Permissions : copyright
1. PERMISSIONS FOR FILMING
The legal requirements within the media industry is arguably as important as the
creation stage. This is because without sufficient permission there is a high
chance the industry professionals will shut down your production
from the audience. This subsequently means the production firm will
lose money as they have not profited anything as it was unavailable
to be visible to the audience. For my production, I will be shooting in
the director’s bedroom which therefore means the permission process
is very simple as all I need to do is sign a simple contract with the
homeowner. Moreover, product placement these days in the media is
extremely important especially within the advertising industry. Therefore,
in the bedroom we must hide all product with logos on e.g. hoodies with
logo’s on.
Other locations which I will film in is my school, Lingfield College. This setting is perfect to express
the school scene and helps to display the genre easily. The licensing here is more complex as there
is many processes which we need to take without the owner’s claiming there was insufficient
permission in place prior to filming. I will need to blueprint a contract and make sure it is signed
with an owner of the school. If I made sure it was signed but with a member of
the teaching staff, there is a chance that this may be unacceptable as a claim if
the owners declared evidence of the contract. Within this contract I will explain
my plan and how long I intend to spend using the school as my setting. Further
details in the contract include contact details of the director because if there is
an issue during the whole project they can contact him. We will also need their
contact details in case we are unsure about the terms in the contract.
COPYRIGHT CLEARANCES
The lawful clearances, which need to be sufficiently passed, are necessary for success within the
media industry. Copyright along with other requirements are needed prior to releasing the
production. Copyright is a law which gives the creators of a specific media product security and
exclusive rights to distribute this for a specific amount of time. Therefore, within my awareness video
I will need to make sure I have permission from the company and artist who created the song. I will
use Everglow by Coldplay therefore I will contact the company who aids the legal / releasing process
of the song. I will keep a record of all phone calls and messages exchanged between both parties
therefore if they decide to take us to court we have recorded evidence of the
agreement. As a production company there is a high demand from both the
audience and the government, who regulate the project prior to release. We need
to make sure that we keep away from the legalistic troubles, so we can make
our project successful. Although we are working on a pro-bono production the
copyright law still applies to us. We will make sure all the contracts are signed prior
2. to release, another bonus to this is that the song will be in sublime quality which further enhances
the viewer experience.
