1. Negotiation Brief
Promotion of Creative Media Extended
George Pratt Client Brief | Task 3a
2. Introduction
Each of the members of our team has had extensive experience on many of the popular media
production programs, including Flash, Director, Photoshop and Illustrator. We will have no problem
in creating a professional and aesthetically pleasing promotional video for the BTEC in Creative
Media - Level 3. We will provide a true and proper representation of the course, and what it entails
for the prospective students. We will make sure that our product properly fits the brief: “produce a
promotional video for a department within the college which can then be used on the college website, be produced as a
DVD to send to potential students and also be uploaded to the college YouTube site and Facebook site.” In order to do
this we will get important and relevant information from both the current students and teachers to
give a proper and un-bias overview of how the course functions.
Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College
Established in 1995, Cheadle & Marple Sixth Form College is one of the largest further education
colleges in the country, the college offers a very wide range of courses, including GCSEs, AS and A
Levels, International Baccalaureate, vocational NVQs and BTECs, and Access courses for adults.
Creative Media is one of many BTEC’s which will give students the relevant qualifications to get a
job in the media or even go on to further education.
Negotiating the Brief
The brief will be negotiable between our production group and you the client. This will mean
details with the product may change. I will hold meetings in order for both parties to put forwards
ideas and suggestions which may affect the final product. I understand there will be certain things
which would breach ethical, regulatory and ethical laws (explained below). With our negotiations
certain things about the product may change and amendments will be possible within the confines
of this brief. Due to our circumstances we will not require much in the way of a budgetas all of the
equipment we will need is provided. Similar to the amendments in the product, we would like prior
notice and for it to be within the constraints of this brief before any amendments are submitted
after production has begun.
Copyright
Copyright is a legal concept that is enforced by most governments. It gives the original creator of
the work exclusive rights for a limited time. This generally means that the creator gives the right to
reuse or copy said work. This also applies to the alteration and variation of the work; and also
applies to anyone who would like to perform the work. This is commonly mistaken for only financial
gain from the work; however this isn’t the case as any reuse of the idea would be considered an
infringement of copyright. Everything created for the video will be created and designed by myself
using no third-party resources as this will give me extensive and flexible rights that will give me more
scope for creating graphics without the hindrance of any copyright worries that may slow down, or
change the process. Copyright claims can be enforced for a number of various scenarios that could
arise; this may be for things such as graphics, font and logos. Copyright claims will be filed for
anything using any rendition of the above mediums.

3. Ethical Issues
I am aware that all details regarding this product will be kept confidently between us and you, the
client. As I understand that any leaked information regarding the product or your organizationcould
be used by other people to affect youdetrimentally, as competitors could create a similar product
at a lower or more competitive price point, or perhaps improve or change the product, thus
hindering possible sales of yourself. I will also make sure that there is a mix of race in the video, and
not just focusing on one race.
Representation
The video will be considered “family friendly” meaning that there will be nothing in the video that
would be deemed unsuitable for any age. This will mean no nudity or coarse languagewill be used
throughout the video. This also applies to any of the laws regarding this: Racial discrimination, sexual
discrimination or anything discriminating any religion, gender, race, age or sexuality. I can reassure
you as the client that no law breaking mediums will be used on the video, nor will they be used to
advertise the product they won’t be used garnish or enhance the video. The video will be free and
clean of any advertisement or information referring to the use of any offensive materials. This
means no images, comments, references to drugs and alcohol, to preserve the outstanding
representation of both myself and you. I will not be derogatory or slanderous to any other company,
person or organization through the video or any other product created by myself.
Constraints
Because we will be using current students and ourselves for the information regarding the courses
there will be little in the way of constraints over personnel as we are not hiring out, we will instead
be using people already at the college. We will be using a number of different resourcesin order to
create our promotional video. Things such as images, videos and graphics are things we will be
looking to use. In order to use all of these things we will be required to gain the required legal
documentation from the original creator (explained in copyright).
