1. Personal Statement
In my time watching movies I have always been captivated by how they are
made and how all the work that goes into the movies can pay off in the final
product. The most entertaining part of movies in my personal opinion is dialogue
and how it is used to build story and character. This can be seen in TV shows like
'Game Of Thrones' and movies such as 'The Dark Knight' and 'Interstellar'. A big
inspiration for me in film is Christopher Nolan, I am always entertained by how
he utilizes the soundtrack and dialogue to add emphasis on what the characters
are saying and how they act, building up tense moments and invoking thought.
One of my favourite quotes from a Christopher Nolan film is from Batman
Begins: "Its not who we are underneath, but what we do that defines us". This
motivates me as I want the work I create and the effort I put in to define me.
Series and films have always been a big part of my life and influenced me to
make the decisions that lead to who I am today. I love editing in my spare time
and practising new techniques to get better. I enjoy writing stories and making
them into short films, focusing on dialogue between characters to tell a story. I
have experience with cameras and filming as well as shot types. My aspirations
for the future are to learn what I can and hopefully achieve a job role in
production; working on movies and television shows. I have a range of different
skills and understanding of different subjects. These include technical camera
work and storytelling to leadership and organisation. I have always been
interested in behind the scenes, when watching films and television shows I
always liked to look at the thought process behind the scenes and how they're
filmed, how the camera is used to portray a feeling, using shots and angles to tell
a story and create tension in scenes. I know how to utilize these different skills
myself and I am keen to learn as much as I possibly can to improve my skills. I
have good leadership skills, I enjoy listening to other people and hearing what
they have to say, I'm open minded and more than that, willing to learn. I'm easy
to talk to, I have my own opinions and I am critical but only because I want
what's best. I am well organised in all aspects of what I do. I'm good at problem
solving, I find puzzles interesting and challenging, whenever there is something I
find difficult with I am eager to learn and continuously strive to improve to be
the best that I can be. In the past I have made different projects but my main one
was a short horror film, the concept is that the main character locks up his
apartment for the night before going to bed. He sets the alarm on his for phone
the morning. During the night the alarm starts going off every hour, each time a
different word appeared on the screen. Eventually, the alarm words create the
sentence 'Down beneath the bed'. I have completed various projects in my time
at college from creating print work and Advergames to making and writing short
films. From university, I want to be challenged by projects and equipment that I
will be using, furthering my education in the best way possible, it is all about
developing my abilities and moving me forward professionally and personally.
The advantage of working with more sophisticated equipment and being in a
more professional environment would be a privilege. I am believe that at
university I can better myself in the future and secure a job that I will love and
enjoy.
