Material handling systems involve the movement, storage, protection and control of materials throughout the manufacturing and distribution process. There are two main types of material handling systems: fixed track systems which use a single path for one-way movement and are suited to industries like manufacturing and warehousing; and mobile track systems which allow flexible movement and direction changes depending on conditions and are also applied in manufacturing, construction, and warehousing. Proper material handling is important for managers to efficiently handle material flow, manufacturing processes, and facility layouts.
