Every word used in a sentence
occupies a position and fulfils a
function.
WORDS ARE DIVIDED INTO
DIFFERENT KINDS OR CLASSES
,ACCORDING TOTHEIR USE; THAT
IS,ACCORDING TO WORK THEY DO
IN A SENTENCE.
There are eight parts of speech:-
1. NOUN
2. PRONOUN
3. ADJECTIVE
4. VERB
5. ADVERB
6. PREPOSITION
7. CONJUNCTION
8. INTERJECTION

A noun is used to name people, places,
objects or ideas.
Example:
o Adnan is an intelligent young man.
(Nouns: Adnan, Man)
o Paris is the capital of France.
(Nouns: Paris, Capital, France)
o It is a beautiful toy.
(Nouns: Toy)
A pronoun is used in place of a noun.
Examples:He,She,it,I, We,They, You,
I have built a house.
(pronoun: I)
She gave me a nice gift.
(Pronoun: She, Me)
SUBJECTIVE POSSESSIVE OBJECTIVE REFLEXIVE
HE HIS HIM HIMSELF
SHE HER HER HERSELF

An adjective is used to describe a
noun and pronoun.
Examples:
Ali is a good boy.
(Adjectiv.
She is a pretty child.

A verb is used to describe an
action.
Examples:
Rashid to karachi.
Verb: Went
He goes to office every day.

verb by telling us how, why,

(adverb: now)
A conjunction is used to join
single words or groups of
words to one another.
Examples:
He could not jump the wall, though
he tried again and again.
(Conjunction: though, and)
He and his family left for murree
yesterday.
(conjunction: and)
A preposition is used to show the
relation of one thing to another.
Example:
We went about the world.
(preposition: about)
We take tea in the afternoon.
(preposition: in)
She sent the parcel by post.
(preposition: by)
An interjection is used to express some
sudden rush of feeling or excitement.
Examples:
Bravo ! my son, you have done excellent
job of work.
(interjection: Bravo)
Alas ! we have lost the match.
(interjection: Alas)
