Universal Design In Education

Abstract
Universal Design is all around us, not just in some of the products that we use but also in
education. According to one article Universal design in education is a framework of instruction that
aims to be inclusive of different learning preferences and learners (Black, D. R., Weinberg, L. A.,
Brodwin, M. G, 2015). There are so many different approaches that a teacher can use in the
classroom involving universal design. In the use of universal design there is also a wide range of
practices that I as a special education teacher can use in the classroom. Universal Design in

In the article Universal Design for Early Childhood Education: Ensuring Access and Equity for
All it states that children are not defined by their disability, but rather, their disability represents
a characteristic, one mere facet of who they are and how they interact with the world (Darragh,
J. 2007). As a special education teacher I need to be open to new ideas on how to teach my
students. I will have students with a wide range of disabilities from mild to moderate to severe.
Incorporating universal design in my lessons and within my classroom is just one practice that
will help my students. Universal design opens up the doors to so many new ideas that can be
used in the classroom to help adapt lessons for my students. As a special education teacher I
realize that not every student will learn the same way, each of my students will have their own
way of learning some might pick things up quickly while others might take some time. In my
classroom I can use the SmartBoard to help in many different types of lessons from math through
science and even English. My students can use the computer to play fun and instructional games
that can help with speech and language and even math. In conclusion, Universal design has opened
up so many different doors for teachers in and outside of the classroom. From the use of adaptive
technology to lesson planning there is so

The Museum Of Modern Art
Before the 19th century, artists mainly made artwork for the wealthy people and the religious
groups. They were controlled by the academy and painted in a way that mainstream society
recognized. Many of their paintings depicted scenes of mythology and church. However in the 19th
century, industrialization brought many new technologies to ordinary people, making the
impossible possible. Many artists began to create artworks to explore the concept of symbolism.
Many of their subjects were daily things such as ordinary people, normal places and the things they
had direct experience on. They challenged the traditional concept that artists must depict realistic
worlds. Instead, they used a wide range of colors, materials and techniques to... Show more content

Van Gogh depicted clouds and stars in whirly shape in order to direct the viewerВґs eye around the
painting. When standing in front the painting, one would spontaneously be attracted by those
swirls and would follow one swirl to another. These elements make the painting seems to be fluid
and abstract. The yellow crescent moon at the upper right corner is blight and mild. It softens
the painting to convey a sense of serenity. Compared to other Impressionist paintings, Starry
Night is somehow different: van Gogh used very expressive color and distorted form to give the
viewers a very bright picture. Van Gogh wrote a letter to his brother to point out that compared to
other Impressionist artists of that time, he utilized exaggeration in terms of composition. He uses
techniques such as surrealism to draw those swirls. In Starry Night the landscape seems to be a
way to convey the artist s emotion. I believe that the fight van Gogh had against his mental illness
is reflected in the painting. When looking at the upper sky in the painting, there is a strong
contrast between the sky and the stars, similar to what van Gogh experienced that time: his illness
and his hope to recover. Van Gogh painted the village in dark color but on the contrary, he used
bright color to draw the windows. I think this contrast gave people the idea that finally human
should have hope and try their best to overcome the

James Parkinson And Geisenheimer s Essay
Did you know that 60,000 people are diagnosed with Parkinson s and 700,000 people suffer from
Alzheimer s each year? Alzheimer s and Parkinson s date back to the 1700 s and 1800 s to when
they were discovered. These illnesses are just as terrifying to the families as it is to the patient.
Because of the scare in the diseases, these families wanted answers. The patients were sent to James
Parkinson and Alois Alzheimerwhich were the doctors who diagnosed these illnesses. Alois
Alzheimer was born on June 14, 1864 in a small Bavarian town in Marktbreit Germany (Alois,
A1). He was born into a catholic family and had an early interest in science. His father was a
royal notary in the kingdom of Bavaria, and because of his first wife s death during child birth,
he remarried and had 6 more children wife his deceased wife s sister, in which Alois was the first
born of his second marriage. As a young boy, Alois had grew up being taught that the strong

Prostate Cancer In Men Essay
Long waist men have a higher risk of developing more aggressive types of prostate cancer, a new
study suggests.
A survey of 140,000 men in eight European countries showed that 10 cm more in abdominal
circumference would increase the chances of developing cancer by 13 percent.
The largest group at risk, however, was men with a waistline greater than 94 cm, according to the
Oxford University study in England.
Prostate cancer is the most common in men.
The study, which was presented at the European Obesity Summit in Gothenburg, Sweden, examined
the association between 50 year old male body measurements and the risk of prostate cancer at 14
years.
During the period, there were about 7,000 cases of prostate cancer, of which 934 were fatal.
The researchers found that men with a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Aurora PГ©rez Cornago of the University of Oxford said the study showed that the association
between body size and prostate cancer is complex and varies according to the aggressiveness of the
disease.
According to her, the big villains would be the cancer causing hormones present in fat cells, but this
has not yet been proven.
Survey showed that 10 cm more in the abdominal circumference would increase the chances of
developing more aggressive type of the disease in 13%.
But she added that the study did not specifically analyze the impact of weight loss on the risk of
prostate cancer.
A spokesperson for Prostate Cancer UK, the largest male health NGO

High School Summer Abroad
I think it is important to experience the High School Summer Abroad Program because it is a
new aspect in my life and it can help me in many ways. I can see the country and learn the
culture and the language. I have been to Costa Rica and Mexico recently, but I would love to see
South America. I want to see the difference in Spanish speaking countries because not all of them
are the same. It is always cool to see a new country, but it is even better exploring it on your own
without your family. The awesome experience you get without your family being there is that you
have to find your way around the country with no help. Also, you are much freer to do what you
wantwithout your family, because you don t have to decide things in a group.

Cross Border Terrorism And Kashmir
Cross border terrorism in Kashmir
Since the beginning, Pakistan s two nations theory that The Hindu and Muslim cannot stay together
in one umbrella, led to partition of India and birth of Pakistan. Jammu Kashmir as an unfinished
agenda of partition and consider that being Muslim majority state contiguous with its territory
should be part of Pakistan. After losing three battle (in 1947 48, 1965, 1971 and Kargil conflict in
1999) on the name of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan, they failed. Pakistan very
well knows that in conventional war they will never accession Jammu and Kashmir; they
approached the low conflict intensity war with India by using sub national actors as a relatively
cheap and easy way to keep Indian forces to tie down and to balance the conventional
asymmetry, for which even death is a laser price to pay. Former Pakistan s foreign minister
Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in a fiery speech delivered at UN Security Council, condemned India s
aggression and declared his nations intend to fight for thousand years. Zia s policy took shape
after General Zia ul Haq had deposed Bhutto in coup in July 1977, assuming the office of
President of Pakistan, he embarked on a new policy to promote terrorism in India through a
thousand cuts in Kashmir. The single act has brought a conceptual change in the Terrorism warfare
theory where idea terrorism has been used. Radical changes have taken place in the way in which

In order to explain the effect that winnings percentage has on attendance, I have created an
adjusted economic model that I have specified above. In order to test my economic model, I have
compiled data for each of the variables specified in the model from the years 2003 to 2005.
The question that I will be answering in my regression analysis is whether or not wins have an
affect on attendance in Major League Baseball (MLB). I want to know whether or not wins and
other variables associated with attendance have a positive impact on a team s record. The y
variable in my analysis is going to be attendance for each baseball team. I collected the ... Show

