As a professional, your ability to influence and negotiate both corporately and externally is critical to your business success. These skills are natural to some and more difficult for others. But like many soft skills, influence and negotiation takes time to master and requires continuous learning, implementation, and refinement by anyone who has customers.

“Negotiation is a process of forming an agreement on how two parties should proceed and act in accordance with a potential trading agreement or customer/supplier relationship. (sales-evaluation.com)
“Negotiation is a field of knowledge and endeavor that focuses on gaining the favor of people from whom we want things.” (Cohen, Herb)
In this SlideShare, Richardson discusses how successful sellers are moving beyond the adversarial approach to negotiating. Winning the sale today requires a consultative style. In the end, the relationship between the buyer and seller strengthens winning the sale today and tomorrow.
Negotiation is a dialoguebetween two or more people or parties intended to reach a beneficial outcome over one or more issues where a conflict exists with respect to at least one of these issues. This beneficial outcome can be for all of the parties involved, or just for one or some of them.
Negotiation is a method by which people settle differences. It is a process by which compromise or agreement is reached while avoiding argument and dispute.
In any disagreement, individuals understandably aim to achieve the best possible outcome for their position (or perhaps an organization they represent). However, the principles of fairness, seeking mutual benefit and maintaining a relationship are the keys to a successful outcome.
Specific forms of negotiation are used in many situations: international affairs, the legal system, government, industrial disputes or domestic relationships as examples. However, general negotiation skills can be learned and applied in a wide range of activities. Negotiation skills can be of great benefit in resolving any differences that arise between you and others.

The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.
Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to radically reinvent the way we do business. This study explores how CEOs and top decision makers around the world are responding to the transformative potential of AI.

2. In our regular responsibility as procurement professionals and with a priority target of reducing price in everything we do I looked back
upon our common approach of getting best price.
Majorly we have two ways for arriving at order price (mostly referred as "best price to buy"😉) discussion with our supply partners & they
are " persuasion" & "negotiation“
Persuasion is convincing others to take/agree certain actions/view. On other hand negotiations means to discuss, understand various
views and mutually satisfactory agreement.
I have created below summary of both approaches. There is no right or wrong approach, it mostly depends on skill, competency &
situation of procurement member. Obviously the effectiveness and outcome of both approach vary a lot.
PERSUASION
• EMOTIONAL IN NATURE
• SHORT TERM APPROACH
• CAN GET EGO DRIVEN
• INDIVIDUALLY DRIVEN
• GUT BASIS
• WIN LOOSE
• RESULTING IN BUFFER QUOTING
• SUPPLIER PERCEPTION ORIENTED
• SKILL & DOMINANCE
• ONE WAY
• AGGRESIVE WITH LAW OF AUTHORITY
• TARGET PRICE ORIENTED
NEGOTIATION
• STRATEGIC IN NATURE
• LONG TERM
• PROCESS DRIVEN
• RESPONSIBILITY DRIVEN
• DETAILED WORKING BASIS
• WIN-WIN
• AVOID UNWANTED COST BY COLLABORATION
• PRODUCT COSTING ORIENTED
• EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE ORIENTED
• TWO WAY
• ASSERTIVE WITH LAW OF COMMITMENT WITH CONSISTENCY
• VALUE ORIENTED
3. Negotiation involves persuasion, necessarily, but not all persuasion is negotiation.
Both skills are interrelated & significant for success. FRANKLY you can't negotiate if you don't
know how to persuade, and in many situations persuasion is in the context of negotiation. An
effective persuasive negotiator will usually be more successful.
It's useful for all of us, regardless of the industry we work in, to have good negotiation skills.
There are many different techniques we can use in a negotiation. But we could be far more
successful if we knew what approach to use, based on the skills and abilities that we already
have.
Happy Negotiations.....
