Proper verbal de-escalation and ensuring a safe environment are crucial to positive crisis intervention.

This document discusses differentiating between stress, acute stress disorder, crisis, trauma, and PTSD. It provides definitions and examples of each. Stress is defined as any stimulus that causes an observable individual reaction, and can have positive or negative outcomes. Acute stress disorder involves symptoms within 1 month of a traumatic event. Crisis refers to an acute disruption when usual coping mechanisms fail. Trauma is a physical or emotional wound caused by violence or accident. Setting & Maintaining Professional Boundaries Alex Clapson
The ability to set and maintain professional boundaries is critical to an effective, sustainable career in social work. Social workers make judgments regarding boundaries on a daily basis, and these decisions affect not only their own well-being but also that of their clients, colleagues, and loved ones.
It is not surprising, then, that the topic of boundaries pervades social work education from introductory curricula through advanced professional development workshops.
This document provides an overview of motivational interviewing (MI) for CEAPs (employee assistance professionals). It discusses key concepts in MI including the stages of change, assessing readiness and importance of change using rulers, developing a change plan, and strategies like reflective listening. The core of MI involves eliciting and strengthening a person's own motivation for change by exploring and resolving ambivalence in a collaborative, non-confrontational way. The document emphasizes MI is a communication method and way of relating to clients, not just a set of techniques.

Introduction and history of mental illnesscandyvdv
Early explanations of mental illness involved possession by demons or evil spirits. People with mental illnesses were often tortured to drive out demons. By the 18th century, madness began to be seen as an illness rather than demonic possession, leading thousands to be released from torture to asylums with medical treatment. Today, the medical model and influence of psychology both contribute to understanding and treating mental disorders, which are classified according to standardized diagnostic criteria.