Payroll is another variable that I will be taking into consideration while doing my regression
analysis. I feel that payroll can have an effect on attendance if a team spends more money on
popular players. These players will be able to attract more fans to the games. Therefore, the more
a team spends on its players the more fans they will be able to attract. I will be obtaining this data
from www.baseballreference.com. The average payroll from 2003 2005 for a team was
$70,974,000. The standard deviation of this variable is $31,463,000. The minimum payroll was
$19,630,000 and the maximum was $208,310,000.
I will be using a dummy variable in my analysis that I feel can have an impact on attendance.
This variable is whether or not the team shares its state with another baseball team. There will be
an obvious negative effect on attendance if there is more than one MLB team in a given state. A
zero is going to represent a team that is the only team in their state and a 1 will represent a team
who shares its state with one or more teams. The data for this dummy variable will come from
www.rodneyfort.com/SportsData. The summary statistics here show a meanvalue of .70 with a
standard error of .4608.
Finally, the last variable that I will be using to relate winning percentage to attendance is the
average earnings of the population. I will be obtaining data based on

Catapulting though Time Physics Essay
Catapulting though Time Physics
Hurling an object towards one s enemy may seem as old as time itself. People have hurled fists at
each other, thrown spears, and launched giant rocks into enemy territory. The use of catapults, and
other objects that hurl projectiles, also seem as old as human civilization itself. The effectiveness
of the catapult in flinging objects over a great distance and causing destruction is due to a few
basic physics principals that govern force, energy, motion, speed and mass to name a few. The
design of the catapult denotes a change in modern warfare to the engineer behind weapons being
just as important as the actual soldiers and people who use them.
Projectile throwing machines are found in three main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We can look at the catapult as a lever which is meant to change direction and/or multiply the
force that is applied to the projectile. A lever has three locations: the fulcrum, on which the lever
arm rotates; the load, where the mass is located on the lever arm; and the effort, where the force,
a push or pull, is applied (Vogel 178). It is meant to throw an object a certain horizontal distance
in a certain, short time frame so that its impact would be greater than just a human hurling a giant
rock at a building. We might intrinsically know this. Probably no mechanical device is older than
the lever; simple and versatile, it s no doubt older than we humans, mentions Steve Vogel in Cat s
Paws and Catapults (Vogel 178). If a larger kid jumps from a tree onto a seesaw with a smaller
child will be launched into the air. The physics principals that govern the catapult also govern force,
mass, speed and acceleration, rotational motion, and projectile motion. From these principals we
find out what the optimum projectile mass, lever arm length, time, and launch angle which would
produce optimum speed, impact, and horizontal distance traveled by the projectile.
Speeding up or slowing down anything that has mass takes force, according to Vogel and this
means force must be applied to the projectile (Vogel 198). Force, merely a push or pull, is applied
to the effort of the lever and is mass times acceleration, which we can

Should High School Athletes Make Dollars
Should Athletes Make Millions? Most young athletes think that you are guaranteed a scholarship in
high school for playing sports. This is not exactly true so donВґt bet youВґre money on it. Only
about 2 percents of high school athletes win sports scholarships every year. I do not think that
once you become a professional athlete you should be making millions annually. First and
foremost, most professional athletes make millions of dollars a year for sports and I disagree
with it. Sports such as football are recreational sports. To make a living more than most
americans for just getting onto a field and playing is crazy. More needed or important jobs such
as teachers, police officers, and fire departments make less than these athletes. One day when the
work is not proportional enough to the work and I feel like these workers may get tired. The
president of the United States of America makes less than most of the athletes. Raises should be
made for the important jobs to be proportional to these athletes.... Show more content on

In most schools today, schools are willing to spend large amounts of money on their successful
football or baseball team instead of using the money for classrooms and other upgrades for the

funded first. Sports in school may even go all out on and drop plans for school upgrades. Schools
will receive grants and spend it on a bigger field or equipment instead of classrooms. Everyone is
told that playing sports is a great way to get a scholarship. Students that are told this might start to
think that using their time for sports is going to get them into college, but itВґs just not

IHSA Interview Essay
Two days before the IHSA State Competition (which involves taking 35 people on a bus for 72
hours three hours south and competing in the Peoria Civic Center), a posting crept into my email
for an Instructional Coach, a position that the district was not planning to create. This position,
which did not have a job description attached, stated that a teacher at each building would
become a TOSA (Teacher On Special Assignment) the following year to fulfill this role. I had
two days to apply and would interview if selected, the next Tuesday. Good luck! Without a
concrete description, I was hesitant to apply. Like my students, I like boundaries and guidelines
(maybe even some sort of rubric). This role, whatever it turned out to be, would certainly push me
outside of my comfort zone, encourage me to collaborate, and challenge me to create connections
and content outside of my small and simple world in D15 the last hallway in the school.
Flash forward through the brief and pithy process and I hear I am. The instructional coach for my

the building principal, and the building leadership team (there have been a lot of meeting I m

Sex alludes to an individual s natural status and is commonly ordered as male, female, or intersex
(i.e., atypical blends of highlights that as a rule recognize male from female). Intersex refers to an
assortment of conditions whereby an individual has attributes of both male and female genders.
There are various pointers of organic sex, including sex chromosomes, gonads, interior conceptive
organs, and outer genitalia. An individual s sex, as dictated by his or her science, does not
generally compare with his or her sexual orientation. Hence, the terms sex and sex are not

It can be argued that economic globalization may or may not be an irreversible trend. There are
several significant effects of economic globalization. There is statistical evidence for positive
financial effects as well as proposals that there is a power imbalance between developing and
developed countries in the global economy. Furthermore, economic globalization has an impact on
world cultures.
1.2 History International commodity markets, labor markets, and capital markets make up the
economy and define economic globalization. Beginning as early as 4000 BC, people were
trading livestock, tools, and other items as a means of money. People residing in Sumer, an early
civilization in Mesopotamia, came up with a token system that was seen as one of the first forms
of commodity money. Labor markets consist of workers, employers, wages, income, supply, and
demand. Labor markets have been around as long as commodity markets. Labor markets grew out
of commodity markets because labor was needed to grow the crops and tend to the livestock. The
growth of commodity and labor markets grew into a capital market where companies and

Suspense In Way Up To Heaven
In the stories Live to Tell , Interlopers , and Way Up to Heaven the shared literary element is
suspense which gets developed through imagery. Each of these stories is unique in their own way.
However they all have one thing in common, suspense. Through settings and characters the authors
develop a great sense of tension and suspense which keeps the reader interested.
Suspense plays in important role in Live to Tell because it builds the mood and helps dramatize
the story to get the point across. This story has wonderful imagery that helps with adding more
effect to the suspense of the story. Then the sound I don t want to hear the whap whap of his

A Research Study On T Test
Good Morning LV Team Members!
We made it! This is our last session and as per your request we will go over the t test for the last
time. T test can be used to analyze two data sets that are independent or dependent of each other.
There are 3 types of t test:
The t test dependent, when the same group of subjects is tested at different time interval, different
conditions or more than once. It is also known as the t test for paired samples or t test for
correlated sample (Salkind, 2004, p.184).
The t test independent: A two sample equal variance test is performed
The t test independent: A two sample unequal variance test is performed

