Parotidectomy is a surgery to remove all or part of the parotid gland. It involves raising skin flaps, identifying the facial nerve and its branches, and then carefully dissecting and removing the parotid tissue while preserving the nerve. Key steps include identifying landmarks like the digastric muscle and tympanomastoid suture line to locate the nerve, and using a tunneling, lifting, and cutting maneuver to separate the gland from the nerve. Hemostasis and protection of the nerve branches is important throughout the procedure.
