The DRC has experienced a long history of political and economic subjugation. The
colonial rule under Belgium was marked with extensive violence and extreme
exploitation of resources. This created a situation in which few Congolese had higher
education or the necessary skills to run a modern government or an effective
economy. Furthermore, the Congo s traditional socioeconomic structures were
disrupted long before the end of the colonial era. After the country finally gained
independence, the state was unable to maintain political or economic stability.
Independence In 1960, the Congo gained independence from Belgium under a
nationalist government headed by Patrice Lumumba and Joseph Kasa Vubu. Their
dedication to Congolese nationalism was not shared nationwide however, and shortly
after the new government was formed, army garrisons in Katanga and South Kasai
rebelled. The resulting conflict, known as the Congo Crisis, would become

The goal of the experiment conducted was to determine the correlation, if any,
between Texas A M student alcohol consumption each week and the number of
classes missed per week. Given the abilities and constraints of descriptive statistics,
choosing to focus on this type of statistic allowed for the student to properly view the
overall information, since there were many interacting values.

In this study, the participants were randomly selected throughout a two week
period (N = 35). The people were all Texas A M students, ranging from freshman to
senior classifications (M = 2.71, SD = 1.07, freshman to senior recorded as 1 to 4).
The continuous predictors for this experiment were the participants ages and how
many alcoholic beverages that they said they consumed per week. The participants
had a mean age of of 20.43 (SD = 1.58). The variables in this study were how many
classes a student missed per week, how many hours they were taking, how likely they
were to miss class after a night of drinking, and how enjoyable class was after a night

Social injustices occur on a daily basis ranging from minor racial slurs to violence
and abuse. It is easy to see why Primo Levi is astonished with the actions that we
humans place on each other. The articles US Inner city Apartheid by Philippe
Bourgois and Difference and Other Infections of the Day by Alisse Waterston show
clearly the prejudice and inequality that take place on a daily basis around the
world. Philippe Bourgois speaks first hand on the injustices that occur in the mainly
Puerto Rican district of East Harlem, New York. Throughout his research on inner
city poverty and social marginalization, he has made friends with several community
natives, a number of them being crack dealers (Bourgois 301). Bourgois is able to take
Waterston focuses on topics such as social marginalization and inequality,
stereotypes (ibid. 180), elements of harm, and social categories/programs (ibid. 187
188). After pages of experiences, remarks, attitudes, and beliefs of the interviewed
women, Waterston explains that the lengthy stories of the various women in the
article show that it is difficult to make and live by social categories (ibid. 187)
because these women all had different thoughts and experiences. Both of the articles
are analytical and use interviews with the people being researched; and both articles
have similar themes of drugs, sex, oppression, hate, disease, and social
marginalization. Both writers also speak on avoiding target groups stereotypes and
generalities (Waterston 179), and the blaming of victims that often occurs with other

similarities between the two articles. Bourgois tends to use phrases and terms to

serial data protocol used by microcontrollers to enable communication between one
or more peripheral devices that are all of short distances to one another.

currently stagnating. From week to week we may see a rise in one indicator while
there is a fall in another indicator, but none of the rises or falls are drastic enough to

not near as strong as it was before the 2008 2009 recession, arguably one of the
biggest economic crises of the past decade, there has been much growth and strength
throughout the past few years with this year being the first year in which the
economy is in somewhat of a holding pattern. I believe, that even with the little
growth and movement of the United States economy over the past year, it is still
perhaps one of the strongest economies in the world at the moment.
The rise and fall of GDP over a specific period of time is, in many cases, the number
one indicator for how the economy is doing. Being the output of final goods and
services, GDP works well with consumer confidence and provides a good idea as to
the general health of the economy. By looking at Figure 1, we can see that GDP
rose steeply after the 20008 2009 recession and has continued to remain strong with
relatively little movement since 2010. In the most recent quarters, 2014 and 2015,
GDP has declined a little, but the decline is in no way too drastic nor did it have any

hours and hours on end practicing and preparing for something whether that be a

The last twelve months were, no doubt, the hardest time of Sammy s life.
It all began when his mother, Caroline, was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. At
the time, Sammy didn t fully understand the dire situation they were in. He couldn t
comprehend why his mother was away the majority of the time or why his father
started drinking liquid from glass bottles constantly. Soon enough, it hit him. He
