[Workshop] Organization Experience - A framework for Adaptive CareersMarco Calzolari
BetterSoftware Conference, Florence (Italy) 2016
Our career as manager and kwoledge workers should be considered an evolutionary process, that requires constant feedback in order to develop talent and skills, while fits in a increasingly liquid company culture. We all need to reshape conversations and visualization about work, job roles, purposes and performance. Companies should consider and co-design the Employee Experience as well as they work on Customer and User Experience. Great UX design arises only by a great experience of work and collaboration.

Do you make the job description or does the job description make you? Do you limit the display of your talent based on your job description?
Personal branding is a powerful concept first introduced several years ago by management guru, Tom Peters. It suggests that each person has the opportunity to make an individual and unique impact within their organization via a personal brand.
In the world of HR, this premise could not be more compelling. Due to ever increasing professional
challenges, HR professionals need to operate from a more individually empowered place -- from intentional branding.
Intentional branding can uniquely position each HR professional to be more effective in executing
their responsibilities and is a critical resource to influence strategic partners and nurture business partner confidence.
Overall, a powerful, intentional personal brand can strategically touch every level of an organization creating a positive, constructive ripple effect! A powerful position coupled with great personal power can greatly impact a company's value and profitability! This is the call of the hour for every HR professional!

More and more employees are working remotely instead of commuting to a main office. Here are some strategies for effectively managing and developing your remote workforce.
What are all the things you think about and take care of when you invite people for a little party? Lots of decisions and many invisible actions are happening beforehand. In the English language there is a nice word that captures this all: hosting. But you cannot only host parties, also conversations and collective learning processes benefit from good hosting. And it is not the same as ‘facilitating the meeting’. Can you image you would facilitate a dinner with friends or family? Hosting is different, it goes deeper and is beyond facilitation. The term Art of Hosting and Harvesting Conversations That Matter contains many elements: the convening, inviting, holding and guiding the conversations. This hosting practice and methodology is also known as the art of participatory leadership. In participatory leadership we want, just as in a successful party, that everyone can join in, feels safe and OK. Art of Hosting is crucial in the future of work, in a world where we no longer separate thinking from doing, in a world where everyone’s voice matters. Whether it is in your community, an Agile transformation or teams doing BAU.
Agile HR: Transforming a Human Resources Team Using ScrumSeedbox
At Seedbox Technologies, we use agile development and scrum in all our engineering teams and have the vision of becoming a fully agile company one day. To support this vision, some of our non-engineering teams are starting to adopt and adapt agile principles that will help them deliver more value for our customers, partners, and team members. Here is a kickoff presentation we created to start this transformation with one of our HR teams, responsible for driving our company culture projects. We hope this can inspire other technology (and non-tech) companies to make a similar change in their organizations.

Designing Adaptive Careers - The Talent Canvas
As presented at Better Sotware 2015 in Florence
Why a career should not be considered an evolutionary process, that requires constant feedback in order to develop talent and skills, while fits in a even more liquid company culture?
HR Management's traditional approach is proving increasingly inadequate to the shifting environment of modern companies. HR departments are based on practices that fails to adapt to our ever-changing scenario. Professionals and companies both need to be able to reinvent themselves...
The Adaptive Career is a set of conversation design tools aiming to enpower our approach to career development. It will be useful to anyone involved in HR management and team leading, but also small teams and entrepreneurs. It's focused on transparency and motivation, and it has been designed to gain mutual support and commitments about evolutionary careers.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

27. Prioritize.
There’s opportunity cost at every step. Better
come to terms with limitations early than be
disappointed!
It’s important to chose specific attributes
where you excel, and focus on being the best
at specifically those.

32. Core. Vertical First.
We try to grow our most important competencies,
and involve them full time, strongly bound.
This achieves:
Diversity . Depth . Richness . Quantity
MASS
33. Horizontal. Second.
We try to minimize cost, especially of complexity by creating
loosely bound ad hoc teams to run fragmented tasks across a
larger landscape.
Sometimes the teams are just the founders, working harder,
contributing bonus value to the company, playing multiple
roles in addition to main jobs.
This achieves:
More Uniform Quality . Simplicity . Reliability .
Affordability . Speed . Networking . Growth
VELOCITY
37. Natural Growth. Some of our core members have
been the early adopters, converted into team
members after consistent participation.
Higher Motivation . Larger Goals . Diverse Scope.
More Talent
38. Hiring & Recruiting
Undershoot. It’s better to undershoot and hire less
extra hand, hire a vendor than to worry about
additional payment, management and social
overhead of “mid levels.”
Don’t add redundancy.
Take advantage of SAAS Services
and “on-demand software”
57. Motivation & Incentive. Startups such as ours
usually begin with very low capital. Often it rolls
quite well before the need occurs to gather
investments.
During this time, the founders typically work with
very small number of team members who are
integral to the foundation and momentum needed
to execute your vision.
58. MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM
INSPIRE.
Pull your team, not push. If you are a chef
starting up a kitchen, you better be good. You need
to continue to strive to excel.
What have you done lately, to inspire *your* team?
59. MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM
LEARN.BOND.
You are a startup. Not a multinational. It’s okay (and
entirely feasible) to find out strengths and
weaknesses on and off of work of your core team.
Anticipating, supporting s&w of your teammates will
allow them to build trust, and share your vision.
60. MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM
MANAGE CONFLICT
There will be disagreements, clash of authority and
difficulty in decision making. You don’t have a Board
of Investors to make one for you.
Identify and clarify one thing most important to you
very early. Trust your team, and don’t fight
everything; it’s good to let go.
62. MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM
REWARD
Each member has is in it for a different reason. The
revenue flow isn’t solid, so whether it’s for
experience, for the thrills or dreams, they are there
to meet their own goals.
Understand what they are. Return Value the best
way possible.
64. MOTIVATING YOUR TEAM
FLEXIBILITY
Startups are all about change. Many of the leading
companies in the world set out to make completely
different products than they sell today.
Teams can change too, be open and flexible on
matters of preference. Show respect and gratitude
when due.
68. Continuous Growth. If momentum is the most
important thing for a startup, then growth is
essential in driving it.
Teams need to continuously grow in both
