AMPK aids in fatty acid oxidation and helps prevent insulin resistance. Activated by exercise, AMPK facilitates stronger heart muscles and prevents cardiac hypertrophy. The proposal hypothesizes that increased AMPK levels through prolonged exercise will increase mitochondrial density in type 1 muscle fibers and heart cells, examining samples before and after a 30-day exercise program to measure changes in AMPK levels.
