The document discusses plans for a music magazine called "PAROXYSM" focused on metal and rock genres. It will feature multiple pictures from concerts on the cover rather than just one main image. The magazine will provide exclusive content about music concerts and festivals, with in-depth reviews, lineups, tour dates, and more to be a primary source for fans wanting information on seeing artists live. The main colors will be dark tones like black, red, and white, following conventions of the genre.
1. My Music Magazine is titled “PAROXYSM”. I chose this name because it stands out from the crowd, attracts the eye
and the meaning; a sudden outburst of anger/rage can link to the genre(s) I’m representing, Metal/Rock.
I shall be following the conventions of my genre to an extent; I’ll be using the same
range of colours, dark and striking colours like blacks, reds, whites, purples, greens
and so on. The layout of my magazine cover will not be following the general
conventions of music magazines. In the majority of Music Magazines that I have both
researched and purchased, there is generally only one picture, the Main Image. There
are strap lines/cover lines describing other articles in the magazine, but in general,
there is only one image of the band, group and artist depicted. I will use several
pictures on the front cover, showing a band perform at the 02 Academy, Brixton. I will
be using several pictures of the same concert to show different bands and variety.
The USP of my Magazine will be that it will have content exclusively about music concerts and festivals, having
reviews, line ups, tour dates and so on. Other magazines do incorporate these kind of features, but my
magazine would be dedicated to this kind of information, with fewer features than a regular Music Magazine,
but far more in-depth. I’m doing this as my goal would be to have my magazine be the go-to source for
detailed information if you want to go and see your favourite band/artist or attend a music festival.
3. For my Music Magazine, I’m choosing the genre Rock/Metal,
with my target audience being predominantly male fans of
this type of music. This type of music magazine often has
large singular images of an artist or band, with the secondary
images affixed to their corresponding articles.
I have taken several pictures at a music concert to obtain the
images for the magazine. The main colours of my magazine
will be striking colours like blacks, reds and whites. This
follows the convention of many magazines of this genre,
using stark and obvious colours.
The name of my Music Magazine is “PAROXYSM”.
4. Mastheads are an integral part to a successful magazine, regardless of its
genre.
In one of the genres most popular magazines (KERRANG!), the Masthead
is both the title and the logo. It is more often than not clipped behind the
Main Image, and it looks akin to shattered glass. This is something very
typical of many magazines, where the title is the logo in one.
Metal Hammer features the former word inside the latter. This is one of
my favourite logos/mastheads as it appeals to me.
5. The Main Image is one of the
most important elements in any
magazine. Its what attracts the
eye and is a large selling point.
The Main Image is often clipped
in front of the Masthead and
behind the cover lines and
secondary images. Main Images
have to strike interest into the
consumer, and they usually
depict someone of importance
and relevance to the magazine,
such as Celebrities, Musicians
and so on.
6. ‣ The layout of Music Magazines still follow the
same concepts as almost every other
magazine. The Main Image is easily visible
and is one of the things we see first, the
Main cover lines are also easily visible, in this
case “Avenged Sevenfold Facing the future
without the Rev…” and is emblazoned upon
the main image.
‣ The main image is that of the band A7X,
clipping in front of the masthead.
‣ Other cover lines are smaller than the main,
accompanied usually with pictures related to
the articles, in this case for ex; “8 page
Donington poster special!”.
‣ This is a decent example of the Left Third,
where content is easily visible where the
magazine may be shelved in a store.
