1. WELLNESS PEER MENTOR JOBDESCRIPTION
Start Date: August31,2016 for 28 weeks
Rate of Pay: $15/hour
Hours: 3 – 5 hours/week
Number of Positions: 3-5 positions
Job Summary: Peer mentors will be ambassadors for mental health and wellness on campus.
They will be responsible for facilitating mental health/mindfulness-based workshops, fostering
a sense of mental health awareness on campus, creating opportunities for social connection
between students, and providing general information about campus resources. Additional
duties will include taking initiative to creatively promote and advertise the peer mentor
program and workshops, especially through participating in campus events.
General Job Duties May Include:
Helping Students
One-on-one peer mentoring
Designing and leading wellness and mindfulness workshops
Helping Your Peer Mentor Team
Participate in regular team meetings and trainings
Responding to emails and phone messages in a timely manner
Helping with Research/Feedback
Provide input to the team on relevant social networking strategies, peer-to-peer
communication, and effective recruitment for workshop participation
Evaluate the effectiveness of the peer mentor program on an ongoing basis and provide
suggestions for improvement
Helping with Promoting and Advertising
Create ways to effectively promote resources, services and special events
Collaborate with staff from other areas of the college to coordinate events
Write articles or information pages to be used in a variety of ways
Participate in campus activities, especially those related to new student orientation and
supportive transitioning (i.e. Orientation Day, Mental Health Week)
Skills and Requirements:
A student enrolled at Georgian College with no co-op placement during Fall or Winter
Semester.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Experience with mental health and knowledge of wellness strategies including mindfulness
Responsible, well organized and dependable
Strong interest in assisting fellow students
Proficiency with basic computer programs and troubleshooting
2. Comfortable asking for assistance and/or clarification when needed
Must be available from end of August to April 2017.