If one has more than two groups to compare then use the ANOVA. There are two way of doing it:
the simple or one way analysis of variance due to the presence of one grouping dimension and the
other one is called factorial design. The factorial design is complex, it is similar to the simple
ANOVA with the addition of more level to the group. For example: number of girls in group1,
group2, group 3 would be simple, now when we add to each group another level like number of
boys that would make it to factorial because each group would have girls and boys.
4 Once you have selected the right statistical test, in our case the t test then we will calculate the
effect size to find out whether the result is meaningful or not. The t test helps us to understand
whether there is statistics significance difference or not.
In our example, we want to find the t test of independency mean. To calculate the t test we need to
calculate the mean, variance (used to calculate the effect size), SD of each lab results.
The t test could be easily calculated using the excel program using four ranges.
The first and the second range would be each group data, then select the number of tail (one tail
has a t test of rejection on one side and two tail would have on each side bell curve) and finally
select the type of t test. One for paired, two for independent with equal variance and three for

The Impact Of Gold On The City Of Potosi
The Impact of Silver
The city of Potosi, which is now modern day Bolivia, was once a vast mining town located in the
Andean highlands in the mid 1500 s. This town was the world s leading producer of silver; the
mountain contained enormous amounts of silver that then created many opportunities for many
different people all around the world. The population of Potosi at this time was around 160,000
large enough that it was comparing to that of cities like London and Amsterdam. This great
mountain supplied many people with all sorts of different jobs. This was a very dangerous and
fatal job for the people and many ended up dead or injured from working in the mines. Once
inside, they spend the whole week in there without emerging, working with tallow candle. They
are in great danger inside there, for one very small stone that falls injures or kills anyone is
strikes. If 20 healthy Indians enter on Monday, half may emerge crippled on Saturday
(Strayer614). Mining in this mountain was very risky and you never knew if you would survive
the day or make it out of mine safely. Once the silver was mined from the mountain in Potosi it
was sent off to many different places all around the world. Mexico, the Philippines, China, and
Japan were all places that silver was exported to. But, the main destination of this silver was to
Spain. The Spanish used this silver for many different things. In Spain itself, which was the initial
destination for much of Latin Americas silver, the

Assemblage Art And The Arts At Ohio State University
Assemblage art is the process of an artist creating a piece of work out of objects and materials
rather than just paints and brushes. Assemblage art interests me more because of the history of
the materials before it was created into a work being displayed. The specific artist used other s
scraps and trash to assemble a piece of art greater than both people combined and the ending
product comes out to be something a lot more significant than trash . Although I don t know
much about assemblage art and the process of it, I can interpret it for hopefully what the artist
wanted me to and I can find the significance within it. The piece of work I chose to analyze
comes from the Wexner Center for the Arts here at Ohio State University. This piece of art was
made in 1988 and comes from the Terri and Michael Smooke Collection, its name is The Last
Supper. Though I didn t learn about assemblage, I was exposed to the relevance of one of the most
historically significant paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, The Last Supper. This late 15th century
painting is a religion icon and depicts JesusChrist and his 12 disciples at their last supper before
Jesus was sent off to get crucified. I believe the piece of art I analyzed was clearly inspired by
Leonardo s The Last Supper due to the same name and key similarities I found in the painting. For
starters, my painting doesn t have any human figures represented in it but instead just silverware,
plates , and sardine cans. The sardine cans near

aircraft is very safe, but it s also can be affected by the hazardous weather situation. Some good
pilot said if he is a good pilot he will know all clouds and will judge the weather good or bad to fly
before they ramp out. So today I want to discuss about the hazardous weather with aviation.
Although a lot of accidents of flight most affect with the human factors. But another big factor I
think is the hazardous weather situations. If these two things combine together it s will have the
high possibility to happen an accident. Like the biggest aviation accident in 1977 years ... Show

It s usually happened in low latitudes especially in tropical rainforest regions. May occur daily in
subtropical and temperature mid latitude areas. It s usually happen in summer, because the
temperature in summer will be hotter than any other seasons and it s easy to produce a low
pressure and high humidity. In the winter it s also happen easily because of the cold front, and
ahead of the cold front sometimes it will produce the squall line thunderstorm [I will explain it in
the next]. Because it s the most common hazardous weather in the world and will produce a lot of
bad effect on airplane if the pilot fly into it. So I want to talk why it s happened and what stages it

cumulonimbus clouds and often accompanied with heavy rain, and sometimes will have the hails

performance and will have a strong downward force sometimes will make the airplane crash. It
usually has three specific situations to build the thunderstorm: the humidity in air is high, High and
low temperature; and a cold front the unstable air.
Recently I fly in American so I find some information that said in the American mid west and
southern states can produce the strongest powerful thunderstorm. It s said it will happen with hails

Andre Derain The Turning Road Analysis
Gianna Sorola Professor Reed Art Appreciation 1301 18 October 2017 The Turning Road, L
Estaque Andre Derain AndrГЁ Derain, born in Chatou, France in 1880 was one of the few leaders
of the Fauvists movement (although only lasting three short years). Playing a vital part in this new
movement, it enabled him to achieve recognition in all of his paintings. Fauvists was created in the
early twentieth century, by modern artist whom emphasized painterly qualities. By having strong,

Derain adds variation to the shapes to create several forms within the painting. The turning roads
are created and flow freely for the fact that the free form arc. From what I can infer, the last tree on
the right was altered by making it thicker on the edges. Many of the forms are characterized by the
trees, bridges, buildings and people. Nevertheless, other forms can be considered non characterized
and just serve to increase the elegance of the painting. Although, he avoided using three
dimensional forms to the best of his ability to attempt of the curve road that displayed three planes.
Across the other forms, they are implied three dimensional. The appearance of three dimensional
was reached by using tonal techniques, which were shading and smearing. When AndrГЁ Derain
was painting in a three dimensional style, it was to portray the trees and walkway in different
angles. This allowed the observers to see the foreground. Although, using one perspective style, the
features throughout the background appear to disappear into the horizon, therefore being unclear.
The main type of lines used in The Turning Road are extremely pronounced, strong, thick and dark.
However, through the painting, some of the lines are thin in certain part of areas to avoid the
attention. This would stimulate the different textures throughout the painting. With the textures of
the painting it would also trigger the motion of the painting. In the works of The Turning Road,

The Nike Essay
The Nike
A Greek would say, When we go to battle and win, we say it is Nike. According to Greek
Mythology, The Nike was the winged goddess of victory. Daughter of the titan Pallas and the river
Styx, Nike sat at the side of the omnipotent Zeus for the duration of his plight with the titans. The
goddess Nike came to be an everlasting symbol of victory and dominance on the battlefields of
ancient Greece. In light of her conquests, a popular footwear company of the 20th century designed
products in her name to push new levels of achievement in athletes worldwide. The Swoosh logo at
the side of each shoe is intended to represent the wing of the Greek Goddess Nike. The vibrant

The first shoe with the Nike Swoosh was introduced in 1972, and with it an ancient flame was
rekindled. This started what would become the most popular and well known brand name in the
history of the shoe industry, and did justice to the ancient goddess of victory for which it stands.
The association with this Greek goddess went much deeper. The Greeks inspired athleticism and
personal prowess by shifting political confrontation to physical competition. The Greeks gathered
an assembly of top athletes around the world, in a competition we now know as the Olympic
games. During the Greek times, athletes gathered on sacred land, namely the Sanctuary of Zeus
and Hera near Olympia, Greece, to celebrate and pay homage to their supreme god. To attain
victory in these games was a matter of great prestige. The Swoosh was designed to not only
embody the wing of Nike and symbolize personal victory, but also to celebrate the spirit and
inspiration of the entire Greek civilization and its competitive heritage.
A low relief carving made in 410 407 BC, Nike Adjusting Her Sandal, was taken from a fragment
of the parapet in the Temple of Athena Nike. As the goddess extends forward, her chiton slips from
her body, and wings balance her stance. The covering lacks the pronunciation found in The Nike of
Samothorace, as it drapes over her figure smoothly rather than extending texture. A direct reference
to footwear and the importance of footwear can be extrapolated

