33. 3. PRECIPITATE FORMING LIQUIDS
• Certain liquid preparation on addition to water forms precipitate
• Ex: Banzoin tincture, Tolu tincture etc
• Insoluble and indiffusible precipitate
Take solids + tragacanth powder

34. Suspension prepared by chemical reaction
In this type of suspension highly diluted solutions are mixed together
so as to form very finely divided precipitates
that can be easily distributed throughout the liquid by shaking
Example
Rx
Sulphorated potash 5.0gm
Zinc sulphate 5.0g
Concentrated camphor water 2.5ml
Water add upto 100.0ml
Make a mixture
Method:
Dissolve the potash Dissolve zinc sulphate
in small quantity of water in small quantity of water
| |
Add potash solution to zinc sulphate solution with constant stirring
|
Add camphor water then volume is make up
35. Packaging and Storage of Suspensions:
1) Should be packaged in wide mouth containers having
adequate air space above the liquid.
2) Should be stored in tight containers protected from: freezing,
excessive heat & light.
3) Label: "Shake Before Use" to ensure uniform distribution of solid
particles and thereby uniform and proper dosage.
4) Stored in room temperature if it is dry powder (25 0C).
Note: It should be stored in the refrigerator after opening or
reconstitute (freezing should be avoided to prevent aggregation)
5) Parental suspension must be packed in amber color ampoule or vial.
36. STABILITY OF SUSPENSION
A stable suspension can be redisperse homogeneously
with moderate shaking.
Can be easily pourable through its shelf life
If suspension is flocculated suspension can be
redisperse easily at anytime with moderate shaking.
If suspension is deflocculated so particles should not
get settle and can be made stable by decreasing
particle size, increasing density and viscosity.
