played a significant role in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Pennies
for Patients fundraising drive.
3. Pennies for Patients Targets Leukemia
and Lymphoma
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is the world's largest volunteer-driven
organization devoted to curing lymphoma and leukemia. Almost 30,000
schools and more than 14 million students nationwide have joined the
effort, which provides money for research into these blood cancers. The
program has generated more than $261 million since its beginning in 1994.
4. Pennies for Patients Targets Leukemia
and Lymphoma
During a three-week period in February or March, students at all grade
levels ask for contributions of pennies or other coins. The society provides
lesson plans that emphasize service learning and character formation for
participants. It also gives out instructional videos and collection boxes for
individuals and classes. The society also offers resources for school-wide
assemblies.
5. Pennies for Patients Targets Leukemia
and Lymphoma
The top-performing schools in each area win sports equipment and
electronics. At individual schools, the class that brings in the most funds
enjoys a pizza party.