The Importance of Budget Planning
Introduction
The main responsibility of manager is planning for the future by deciding what should be done and
how it will be achieved. Budget is such a formalized system of planning, forecasting, monitoring
and controlling the use of resources which help the managers to achieve organization s objectives
both in public sector and private sector. Budgets fulfill a number of roles in the management of
organizations and different roles may cause some conflicts. Here, we will identify the principal
roles of budgets and have a briefly comment on the compatibility of these differing roles.
Principal Roles
According to Emmanuel et al. (1990), there are five main roles for budgets: a system of
authorization; a means of forecasting and planning; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It always seemed to be the benchmark to compare with the actual performance of the management.
According to this inherent character of budget, it always provides the standard to compare with the
actual performance and get the variance which may help the management to make decision.
Comment on the compatibility of differing roles
Budgets perform different roles in the organization. Some of these roles are compatible with each
other, such as appropriate authorization may increase the accuracy of planning and forecasting. The
low level management could provide more detail and accurate information for the top management
which may help to work out more precise planning and forecasting. Indeed, Clearly defined
responsibilities (Blackwood, 1995) in performance evaluation may help to achieve effective
communication. However, sometime the different role may have some conflicts. For instance, the
over emphasis on the performance evaluation will effect the role of motivation. In a real world, the
evaluation of performance is more complex. Some aspects are easy to measure, such as, sales
volume, productivity, market share, but still intangible factors are difficult to evaluate, for example,
custom service, quality and innovation. Those factors are hard to assess by the fixed budget
system, but they are important to the business success. The over emphasis on performance will stop
the management to

The Intellectual Inequality In H. G. Wells The Time Machine
In H.G. Wells novel The Time Machine, the unnamed protagonist, whom the narrator simply
refers to as the Time Traveller , states, It is a law of nature we overlook, that intellectual
versatility is the compensation for change, danger, and trouble... There is no intelligence where
there is no change and no need for change (pg. 65). The Time Traveller designs and creates a time
machine to travel far into the future, to the year eight hundred and two thousand seven hundred
and one A.D., where he meets a race of tranquil people, the Eloi (pp. 19, 24). He describes one of
the first Eloi men that he meets once he arrives in the future as follows: He was a slight
creature¬ perhaps four feet high clad in purple tunic, girdled at the waist with a leather belt.
Sandals or buskins I could not clearly distinguish which were on his feet; his legs were bare to
the knees, and his head was bare (pg. 19). After spending some time with the Eloi, the Time
Traveller concludes that the entire race is simple minded. The Eloi live uncomplicated lives, free
from struggles, despair, and distress; the Eloi do not work either, the shop, the advertisement,
traffic, all that commerce which constitutes the body of our world, was gone (pg.... Show more

Analysis Of At The Abbey Theater By Rory O Neill
At the Abbey Theater in Dublin, Rory O Neill, a LGBT activist and drag queen known as Panti,
confessed that he was a homophobe like everyone else. Panti explained that to grow up in a society
that is overwhelmingly homophobic and to escape unscathed would be miraculous. As a black man,
I am very aware of racism and how it operates whether institutionally, internally or personally
mediated. As a gayman, something I am still trying to deconstruct, I have been oblivious, perhaps
intentionally, to my internalized homophobia. This dissonance in self awareness is partially due to
the fact that I knew I was black from early childhood but did not realize I was gay until sixth
grade and did not begin to even accept it until twelfth. Many people compare the struggles of
being black to that of being gay. In my opinion, despite some similarities the struggles are
completely different. One is rooted in the legacy of over 200 years of slavery and the other in the
tradition in people trying to cure homosexuality. One is more of an external conflict, the other
internal. When I am followed around in stores like J.Crew or Saks, I am outraged and speak up.
Realizing that ignorant people need to be educated, I usually write a letter to the VP of the
company or loudly claim that I am being racially harassed in front of other customers. And it
works. The VP s call me back and apologize, the staff goes through a sensitivity training, and I
usually get a gift card with a hefty sum. On

The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East
The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from
numerous ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has
been argued by the Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and
by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such
highlights the limits of the liberal political press model. The communist party ran newspaper
Global Times attacked the broadcast as a political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing
or not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case
can be analysed in some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east.
The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political
ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu
Xaiobo as a criminal and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the
program places itself in direct opposition to this, with ThorbjГёrn Jagland stating in his speech that
it is one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history . He labels the Chinese
punishment of Liu as severe and calls Liu the central spokesman for human rights and an
international symbol for the struggle against China. This can in turn be viewed as a critique of the
other and a direct promotion of the western model of

How Does Zhang Yimou Use Dramatic Irony In To Live
Zhang Yimou s To Live is a powerful indictment of communist authoritarian rule and blind
patriotism. The film places the viewer in the position of an insider as the Communist Revolution
alters the political and social landscape of China. By using dramatic irony, Zhang Yimou appraises
communist collectivist culture, class structure and power in revolutionary China, and the Cultural
Revolution. In addition, by using shadow puppetry as a symbol of indoctrination, Zhang Yimou
examines the link between political change, personal tragedy, and bureaucratic incompetence.

Second off, her style was a complex, ever changing wheel of emotion. Sherman utilized self
portraiture as well as role playing, as shown previously in her untitled film stills. Often, these early
stills maintained a black and white aesthetic, not particularly focusing heavily on details, but rather
the reasoning for what was there as well as what it meant. This made ,most of the early stills very
bare bones to the point. This maintained a grounded level for each portrait, keeping the message
and character portrayed a little vague yet understandable with thought. The main common subject
among all of these images, Sherman is dead center. Due to the fact that these are self portraits, the
viewer s eyes always fall upon her, in which it s the same case among the untitled stills.
Thirdly, Sherman s technique may be one of the most unique throughout artistic history. Within her
work, an approach extremely influenced by portrait photography is present. Due to the fact of this,
she approached her portraits with a single feature in focus. She kept this same technique for the vast

A Study on California s Smoking Ban
California s Smoking Ban
(APA Citation)
It was in 1964 that the Surgeon General of the United States first published a report on the ill
effects of smoking cigarettes, and within a year the first law requiring health warnings on cigarette
packages was in effect. From that point, the government has slowly, but continually, imposed more
and more restrictions on the use of tobacco products. Throughout the 1960s, 70 s, 80 s, and 90 s,
the both individual jurisdictions within the State of California, as well as the entire state, continued
to impose tougher and tougher restrictions on smoking cigarettes until 1994, when California
became the first state in the union to pass a law which completely prohibited smoking in most
enclosed workplaces. ( Secondhand Smoke Exposure ) This law, which took effect in 1998,
restricted smoking in all enclosed places of employment including offices, factories, bars and
restaurants. But by the early 21st century, the current restrictions were not enough for California s
lawmakers and a push was started to ban smoking in all public places. Since the passage of these
restrictions in the 1990 s, there has been a great deal of change in the state with advocates of the
smoking ban pointing to the increased health benefits for the citizens of the state, while opponents
focus on the economic damaged in the business community caused by the restrictions. It is
therefore necessary to examine the State of California and its ban on smoking and how it has

is usually kept in a cage outside of the house, and is only allowed out a few hours a day. The

