PASSIVE VOICE: DIRECT AND INDIRECT OBJECTS
1. USE: the PASSIVE is used when the speaker wants to attatch more
importance to the OBJECT than to the SUBJECT.
2. VERBS with two objects: read these sentences

2. A book was lent to me by a friend.
2. IMPERSONAL PASSIVE : RECEIVED INFORMATION
When talking about information that has been received, but we don’t
know who provided the information or the person who provided is
not important, we often use the following verbs:
SAID, REPORTED, BELIEVED, THOUGHT, KNOWN, UNDERSTOOD
Using the following patterns:
SENTENCE:

PASSIVE:
It is said that this is a dangerous area.
1.IT + IS/WAS/HAS BEEN+ SAID //THAT CLAUSE + subject + active verb
Passive sentence Subordinate sentence
PASSIVE VOICE: RECEIVED INFORMATION
II.
SENTENCE:
