1. Valve body

9. Orifice

the valve control the movement of the plunger or piston which in turn controls the opening of
the orifice.

4. Types of a Solenoid Valve:
• Direct-acting valve - Direct operated solenoids have the simplest working principle. In a
normally closed valve, the media flows through a small orifice which can be closed off by a
plunger with a rubber gasket at the bottom. In a direct acting solenoid valve, the plunger is
held down by a small spring made of ferromagnetic material. An electric coil is positioned
around the plunger and as soon as the coil is electrically energized.
• Pilot operated valve - Pilot operated valves uses the differential pressure of the medium
over the valve ports to open and close. It is also known as a servo-assisted solenoids, these
valves provide high flow rates and can operate at higher pressure and temperature ranges,
with lower power consumption.
• 2 Way valve - The ports of this valve are used interchangeably to facilitate opening or
closing of the valve. It can either be indicated as normally open valve or normally closed
valve in its function. Normally closed solenoid valve is used majority of the time, operating
in the opposite manner, keeping closed awaiting activating source to open it.
• 3 Way valve - This type of control valve has three ports. As alternate pressure and
exhaustive pressure are needed for working of a tools or appliances, this three way valve is
frequently used.
• 4 Way valve - This valve includes four ports. It is either specified as normally open,
normally closed, or universal. This is used along with a dual acting cylinder or actuator. Two
of the ports provide pressure while the rest exhaust pressure.
