The student created a horror movie trailer targeting both male and female audiences aged 15+. They researched horror conventions like locations and jump scares to make the trailer feel realistic without graphic gore. Various filming challenges occurred, like scenes being too dark, but the team worked well together to overcome issues. Testing with peers found the unsettling jump scare at the end was effective at eliciting a scare.

1. Evaluation
In my video trailer my target audience where both females and males. The age
rating I set for my trailer was 15+, I set this age because it’s a horror but it doesn’t
show gore scenes to be an 18+. We used horror conventions for example the jump
scare at the end. We also used other movie ideas for example the bloody Mary, we
used this because it’s well known for being scary. We set out to make a horror
trailer as scary as we could. In a couple scenes I played out to be possessed for
example there is a scene of me using a characters blood to create the devil symbol,
we thought making it look like it was his blood rather than just showing the paint
would look more freakish and scary and would fit perfect in a horror trailer because
that’s not something you would normally see.
We all done individual research, we researched horror conventions such as the
locations. We done this so we could get a good idea of where to base our movie
trailer to make is as real as possible. We also researched audience members so we
would know whom we were aiming at and would know what kind of scenes to show
whether to show gore or not. We watched a lot of horror movie trailers to get ideas
and know more about horror trailers. I also researched sub horror genres so I could
have a better understand and a clearer idea of what kind of horror I wanted to
make.
All and all I think everything went well, we were filming or planning everyday, some
days we couldn’t film because of the timing for example one of us was busy at the
period of time we wanted to film. The lighting worked very well on some scenes for
example the scene where the character is drawing the symbol, the room was quite
dark which made it look scarier then it would if it was broad daylight. We all worked
well together as a team we all had what we had to do and done it, if one of us needed
help we would all help each other, this was good because we would get the work
done quicker and better than just one of us doing one thing the other another thing.
The editing process was good but we had a couple problems for example one of the
scenes we shot look good on the camera but once we uploaded it on final cut pro we
realized it was to dark so we had to go and shoot it again. I decided to use intertitles
in my trailer because it attaches the viewer more because they have to read it, once
reading it they have more information on the film for example the release date or
the name of the film. I used effects like night vision in my trailer because it looks
more interesting for the viewer and also because it shows that the scene had been
shot in night and night vision is the only way to see the footage which means if it
wasn’t in night vision you might not see the things happening for example where the
characters goes to the fridge and the letters re-arrange.
Our trailer ended up being a little different to our original idea for example in the
original idea we had a scene where we wanted to shoot in the woods but then later
on we decided we didn’t really want to show that scene so we changed some of the

2. scenes we shot and needed. The trailer would appeal to my target audience because
my target audience is both males and females who would enjoy a horror and my
trailer is a horror for both genders. It would also appeal to my audience because my
target audience is 15 rated trailer and in my trailer there are no gore scenes to make
it a 18 rated. We used different shot types for example close ups or the shot where
the camera is supposed to as a CCTV footage. Something that worked well in my
trailer was the jump scare at the end. That worked well because I edited the sound
to make it lower which sounds weird and scary. When I showed a fellow pupil he got
really scared at that bit and jumped. This was good because jump scares are
supposed to make you jump when you watch it and with that scene I succeeded
what I was trying to achieve.