However, looking at situation a little different, the monkey as a symbol gets a new meaning. When

MILTARY SUCCESS
Militaries have been a part of societies for millenniums. Armed forces have been used for the good
of empires, but also for the bad. Many empires have risen to great power through their military but,
the ones in this essay mastered the use of armed forces. Militaries have shaped empires, even in
some cases being a way of live for that society. Even in the beginning of civilizations armies were
beginning to pop up. The use of violence towards other tribes, and groups of people lead to the
development of standing armies. This also led to the establishment of taxation to support food,
equipment, and payment to the soldiers of ever increasing militaries. It is interesting to look into
how militaristic cultures have come up and many cases dominated certain areas. It s fascinating
to see why some empires military have been so successful and won many of battles. In this essay
I will talk about three different empires and how they became successful over time. These three
militaristic cultures are all respected in their own rights. First is the Assyrian Empire. Its military
might started around 900b.c.e on the Tigris river were they would later start a conquest which they
controlled most of the Middle East. Also I will look into Sparta, which the Spartans are considered
some of the fiercest warriors to have lived. Their dominance reached its height around 600b.c.e. In
this essay I will also talk about the

President Reag A Leader And Ethical Leader
Ronald Reagan There are no constraints on the human mind, no walls around the human spirit,
no barriers to our progress except those we ourselves erect (Reagan s State of the Union, n.d.).
Ronald Reagan was the 40th President of the United States and took office during a time of
economic crisis, a disorderly foreign policy, and a decline in national morale. When Reagan left
office 8 years later, the economic crisis was over, foreign policy was at an all time high and
national morale had been restored. In this essay I will illustrate how President Reagan was both a
visionary leader and ethical leader in the way he conducted himself throughout his Presidency. I will

President Reagan sought to use team building to devise a cohesive team with US, Soviet Union and
Allied Nations. During these long drawn out treaties the different nations would use the Z Process
to come up with terms and conditions that would ultimately end decades of nuclear impasse.
President Reagan and other political leaders were in constant state of creating, advancing, refining
and executing their ideas. In the Geneva and ReykjavГk Summits the allied nation team were not
able to come to decision and instead were stuck in the refining process of their ideas. The
summits were still looked upon as a success as Reagan was moving the team closer to the vision
of nuclear abolishment. It wasn t until the Intermediate Range Nuclear Forces Treaty in 1987
where the team was able to complete the entire Z Process and come to a decisive decision to
abolish nuclear intermediate range weapons. Reagan demonstrated he was a visionary leader by his
use of team building while utilizing the Z Process during treaty talks to come up with a solution to
the nuclear stand. His use of inspirational motivation during these treaty talks to motivate the allied
nations to commit to the common vision once again demonstrates how Reagan was a visionary
leader.

Compare And Contrast Spencer And Social Darwinism
Social Darwinism is a belief, popular in the late Victorian era in England, America, and elsewhere,
which states that the strongest or fittest should survive and flourish in society, while the weak and
unfit should be allowed to die. The theory was chiefly expounded by Herbert Spencer, whose
ethical philosophies always held an elitist view and received a boost from the application of
Darwinian ideas such as adaptation and natural selection.
Spencer and Social Darwinism
Herbert Spencer, the father of Social Darwinism as an ethical theory, was thinking in terms of
elitist, might makes right sorts of views long before Darwin published his theory. However,
Spencer quickly adapted Darwinian ideas to his own ethical theories. The concept of adaptation ...

In fact, the early Social Darwinists, who regarded the theory as a logical extension of laissez faire
capitalism, would have been appalled at the use of the concept to promote state run eugenics
programs.
Though its moral basis is now generally opposed, Social Darwinism did have some favorable
effects. Belief in Social Darwinism tended to discourage wanton handouts to the poor, favoring
instead providing resources for the fittest of all walks of life to use, or choosing specific, genuinely
deserving people as recipients of help and support. Some major capitalists, such as Andrew
Carnegie, combined philanthropy with Social Darwinism; he used his vast fortune to set up
hundreds of libraries and other public institutions, including a university, for the benefit of those
who would choose to avail themselves of such resources. He opposed direct and indiscriminate
handouts to the poor because he felt that this favored the undeserving and the deserving person

The Censorship Of Singapore ( Mda )
The practise of censorship the restriction of ideas, action or image through the control of the media
or any other medium of expression. Censorship should be practised sensibly so that it will not
restrict the development and expression of new ideas while ensuring that social and political
harmony is assured. Censorshipplays a vital role in maintaining the morals of its society and
creating an economically dynamic, socially cohesive and culturally vibrant nation. (N.A, N.D)
The press exert a significant influence on the public and is partly responsible for the views and
values that many hold. Hence, it should be responsible with what it put forth to the public.
Singapore has gradually moved from film censorship to film classification and now to the focus
on media literacy. Media Authority of Singapore (MDA) plays a significant role in regulating and
conducting matters pertaining to the media. It is guided by legislation/acts such as Media
Development Authority of Singapore Act, code of practice and guideline to comply and enforce
the entities. In this term paper, we will discuss how the media handle censorship and classification
related matters as well as reviewing the Films Appeal Committee under the films act policy. In this
regard, recommendations will also be given on how to improve the clause.
The media environment has undergone major changes, driven largely by the forces of technology,
media convergence and globalisation. (Media Development Authority, 2014) As

The section Killing for companionship (Fox Levin, Chapter 7) focuses on individuals who
commit crime to fill their feelings of loneliness and lack of support from others. This section
also describes how some serial killers use dead bodies as if they were alive to eat with them and
have a conversation. These individuals may suffer from schizophrenia and hear the voices of
their dead victims speaking to them. Research studies find that schizophrenic individuals are
more violent and aggressive than the rest of the population. The section Killing for
companionship (Fox Levin, Chapter 7) fits the schizophrenia disorder because serial killers
described in this section were more likely to experience hallucination and delusions and acted on
them due to anger and absence of having social support. Due to the lack of support, serial killers
who feel abandoned or fail to have bonds with others may engage in conversations and activities

Hospice Care Thesis
Thesis Palliative/Hospice Care: Necessity or Extension of Healthcare: a topic chosen to obtain
clarity of services, while questioning who is benefiting, patients or the healthcare system.
I.Introduction: The Historical Roots of Hospice
In the 8th century, B.C. the Homeric times, all Greeks without exception were regarded as being
under the protection of Zeus Xenios, the god of strangers and supplicants. A wanderer would be
treated as a guest and offered food, shelter, clothing, and gifts. Violation of the duties of
hospitality were likely to provoke the wrath from the gods. (Forman and Kitzes, et al 2003).
Patients who were not cured by an itinerant physician could be cared for at a temple of

The medical regime, health care organizations and the public are aware of these end of life issues,
therefore must prioritize it s needs. The American Medical Association and the Institute of
Medicine foundation has devoted millions of dollars to public education on this issue through the
Last Acts initiative. (Forman and Kitzes, et al 2003).
This is one reason so many patients enter hospice only in the last days of life. A more reasonable
approach would be to have a patient begin Palliative/Hospice care while receiving curative care.
The Center for Medicare Medicaid Services (CMS) is about to embark on a project to evaluate
whether providing hospice services earlier in an illness along with curative care, improves quality
of life for patients while reducing Medicare spending.
If Palliative/Hospice care were to be provided soon after a terminal diagnosis, there would be
more hospice care would be more timely. About a third of hospice patients die within seven days
of admission to a Palliative/Hospice program. This short length of stay compromises the quality of
care that hospice offers.

