Film Reflection On The Film Shottas
Introduction
For this assignment, I decided to reflect on the film Shottas . The film begins in the streets of
Kingston, Jamaica home of Biggs and Wayne, the two main characters. They lived within a very
dangerous and violent town, which drove them into their own violent lifestyle. As young men, how the
movie starts off, they rob the local drug dealers of a gun for a premeditated robbery. The money
allowed for them to purchase visas to come to Miami, Florida. While in the United States, as adults,
the two continue their criminal activities leading them to be deported back to their home in Jamaica.
Mad Max and Wayne, who was deported years before Biggs made his return, had already formed a
striving extortion business. Wayne made it mandatory for all businesses in the Kingston area to pay
money to operate there, or they will be killed. The Jamaica Police did not like Wayne or his Shoota
crew, after the gruesome public murder the police then killed Wayne s brother. Later, the Congressmen
offered to renew Wayne, Biggs, and Mad Max s visa to get them out of the country. Happily back in
Miami, the three men aim to becoming the top drug dealers of the city, by extorting the new top drug
dealer, Teddy. As they raise to power in Miami, they commit several forms of extortion, murder, and
assaults. The film ends in extreme violence leading to the murders of Wayne and Mad Max, in a
shootout with Teddy s crew. Biggs then murders Teddy and his girlfriend, while getting away with all
his money and escapes.
Scanning
This movie has a lot to do with organized crime and how organizations typically build their way up to
it. In the beginning, Biggs and Wayne were just acting as partners in low leveled criminal activities,
however, with age came more discipline and a striving criminal organization named Shottas . The film
focuses on different organized crimes, yet for this paper the focus will be on extortion. Extortion is,
the act of obtaining property of another through threats of future harm. It seems to be a major issue
within the movie, because it is the way the Shottas came to power in the underworld.

Noon as opposed to The Painted Door.
In The Painted Door, the setting is a small farm which supports a man named John and his wife, Ann.
The farm on which they live is rather desolate as they are not in a very close proximity to any of their

being a game of cards with their neighbour, Steven. This scenario in which these two live can be
reflected by the environment around them. The story takes place in the midst of a tremendous blizzard,
the blizzard is so powerful that Ann can t walk outside without being pushed over by the wind. This
snow covered abyss exemplifies how alone the couple is. The darkness and literal isolation from the
rest of the world are clear indicators of this. The dark and cold also represents how Ann views her
relationship with John. She yearns for his affection and his attention, but despite these needs all John
ever does is work. He works himself to the bone so that Ann can be comfortable with her place in life
failing to realize that all she s ever wanted was affection and company, which she eventually finds in
Steven. The Lamp At Noon also makes good use of its setting to help develop the themes as well as
the marriage of this story s couple, Paul and Ellen. The setting of this story is a dried up farm where
no crops grow. The whole farm is shrouded in a cloud of dust and wind. The dust fills the air of Paul
and Ellen s house completely smothering everything with dust. Ellen, coming from a richer household,
urges Paul to leave believing that they have no future here and that the crops will never grow again.
Ellen left a life of comfort and luxury for a dusty, decrepit farm, resulting in feelings of isolation,
anger and hopelessness. However, Paul is determined to stay and live off the land, he has faith that the

Technology is quickly evolving and changing our everyday tasks. The next big thing is RFID
technology. RFID, also known as Radio Frequency Identification Device, is making it easier for the
consumer to pay without swiping their card or without signing. Many already know RFID as pay pass
where you simply wave your credit card over an RFID transmitter to pay for purchases. There are
many benefits and cons to this new technology for the consumer and the producer alike.
RFID has been around longer than the average American realizes. In World War II we start to see this
new technology emerge in the form of a radar. A handful of nations used the radar to detect

World War II to identify aircraft as friend or foe (Stockman, 1948). In the 1950 s 1960 s scientists did
research on how Radio Frequency could be used to distinguish objects remotely. Companies soon
began to create anti theft systems that used Radio Frequency to determine if something had been paid
for or not. This technology is still used today in stores all around the world. As you enter or leave a
store you walk through two gay columns on either side of the door, these are used as the transmitter
and in every item in the store there is a chip. If the chip is not deactivated as the consumer checks out,
then it will send a signal to the transmitter in the gray columns and the transmitter will in turn sound
an alarm. This alerts the store that something has either been stolen or it was not fully scanned
