wear trousers and the other one to wear a skirt to show the diverse styles
that they can both pull off. Here, I have an aim of appealing to both males that like
more feminine girls and ones that prefer a stylish yet well put together girl. This
words similar to my female audience, as they can gain inspiration no matter what
style they prefer more. I also think that occasionally adding flannels will add a more
casual look to their well put together costumes.

5. PROPSAs my front page will include a studio picture of a male, I want to add a feature that
will tell anyone looking at it that ‘Metronome’ is a music magazine. I decided that the
best way of doing that would be to have props that the model at the front of the
magazine will be holding. The most suitable props would be instruments and because
of the genre of my music magazine being Indie Rock (with features of classic rock and
alternative) I decided that the fitting instrument would be an electric guitar. I then had
the debate of what colour the guitar should be and looking at my magazine colour
scheme (red and yellow) and the planned costume of what the male character on the
front cover would be wearing, I decided to go for either blue or red. The red electric
guitar would fit in well with the planned colour scheme and the information
presented on the front. However to tie in the denim jacket that the male model will
be wearing, the blue guitar would also work.
Since for the contents page I will include at least one picture of a live gig that I had
taken previously, I will make sure it will be a picture that has visible instruments such
as electric guitar, or drums.
I decided against having any singular, specific prop for the pictures that I will take for
my double page spread. This is because the locations that I chose will include items
such as the train tracks that will do the justice and achieve the ‘rebellious’ and ‘rock’
atmosphere that I am aiming for. Adding props such as instruments will make the
photoshoot look out of place. Although there will be nothing involved in the picture
that directly relates to music, the content of the interview will make up for that.
Moreover, I am planning on the girls using parts of their costume (like jackets or
flannel shirts) also as props to show that they are fashionable, up to date, new artists
that are entering the music industry.

6. LIGHTING AND KITStudio pictures will require a professional camera and tripod for it to stand on as well as big studio lights to light the
character that will be in the picture. The camera that I used for taking the pictures in the studio is a 600D camera
that I placed on a tripod. I had four of the LED mounted lights in the studio that I had on for when I was taking the
photographs. The lights were not turned up to full intensity but they were turned up on more than half.
The pictures I had previously took that I would be using for my magazine are all from an IPhone 6 camera. The
lighting would include stage lights from above as well as downstage and sometimes even the sides. The quality of
the lights will depend on which concert/gig I choose to pick and where the concert/gig took place.
For the pictures that I had taken of my friends to go on the double page spread I used Sony Alpha A700. The lighting
for these photos will be natural lighting from the sun. It is not under my control as to how intense it is but I will try
to do them on a day where there are clouds yet the sun is peaking through. For the sake of experimenting and trying
to see how the pictures will turn out, I take some of the pictures using flash on the Sony Alpha A700 camera. No kit
will be required for this. I will not use a tripod since we will be transporting frequently to different locations and I
will always be the one taking the pictures. I also won’t need any additional lights as the natural lighting will be
sufficient.