The Generic Vs Brand War
Imagine yourself walking down the aisle of your pharmacy like Rite Aid, CVS, or Walmart.
You have been suffering from some headaches and you want to get some pain killers. As you
reach for you a box of Extra Strength Tylenol (also known as Acetaminophen) that costs $8.95 ,
you spot a bottle of Equate Extra Strength Acetaminophen for only $41. Not only is this generic
store brand less than half the price of Tylenol, it also had double the product! You mind wavers
on which capsules to buy. Does the lower cost of generic indicate a lack of effectiveness
compared to Tylenol? Or are generics created equally to brand name medications, but the cost of
brands is driven up due to their marketing? Should doctors prescribe generics as an option for
patients that are covered little or not covered at all by insurance? In the essay, we are going to put
an end to the Generic vs Brand war. Every medicine has its own generic name, which is also
known as its chemical name. The generic name is authorized by creators of the drug and usually
describes the chemical effects that drug takes once it is taken. Medications that have comparative
actions tend to have chemical names that resemble each other (Patient.co.uk). For example,
ibuprofen, flurbiprofen, and fenoprofen are all painkillers. In addition to their generic names, many
pharmaceuticals have a brand name which is also known as their trade name. Generic medicine

At first, I was looking for an archival internship in which I could do research using primary
sources. This qualification limited the internships available for me. I also wanted to get away
from Western Massachusetts, because after growing up here and spending the last few summers
working here at Smith, I felt like it was time for a change. I found internships at presidential
libraries across the country, as well as historical societies. When I expressed my interest in
archives to someone from my hometown, who work for the Clerk s Office of the House of
Representatives, she encouraged me to get into contact with the Office of the Historian. I
applied for an internship in their office and was lucky enough to be chosen. The reason why I
chose to work for the Office of the Historian rather than an independant archive or a historical
society is because the information available through the Office of the Historian, although focused
on Congress, is vast in terms of people covered, time covered, and I have no limits on my
research. Another quality that I appreciated in this internship is that it seems more collaborative
than other ones I was applying for. This internship requires you to work in an office, do individual
research and collaborate with other historians on much larger projects. I also think that being in

Examples Of Signal Detection Theory
S. S. Stevens, who was considered the World s first Professor of Psychophysics, proposed the
Signal Detection Theory. The basic premise of this theory states that perception is not a matter
of sensitivity, but considered in terms of the environment in which the event occurred. Two
critical components of the Signal Detection Theory includes signal, which is considered as the
desired stimulus , and noise, which is the undesired stimulus , or the events in the environment.
Within a signal detection task, there are in total four possibilities or outcomes. These outcomes
depend on the presences of a stimulus as well as a yes or no response. If the stimulus is present
and the response is yes , then the task outcome would be considered a hit. If the stimulus is
absent and the response is yes , then the task outcome would be considered a false alarm . If the
stimulus is present and the response is no , then the task outcome would be considered a miss .
Lastly, if the stimulus is absent and the response is yes , then the task outcome would be
considered a correct rejection .... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sensitivity involves the intensity of the stimulus and the ability of the observers. It is defined by a
sensitivity index, which is the function of the strength of the signal. Sensory criterion, on the other
hand, is defined as Decision Point or Response Bias tendency to respond in a particular manner.
This depends on the expectation of signal and the observer s motivation. These components are
expressed by Receiver Operating Characteristics (ROC) curves, which d is a value defining the
amount of overlap between noise and stimulus. The larger the d value, the more likely one is going
to detect the stimulus

The Ideas, Meanings, And Power Dynamics
The ideas, meanings, and power dynamics in the three books we read are very different, however
some similarities are present. As far as veiling, the meanings within each book are primarily
complimentary. When looking at the views on how certain affairs, such as veiling, should be
enforced and interacted with, we see more skewed ideas. In general, all three show hegemonic
qualities, yet Young and Defiant in Tehran reveals more dominating than hegemonic qualities.
Veiling is an extremely debated and controversial topic all over the world. From what has been
revealed, it can be presumed that a substantial difference of veiling across the board, is
enforcement. From Veiled Sentiments to Young and Defiant in Tehran, the differences in ideas
regarding veiling are noticeably contrasting. The three anthropology texts involved, include further
inside information and feelings regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod,
veiling is a choice and is not forced on women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most
women willingly and happily veilproperly. Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the
Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling. Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not
veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations. Such mockery is described in a story where
grandmothers react to the granddaughters Western style negligees. Once the grandmothers had
found out about them, they put them on, initially embarrassing the girls,

The Legalization Of Drugs Should Be Legal
The legalization of drugs has been an issue in society for quite a long time. People who are for
and against the legalization of drugs can be very opinionated in their beliefs. Often times, some of
these people on both sides of the argument can even be considered extremists. These disagreements
vary quite a bit across the spectrum. Milton Friedman, someone who is for the legalizationof drugs,
argues that A user must associate with criminals to [sic] get the drugs, and many are driven to
become criminals themselves . . . (569). On the contrary, drugs can cause very serious health
problems and due to their destructive nature, they can destroy not only the user, but their family
and loved ones as well. Milton s point reinforces the idea to make drugs legal. However, to make
drugs legal can have serious problems. Health concerns, for instance, can be a major factor if we
decide to legalize drugs. There are also major benefits to make drugs illegal. I stand against the
idea to make drugs legal; it can lead to harmful consequences and regret. My friend who had tried
marijuana for the first time, did not have a satisfying experience afterward. He had non stop panic
attacks, which made him worry about everything. Almost any kind of drugcan have adverse effects
on people which are major health concerns to worry about. Pregnant women that use drugs like
cocaine or heroinhave already hindered or even caused death to the life of their child. Children

Augustine Of Hippo And St. Augustine s Views Of A Single God
Introduction
Many parallels have been drawn between the ancient philosophy known as stoicism and early
Christian thought. They both believe that what ultimately matters in a person is internal, and that
man should not preoccupy himself with earthly belongings. They are both highly individual, and
believe that there is one divine force that is ruling the universe.
And yet, in spite of some essential similarities, there are aspects where the two philosophies
greatly diverge. A peculiar fact is that, although they both seem to have a similar perception of
divinity, their views on the appropriate way to die could hardly be more different. Because death
is a concept indisputably related to faith and conceptions of life after death, and taking into account
the fact that both philosophies can be said to believe in a single God, examining how their beliefs
about afterlife differ may help in understanding why their views on ... Show more content on

That is why the relation of the two has been such an intriguing topic of analysis in both
philosophical and literary contexts.
In the later part of this essay, the work of Augustine of Hippo(or Saint Augustine) will be
discussed. Augustine is considered as one of the most influential Church Fathers, who developed
classical Christian philosophy with his works, in which he drew from Stoic principles, as well as
from Plato and other Hellenistic thinkers.
In De Civitate Dei (The City of God), he addressed issues such as the existence of evil, free will
and the original sin. This and several more of his writings are said to be fundamental for the
formation of Western philosophy, which further adds to the necessity of analyzing the impacts on
his work.

