The Academy conducts industrial PhD projects, workshops, conferences, study tours, and pilot programs. It also performs surveys and analyzes best practices.
Research has identified critical global leadership competencies including vision/strategic thinking, cross-cultural interaction skills, flexibility, and managing virtual teams.

Knowledge Management for Collection Development: Transforming Institutional ...

In an organization with a decentralized collection development structure, it can be difficult for selectors to find correct and/or detailed information at the point of need when engaging in collection development. Institutional knowledge that is possessed by individuals who have worked at the library for many years is not always easily shared with others due to the lack of an effective conduit. Simply knowing what is happening and what has happened with purchases, licensing, vendor negotiations, budget planning, and policy creation can be a challenge for those who have not been directly involved. This presentation will detail the presenter's experience in a new collections role at Penn State Libraries and her work gathering the information that exists on shared drives, in file cabinets, dark corners of the intranet, and in the brains of faculty and staff that have worked at the library for many years and making it available to selectors in a meaningful way. The presentation will discuss projects such as compiling information about annual ebook packages and ejournal backfiles as well as Penn State’s management of theses and dissertations. How those projects were identified and prioritized as well as the process for compiling that information and making it available will also be discussed. The presentation will conclude with a long-term plan for storing and presenting this kind of information so that knowledge continues to be shared across Penn State Libraries. Many libraries face challenges with regard to capturing institutional knowledge, and collection development is an area within libraries where historical information needs to be referenced frequently. This presentation will offer attendees some ideas for how to approach this issue as well as the benefit of the successes and failures the presenter experienced while attempting to address this challenge.

Human commerce utilizes the most significant share of natural resources and produces the largest aggregate impact on the earth’s environment. As a consequence of modern employment and work cultures, commerce, corporations as opposed to governments, also construct much of the social contract and social organizational forms in developed societies. Sustainable development movements to conserve resources and to democratize or enhance organizational practices have called for culture change or transformation. However, these approaches have not yielded results that will significantly enhance human flourishing in the face of globalized commerce, which has no common governance system. We suggest that the goals of alignment toward sustainable development or so-called corporate sustainability are misguided and systemically depreciative, as they purport to sustain activities that foreseeably accelerate ecological degradation. We propose a modeling practice for stakeholder design of strongly sustainable enterprises for the intention of whole system flourishing across living ecosystems and organized social systems. This systemic design approach to business transformation functions at the level of the business model. We claim that business model design affords the highest leverage across all modes of organizing for collective cultural adoption ecosystemic practices.

Change Leadership in South East Asian Academic Libraries
How do academic libraries approach, plan, implement, and evaluate change? What are the reasons and drivers for change? What kind of planning takes place to roll out change? What types of communication with stakeholders are undertaken regarding change? What is the role of mentoring and coaching in change process? What kind of leadership is needed for ‘change’ initiatives? What are some of the challenges academic libraries face to plan and execute change?
Many academic libraries have been reasonably successful in adapting themselves to the fast changing digital world since the beginning of the Internet, but also since the beginning of increased accountability and declining budgets in higher education institutions in a number of countries, since the early 90s. They have gone through a great deal of change in the last twenty years or so. Some are continuing to change and adapt at greater rate than others. Some libraries introduce ‘change’ to their services, operations, initiatives much more than others. Technology and space renovations have been two of the most significant catalysts to facilitate change in many cases in addition to the financial and organisational directives of the parent organisation.
Agile management and change management are closely related. Libraries can benefit from applying agile management strategies to implement change leadership.
This paper uses Singapore Management University Library as a case study in implementing agile management and also present the results of a survey amongst academic library leaders in South East Asia regarding ‘change’ in their libraries as well as causes, effects and outcomes of change initiatives, projects, activities and future plans.

Change Leadership in South East Asian Academic Libraries
How do academic libraries approach, plan, implement, and evaluate change? What are the reasons and drivers for change? What kind of planning takes place to roll out change? What types of communication with stakeholders are undertaken regarding change? What is the role of mentoring and coaching in change process? What kind of leadership is needed for ‘change’ initiatives? What are some of the challenges academic libraries face to plan and execute change?
Many academic libraries have been reasonably successful in adapting themselves to the fast changing digital world since the beginning of the Internet, but also since the beginning of increased accountability and declining budgets in higher education institutions in a number of countries, since the early 90s. They have gone through a great deal of change in the last twenty years or so. Some are continuing to change and adapt at greater rate than others. Some libraries introduce ‘change’ to their services, operations, initiatives much more than others. Technology and space renovations have been two of the most significant catalysts to facilitate change in many cases in addition to the financial and organisational directives of the parent organisation.
Agile management and change management are closely related. Libraries can benefit from applying agile management strategies to implement change leadership.
This paper uses Singapore Management University Library as a case study in implementing agile management and also present the results of a survey amongst academic library leaders in South East Asia regarding ‘change’ in their libraries as well as causes, effects and outcomes of change initiatives, projects, activities and future plans.

The BYOD4L team is a distributed team of 12 learning technologists, developers, lecturers, researchers and an artist from 9 institutions across the UK and Australia. They have over 100 combined years of experience in technology enhanced learning. Their goal is to create open learning opportunities using social media and mobile devices. In 2013/14, they ran the first iteration of an open online course called BYOD4L that allowed educators and students to learn and develop skills around using smart devices for learning in a self-regulated manner. The primary drivers of these protests are poor university administration, lack of transparency, and inadequate communication between officials and students. This study examines the profound emotional, psychological, and professional impacts on students engaged in pro-Palestine protests, focusing on Generation Z's (Gen-Z) activism dynamics. This paper explores the significant sacrifices made by these students and even the professors supporting the pro-Palestine movement, with a focus on recent global movements. Through an in-depth analysis of printed and electronic media, the study examines the impacts of these sacrifices on the academic and personal lives of those involved. The paper highlights examples from various universities, demonstrating student activism's long-term and short-term effects, including disciplinary actions, social backlash, and career implications. The researchers also explore the broader implications of student sacrifices. The findings reveal that these sacrifices are driven by a profound commitment to justice and human rights, and are influenced by the increasing availability of information, peer interactions, and personal convictions. The study also discusses the broader implications of this activism, comparing it to historical precedents and assessing its potential to influence policy and public opinion. The emotional and psychological toll on student activists is significant, but their sense of purpose and community support mitigates some of these challenges. However, the researchers call for acknowledging the broader Impact of these sacrifices on the future global movement of FreePalestine.

There are 4 phases of wound healing: hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling. This document also describes the mechanism of wound healing. Factors that affect healing include infection, uncontrolled diabetes, poor nutrition, age, anemia, the presence of foreign bodies, etc.
