The part in question, 3079, is used in two different subassemblies: no. 435, which is used in the Gemini TV stand, and no. 257, which is used in the Saturn microwave stand. One of part 3079 is used in each subassembly, and one of each subassembly is used in each of the final products.
Part 3079 may be produced in any quantity since the lathe that makes it is not used for anything else. However, both of the subassemblies are produced using the same equipment. To minimize change over time, Space Age has decided that these subassemblies should be made in minimum quantities of 1,000 at a time, although there is no problem with capacity on the equipment that makes them. The purpose of this study is to develop a plan for reducing lead-times and increasing profit of Centre bolt product by using value stream mapping. The Centre bolt product manufacturer is inefficient because it produces products in large batch quantities and has poor product flow as operations being departmentalized and departments are very far away from each other due to this increase in lead-times could cause a loss in the market share to its competitors. The Centre bolt product manufacturer must reduce its lead-times in order to remain competitive and continue its growth by providing quality products in a timely manner. A study will be carried out using value stream mapping to determine areas of potential improvement on the plant floor. A current state map will be developed and analyzed the areas that have potential for improvement. A future state map will then be created to suggest ways to reduce lead-times and increase profit. The map will include lean manufacturing methods to reduce wastes in the system; increasing profit and reducing lead-times. Current state and future state of manufacturing of a firm are compared and witnessed: 50 percent reduction in lead time, 4 percent reduction in processing time, 58.5 percent reduction in WIP and 22 percent reduction in manpower required to perform same amount of work.

Starting over requires us to do at least two things: re-learn the principles and practices, and look for examples on how others recovered. I believe that understanding the pull system, the WIP limits, and the difference between manufacturing and software development will give us enough to recover faster from failures and accelerate the learning process. Moreover, I assume that I did more wrong than right during my journey in Kanban land, and it cost me a lot. I believe that if I share these stories with you, it will save you a great deal of trouble for yourself, and if not, at least you'll have some ideas on how to recover.

The team of ten members was tasked with designing a plant to manufacture and assemble hair dryers for use in regional peripheral warehouses, shopping malls, and shops. This senior design project is called SafeStride. It is designed and made for people who do not have the ability to walk or need help walking. Many people around the world, and especially in the United States, who do not have the ability to walk without using cranes and crutches. However , there are many who use these tools incorrectly, therefore causing more harm on themselves rather than heeling themselves. So SDSU Electrical Engineering seniors came up with an idea of SafeStride in an effort to improve walking aids. The seniors came up with an idea of a cane that assists better in walking than the crutches and canes we see today. With the development of software technology and programming, students were able to make this cane send and receives data from a program, which then used by therapists and medical professionals to check if the cane is used appropriately by the person or not.
Devices:
There are many devices used in this project. For instance, one device is the Bluetooth RN42 chip. This device is coordinated to send information to a gadget where experts play out their investigation. More so, a lithium-ion battery that has energy which controls the gadgets found in the stick. At the base of the stick, there is a cell that checks the weight applied on the stick by the client. Also, there is a 18560 battery which is utilized to control up the stick's hardware through the charging of the battery. To get this stick working, sensors were used to measure metrics and use signals to send it to microcontrollers, and after they are sent by wireless to the computer.
Cost:
The project costed the students $643.43, $79.94 for the power components, $59.85 for the IMU, $120.54 for the Bluetooth Module, $125.70 for other components, and $151.85 for the materials of the cane.

Problem-solving and ongoing procedure enhancements are key elements to
obtaining quality improvement in business operations. Many process and machine
improvement strategies have been suggested and implemented in organizations, where
define, measure, analysis, improve and control is mostly applied. Here we aimed at
improving the machine productivity of assembly line in a cotton ginning assembly line
in an Industry. The tool which is used to improve the productivity of assembly line are
time study and method study. Based on this, the study provides data of time required
for each assembly processes, sequence of each operations and flow of the product in
assembly line.
The present study has been done at an industry, a leading manufacturer of cotton
ginning machine. The aim of the study is to identify the various problems on the
assembly line which causes unnecessary delay in the operations. The problem is found
in the assembly line and is solved by work study techniques and it is found that cycle
time of bottle neck operation was reduced by 33.05% per trolley

Officer Leila immediately walked upstairs and found a gun at the tops of the stairs. She went to confiscate the gun and while doing so noticed a note attached to the gun with an address on it. Later that afternoon police officers went to the address of the house listed on the note of the gun. Jewelry was found at this address and collected by the police officers. The address was a known address for stolen jewelry to be pawned. - 15. Space Age Furniture Company The Space Age Furniture Company manufactures tables and cabi nets to hold microwave ovens and portable televisions. These pr oducts aremade in various sizes and with various features, but al l follow basically the same production and assembly operations. However, two of theseproducts— the Saturn microwave stand and the Gemini TV stand— have a part (no. 3079) that requires machining on a special lathe used onlyfor making that part. At present the machine is run by Ed Szewczak, a machinist who also operates other machines in Space Age's shop. Onceset up and started, the lathe can run near ly unattended. However, the machinist must be present (even if not actually attending the machine)any time one of the machines , including the lathe, is in operation. At present, Ed works a reg ular 40- hour week. However, due to the workloadfor producing part 307 9, it has been necessary to schedule frequent overtime for him i n order to finish the necessary parts on time. Coral Snodgrass, operations manager for Space Age, has just he ard from Ed's foremen that Ed is becoming unhappy about so m uch overtime.As Coral knows, Ed has been with the company a l ong time and is an excellent, reliable employee. Skilled machini sts with Ed's experience andemployment record are extremely di fficult to find. Coral wonders what can be done to alleviate this problem. Recently, Space Age began using an MRP system that has helpe d reduce inventories greatly and improve on- time deliveries. In fact, Space Agecarries no finished- goods inventory. Instead, everything in the master schedule is b eing produced for customer orders, so all products areshipped al most immediately. Previously Space Age had estimated that it c ost $1.25 per week to store each Gemini and $1.50 per week to s toreeach Saturn that wasn't shipped immediately. The master sc hedule for producing these two items for the next six weeks is s hown below.

One of part 3079 is used in each subassembly, and one of each subassembly is used in each of the final products. Part 3079 may be produced in any quantity since the lathe that makes it is not used for anything else. However, both of the sub assemblies areproduced using the same equipment. To minimize change over time, Space Age has decided that these subassembl ies should be made inminimum quantities of 1,000 at a time, alt hough there is no problem with capacity on the equipment that makes them. In fact, an order for1,000 of subassembly 435 is du e to be received in week 1, as is an order for 1,000 of subassem
- 17. bly 257. Lead time for both these subassembliesis one week, an d no inventory is expected to be on hand for either part at the be ginning of week 1. There is not any on- hand inventory of part3079, and there are no orders in process. Ed Szewczak earns $22 per hour and gets a 50% premium for an y overtime work. Whenever part 3079 is made, there is no set- up time, butprocessing takes 0.03 hour per unit. It costs $0.25 p er week to hold any of these parts over from one week to the ne xt. The cost of holdingeach subassembly in inventory is $0.75 p er unit per week.