Computer Security Breaches On The Internet
Executive Summary
Internet has grown leap and bounds over the last few years. This has resulted in a number of
computer security breaches on the Internet. Most of the computers that use Internet are vulnerable
to attack. Due to this reason, Intrusion Detection systems have grown rapidly and there is an
ongoing research since it s a developing field. ID (Intrusion Detection) is a type of a security
management system that gathers and analyzes information to identify security breaches, which
include both, attacks from outside the organization and attacks from inside as well (misuse). ID
includes analysis of abnormal activity, tracking user policy violations, assessing systems and file
integrity and vulnerability. It helps us differentiate the normal behavior of system and helps us
obtain any abnormal activity that is taking place. This can be done easily using data mining and it
helps increase its sustainability to attacks.
This project helps us understand the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and our aim is to implement
it using a common tool named (Waitkato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) WEKA that is
written in Java. This tool is very powerful and it will help us implement IDS by using techniques
of data analysis and predictive modeling. It supports various algorithms and tasks such as data
preprocessing, classification, regression, clustering, and many more. It is a very simple tool to
understand and is an open source.

The Roles Of Sophie Scholl
There were about 67 million people living in Germany during the time of the Holocaust, however
only a few had the bravery to speak out against the Nazis. Sophie Scholl was one of these
courageous people. It is evident that Sophie Scholl is a great role model who impacted Germany
because she wrote anti Nazi propaganda, fought for what she thought was right, and Germans today
admire her.
Sophie grew up during the Nazi takeover in Forchtenberg, Germany. Unlike most German families,
hers had their own ideas about the Nazi party. Her father, who was a former mayor of several small
towns in Germany, warned Sophie and her brothers about the new regime eventually abusing their
power (Biography in Context). Her parents also encouraged their children to think for themselves
and speak their minds (Student Resource Center). This parental support foreshadows what Sophie
and her brother would become. The Scholl household was very supportive of their family members.
When Sophie was twelve years old, she joined the League of German Girls. This was a pseudo
Nazi organization (Pettinger). These organizations, called Hitler YouthOrganizations, trained and
educated German teenagers to become loyal followers of the Nazi Party (Zapotczny). Initially,
Sophie excelled in the League of German Girls. She enjoyed the activities and was even promoted
to a leadership position. However, Sophie eventually became skeptical about the organization she
was in (Pettinger). As was typical

  • 2. Universal Design In Education Universal Design in Education Matthew Trotti Grand Canyon University: SPD 500 8/25/15 Abstract Universal Design is all around us, not just in some of the products that we use but also in education. According to one article Universal design in education is a framework of instruction that aims to be inclusive of different learning preferences and learners (Black, D. R., Weinberg, L. A., Brodwin, M. G, 2015). There are so many different approaches that a teacher can use in the classroom involving universal design. In the use of universal design there is also a wide range of practices that I as a special education teacher can use in the classroom. Universal Design in Education According to the Universal Design in Education: An Online... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article Universal Design for Early Childhood Education: Ensuring Access and Equity for All it states that children are not defined by their disability, but rather, their disability represents a characteristic, one mere facet of who they are and how they interact with the world (Darragh, J. 2007). As a special education teacher I need to be open to new ideas on how to teach my students. I will have students with a wide range of disabilities from mild to moderate to severe. Incorporating universal design in my lessons and within my classroom is just one practice that will help my students. Universal design opens up the doors to so many new ideas that can be used in the classroom to help adapt lessons for my students. As a special education teacher I realize that not every student will learn the same way, each of my students will have their own way of learning some might pick things up quickly while others might take some time. In my classroom I can use the SmartBoard to help in many different types of lessons from math through science and even English. My students can use the computer to play fun and instructional games that can help with speech and language and even math. In conclusion, Universal design has opened up so many different doors for teachers in and outside of the classroom. From the use of adaptive technology to lesson planning there is so ... • 3. The Museum Of Modern Art Before the 19th century, artists mainly made artwork for the wealthy people and the religious groups. They were controlled by the academy and painted in a way that mainstream society recognized. Many of their paintings depicted scenes of mythology and church. However in the 19th century, industrialization brought many new technologies to ordinary people, making the impossible possible. Many artists began to create artworks to explore the concept of symbolism. Many of their subjects were daily things such as ordinary people, normal places and the things they had direct experience on. They challenged the traditional concept that artists must depict realistic worlds. Instead, they used a wide range of colors, materials and techniques to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Van Gogh depicted clouds and stars in whirly shape in order to direct the viewerВґs eye around the painting. When standing in front the painting, one would spontaneously be attracted by those swirls and would follow one swirl to another. These elements make the painting seems to be fluid and abstract. The yellow crescent moon at the upper right corner is blight and mild. It softens the painting to convey a sense of serenity. Compared to other Impressionist paintings, Starry Night is somehow different: van Gogh used very expressive color and distorted form to give the viewers a very bright picture. Van Gogh wrote a letter to his brother to point out that compared to other Impressionist artists of that time, he utilized exaggeration in terms of composition. He uses techniques such as surrealism to draw those swirls. In Starry Night the landscape seems to be a way to convey the artist s emotion. I believe that the fight van Gogh had against his mental illness is reflected in the painting. When looking at the upper sky in the painting, there is a strong contrast between the sky and the stars, similar to what van Gogh experienced that time: his illness and his hope to recover. Van Gogh painted the village in dark color but on the contrary, he used bright color to draw the windows. I think this contrast gave people the idea that finally human should have hope and try their best to overcome the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Alzheimer s and Parkinson s date back to the 1700 s and 1800 s to when they were discovered. These illnesses are just as terrifying to the families as it is to the patient. Because of the scare in the diseases, these families wanted answers. The patients were sent to James Parkinson and Alois Alzheimerwhich were the doctors who diagnosed these illnesses. Alois Alzheimer was born on June 14, 1864 in a small Bavarian town in Marktbreit Germany (Alois, A1). He was born into a catholic family and had an early interest in science. His father was a royal notary in the kingdom of Bavaria, and because of his first wife s death during child birth, he remarried and had 6 more children wife his deceased wife s sister, in which Alois was the first born of his second marriage. As a young boy, Alois had grew up being taught that the strong looked over the weak. Years later, in 1894, he had married Cecilia Geisenheimer and had 3 children with her. As the... A survey of 140,000 men in eight European countries showed that 10 cm more in abdominal circumference would increase the chances of developing cancer by 13 percent. The largest group at risk, however, was men with a waistline greater than 94 cm, according to the Oxford University study in England. Prostate cancer is the most common in men. The study, which was presented at the European Obesity Summit in Gothenburg, Sweden, examined the association between 50 year old male body measurements and the risk of prostate cancer at 14 years. During the period, there were about 7,000 cases of prostate cancer, of which 934 were fatal. The researchers found that men with a high ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With bloodbath and commotion postings, cops have seen celebrities on social networks. Scientists have also noted a higher risk of death from prostate cancer with higher BMI and waist circumference. Aurora PГ©rez Cornago of the University of Oxford said the study showed that the association between body size and prostate cancer is complex and varies according to the aggressiveness of the disease. According to her, the big villains would be the cancer causing hormones present in fat cells, but this has not yet been proven. Survey showed that 10 cm more in the abdominal circumference would increase the chances of developing more aggressive type of the disease in 13%. But she added that the study did not specifically analyze the impact of weight loss on the risk of prostate cancer. A spokesperson for Prostate Cancer UK, the largest male health NGO Thea Cunningham of the Cancer Research UK NGO, which is dedicated to research on the disease, says more studies are needed to prove the association between waist circumference and the risk of developing prostate

