People analytics helps businesses make evidence-based talent decisions for all phases of the employee lifecycle. The field is new and everyone is getting into it: approximately 5,000 companies have people analytics departments, with more than 50% having been created in the past five years. In this session, Lorenzo will share LinkedIn’s journey with building their own people analytics function, including the evolution of their infrastructure and technology, organization design, and their leapfrog strategy of focusing on delivering business value while building out a data infrastructure. Attendees will learn the values of people analytics to business problems, how to build out a people analytics team and a maturity model for the team.

We have seen the emergence of the Human Age, where talent is the new differentiator. Yet organizations around the world struggle to find the talent they need. This is especially problematic, because 75 million Baby Boomers will retire within the next 10 to 15 years. Between now and then, there will be a lot of jobs to fill, and if finding great talent is difficult now, organizations are going to have to up their recruiting game, or suffer the consequences of being understaffed.

The robots are near. But they are at a disadvantage when it comes to interpersonal sensitivity. As long as there are humans involved in Talent Acquisition, it remains a highly relationship-driven process. Whether it be candidates themselves, hiring managers, hiring teams, vendor partners or senior leadership, you need to know how each of these groups is thinking about how you are engaging with them, how to earn their trust, and how to get what you need from each relationship you create.
This presentation examines the evolving recruiting relationship ecosystem, encourages you to identify your own blind spots, and leaves you with actionable steps to create effective collaboration across key stakeholder groups. In this discussion you will:
• Better understand the evolving recruiting relationship ecosystem
• Discover your own relationship blind spots
• Learn how to take action to more effectively collaborate with various recruiting stakeholder groups

Like the tale of the shoemaker’s son, Nielsen only began to employ workforce analytics in late 2014. After a 3 percent increase in attrition in 2015, we calculated that we could avoid $5M for every point of attrition we reduced. With only a dedicated People Analytics leader, could we figure out why people were leaving and engage leaders to do something about it?
The solution: engage a passionate, diverse group of people and tell a story with your data that people can relate to, all while retaining your most at-risk associates.
The field of analytics, and in particular, People Analytics, is exploding. Who knew that one day HR + Math = Game Changer?? We'll share our journey with you, some lessons we've learned along the way, how to get started if you haven't, and what's next for Nielsen People Analytics.

Many people working in software development spend their careers without seeing what good looks like. Our history is littered with inefficient processes creating poor quality output, too late to capitalise on the expected business value. How have we got to this state? How do we get past it? What does good really look like?
Continuous Delivery changes the economics of software development, find out how and why.
AMES 2016 - The Human Side of AnalyticsStephen Tracy
Last year the global analytics industry was estimated to be worth $125 billion in hardware, software and services revenue. Consequently the market has been flooded with more tools, platforms and tech than you can shake a calculator at. When it comes to data, the core challenge many businesses face today seems to have less to do with analytics technology and infrastructure and more to do with finding the right people, talent and skills. In this presentation Stephen will share 10 lessons for building a successful analytics program through a ‘people-first’ strategy.
This presentation was developed for UBC Engineering Physics project lab students.
What's new in this version is I introduce myself via a Pecha Kucha video.
I first ask the question. "What is Entrepreneurship?"
I follow-up with my favorite definition of a business.
Then I address the questions:
* What is the journey like?
* What is the process?
* How do I learn about customers?
* How do I keep score?
I focus on 5 Points — Purpose, You, Process, Customers, and Scorecard.
Purpose » Drucker’s Purpose of Business,
You » Martin’s Knowledge Funnel + Soft-Skills,
Process » Blank’s Customer Development,
Customers » Moore’s Crossing the Chasm + Product/Service Journey Sketch,
Scorecard » Osterwalder’s Business Model Canvas.

People Analytics: State of the Market - Top Ten ListJosh Bersin
What are the "Top Ten" trends in People Analytics? This presentation reviews the research and discusses how you should prepare for this exciting and fast growing but emerging market.
Automation is coming. Make no mistake, automation is a survival imperative for the business. However, automation is a difficult topic for IT and others who see automation as a threat to their job.
We’ll discuss the benefits of automation for the business, Application Development, Operations, and other stake holders. Next, we’ll explore ways to win hearts and minds of those who are might initially be against automation. Finally, we’ll discuss ways to evaluate how to identify areas to automate and effective ways to measure results.
This talk is meant to provide concrete and empirically successful examples of companies who have adopted automation and benefited the company, IT professionals, and all other stakeholders.
Being an agent of change for the better in your company is difficult. With these examples you should be better prepared to accelerate your company’s effectiveness and improve the quality of life of employees.
Multipying the power of your agile team with DesignPhil Barrett
The presentation covers
Why software teams need design (with a nice little case study)
How good designers help your team work better (some things good designers do)
How to navigate the change (a few ways to think about changing your team's culture and process to make design successful and value-adding)

Contextualizing, analyzing, and quantifying each
toolkit, gave us a new and deeper understanding of
each.
Which also posed the question, are designers too
intimidated to write for other designers?
Or were these toolkits written in order to expand the

Recently we have observed the rise of open-source Large Language Models (LLMs) that are community-driven or developed by the AI market leaders, such as Meta (Llama3), Databricks (DBRX) and Snowflake (Arctic). On the other hand, there is a growth in interest in specialized, carefully fine-tuned yet relatively small models that can efficiently assist programmers in day-to-day tasks. Finally, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) architectures have gained a lot of traction as the preferred approach for LLMs context and prompt augmentation for building conversational SQL data copilots, code copilots and chatbots.
In this presentation, we will show how we built upon these three concepts a robust Data Copilot that can help to democratize access to company data assets and boost performance of everyone working with data platforms.
Why do we need yet another (open-source ) Copilot?
How can we build one?

Levelwise PageRank with Loop-Based Dead End Handling Strategy : SHORT REPORT ...Subhajit Sahu
Abstract — Levelwise PageRank is an alternative method of PageRank computation which decomposes the input graph into a directed acyclic block-graph of strongly connected components, and processes them in topological order, one level at a time. This enables calculation for ranks in a distributed fashion without per-iteration communication, unlike the standard method where all vertices are processed in each iteration. It however comes with a precondition of the absence of dead ends in the input graph. Here, the native non-distributed performance of Levelwise PageRank was compared against Monolithic PageRank on a CPU as well as a GPU. To ensure a fair comparison, Monolithic PageRank was also performed on a graph where vertices were split by components. Results indicate that Levelwise PageRank is about as fast as Monolithic PageRank on the CPU, but quite a bit slower on the GPU. Slowdown on the GPU is likely caused by a large submission of small workloads, and expected to be non-issue when the computation is performed on massive graphs.
