What is Personalized Learning?
“The term personalized learning,
or personalization, refers to a diverse variety of
educational programs, learning experiences,
instructional approaches, and academic-support
strategies that are intended to address the
distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations, or
cultural backgrounds of individual students.”

Start slow!
Stage One is teacher-centered with learner voice and choice.
Stage Two is learner-centered with teacher as guide.
Stage Three is learner-driven where teacher and learner are partners in
learning.

  • 1. Personalized Learning What does it mean and how do I apply it in the K-12 classroom?
  • 2. Objectives The learner will be able to: 1. analyze and describe the broad definition of Personalized Learning. 2. cite and explain examples of Personalized Learning. 3. demonstrate an understanding of Personalized learning by creating a starting point to begin the paradigm shift in their classroom.
  • 3. What is Personalized Learning? “The term personalized learning, or personalization, refers to a diverse variety of educational programs, learning experiences, instructional approaches, and academic-support strategies that are intended to address the distinct learning needs, interests, aspirations, or cultural backgrounds of individual students.” http://edglossary.org/personalized-learning/
  • 5. Why Personalized Learning?  Gives students the chance to build self- advocacy skills.  Gives them a voice in their choice  Students can be an equal partner in their learning experience.
  • 6. What does it look like?

  • 9. Where to begin? 1. Taking one lesson at a time. 2. Adding more time to a specific activity that engages your learners so you do not stop the flow of learning. 3. Asking for your learners' ideas on how they would like to express what they know. 4.   • 10. Where to begin? Start slow! Stage One is teacher-centered with learner voice and choice. Stage Two is learner-centered with teacher as guide.   • 12. Discussion Question Determine your first step in your move towards Personalized Learning. Consider the following in your post:  Why is it important to start small?  What will be your first step? In other words, where will you start? Include justification (i.e. available resources, teaching style, students, etc.)
  • 13. Module Activity Task: Based on your findings, determine the following:  What is your district’s position on Personalized learning?  How will you gain the support of your administrators?  What technology tools do you have to use?  What resources do you have to physically transform your classroom (centers, grouping students, etc.)?