I can see the country and learn the culture and the language. I have been to Costa Rica and Mexico recently, but I would love to see South America. I want to see the difference in Spanish speaking countries because not all of them are the same. Cross Border Terrorism And Kashmir Cross border terrorism in Kashmir Since the beginning, Pakistan s two nations theory that The Hindu and Muslim cannot stay together in one umbrella, led to partition of India and birth of Pakistan. Jammu Kashmir as an unfinished agenda of partition and consider that being Muslim majority state contiguous with its territory should be part of Pakistan. After losing three battle (in 1947 48, 1965, 1971 and Kargil conflict in 1999) on the name of the accession of Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan, they failed. Pakistan very well knows that in conventional war they will never accession Jammu and Kashmir; they approached the low conflict intensity war with India by using sub national actors as a relatively cheap and easy way to keep Indian forces to tie down and to balance the conventional asymmetry, for which even death is a laser price to pay. Former Pakistan s foreign minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in a fiery speech delivered at UN Security Council, condemned India s aggression and declared his nations intend to fight for thousand years. Zia s policy took shape after General Zia ul Haq had deposed Bhutto in coup in July 1977, assuming the office of President of Pakistan, he embarked on a new policy to promote terrorism in India through a thousand cuts in Kashmir. In order to test my economic model, I have compiled data for each of the variables specified in the model from the years 2003 to 2005. The question that I will be answering in my regression analysis is whether or not wins have an affect on attendance in Major League Baseball (MLB). Payroll is another variable that I will be taking into consideration while doing my regression analysis. I feel that payroll can have an effect on attendance if a team spends more money on popular players. These players will be able to attract more fans to the games. Therefore, the more a team spends on its players the more fans they will be able to attract. I will be obtaining this data from www.baseballreference.com. The average payroll from 2003 2005 for a team was $70,974,000. The standard deviation of this variable is $31,463,000. The minimum payroll was $19,630,000 and the maximum was $208,310,000. I will be using a dummy variable in my analysis that I feel can have an impact on attendance. This variable is whether or not the team shares its state with another baseball team. There will be an obvious negative effect on attendance if there is more than one MLB team in a given state. A zero is going to represent a team that is the only team in their state and a 1 will represent a team who shares its state with one or more teams. The data for this dummy variable will come from www.rodneyfort.com/SportsData. The summary statistics here show a meanvalue of .70 with a standard error of .4608. • 10. Catapulting though Time Physics Essay Catapulting though Time Physics Hurling an object towards one s enemy may seem as old as time itself. People have hurled fists at each other, thrown spears, and launched giant rocks into enemy territory. The use of catapults, and other objects that hurl projectiles, also seem as old as human civilization itself. The effectiveness of the catapult in flinging objects over a great distance and causing destruction is due to a few basic physics principals that govern force, energy, motion, speed and mass to name a few. The design of the catapult denotes a change in modern warfare to the engineer behind weapons being just as important as the actual soldiers and people who use them. Projectile throwing machines are found in three main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We can look at the catapult as a lever which is meant to change direction and/or multiply the force that is applied to the projectile. A lever has three locations: the fulcrum, on which the lever arm rotates; the load, where the mass is located on the lever arm; and the effort, where the force, a push or pull, is applied (Vogel 178). It is meant to throw an object a certain horizontal distance in a certain, short time frame so that its impact would be greater than just a human hurling a giant rock at a building. We might intrinsically know this. Probably no mechanical device is older than the lever; simple and versatile, it s no doubt older than we humans, mentions Steve Vogel in Cat s Paws and Catapults (Vogel 178). If a larger kid jumps from a tree onto a seesaw with a smaller child will be launched into the air. The physics principals that govern the catapult also govern force, mass, speed and acceleration, rotational motion, and projectile motion. From these principals we find out what the optimum projectile mass, lever arm length, time, and launch angle which would produce optimum speed, impact, and horizontal distance traveled by the projectile. Speeding up or slowing down anything that has mass takes force, according to Vogel and this means force must be applied to the projectile (Vogel 198). This is not exactly true so donВґt bet youВґre money on it. Only about 2 percents of high school athletes win sports scholarships every year. I do not think that once you become a professional athlete you should be making millions annually. First and foremost, most professional athletes make millions of dollars a year for sports and I disagree with it. Sports such as football are recreational sports. To make a living more than most americans for just getting onto a field and playing is crazy. More needed or important jobs such as teachers, police officers, and fire departments make less than these athletes. There are two way of doing it: the simple or one way analysis of variance due to the presence of one grouping dimension and the other one is called factorial design. The factorial design is complex, it is similar to the simple ANOVA with the addition of more level to the group. For example: number of girls in group1, group2, group 3 would be simple, now when we add to each group another level like number of boys that would make it to factorial because each group would have girls and boys. 4 Once you have selected the right statistical test, in our case the t test then we will calculate the effect size to find out whether the result is meaningful or not. The t test helps us to understand whether there is statistics significance difference or not. In our example, we want to find the t test of independency mean. To calculate the t test we need to calculate the mean, variance (used to calculate the effect size), SD of each lab results. The t test could be easily calculated using the excel program using four ranges. Panti explained that to grow up in a society that is overwhelmingly homophobic and to escape unscathed would be miraculous. As a black man, I am very aware of racism and how it operates whether institutionally, internally or personally mediated. As a gayman, something I am still trying to deconstruct, I have been oblivious, perhaps intentionally, to my internalized homophobia. This dissonance in self awareness is partially due to the fact that I knew I was black from early childhood but did not realize I was gay until sixth grade and did not begin to even accept it until twelfth. Many people compare the struggles of being black to that of being gay. In my opinion, despite some similarities the struggles are completely different. One is rooted in the legacy of over 200 years of slavery and the other in the tradition in people trying to cure homosexuality. One is more of an external conflict, the other internal. The Western Media Democratic Promotion Against The East The 2010 airing of the Nobel Peace Prize awards ceremony was met with controversy from numerous ends of the world, as its recipient was the jailed Chinese activist Liu Xiaobo. It has been argued by the Chinese government and outlets that this event is a product of the media and by doing so critiques the broadcast as a representation of western imperialism and as such highlights the limits of the liberal political press model. The communist party ran newspaper Global Times attacked the broadcast as a political tool of Western interests , and whether agreeing or not with this accusation, it is easy to understand why such a conclusion can be made. This case can be analysed in some ways as a case of the western media democratic promotion against the east. The idea of democratic supremacy can be argued thoroughly when deliberated through a political ideological perspective. The Nobel committee noted that the Chinese government had labelled Liu Xaiobo as a criminal and saw his prize as provocative to their judgment and rule. Though the program places itself in direct opposition to this, with ThorbjГёrn Jagland stating in his speech that it is one of the most important decision in the peace prizes history . Throughout the 1960s, 70 s, 80 s, and 90 s, the both individual jurisdictions within the State of California, as well as the entire state, continued to impose tougher and tougher restrictions on smoking cigarettes until 1994, when California became the first state in the union to pass a law which completely prohibited smoking in most enclosed workplaces. Two critical components of the Signal Detection Theory includes signal, which is considered as the desired stimulus , and noise, which is the undesired stimulus , or the events in the environment. Within a signal detection task, there are in total four possibilities or outcomes. These outcomes depend on the presences of a stimulus as well as a yes or no response. The three anthropology texts involved, include further inside information and feelings regarding veiling. In Veiled Sentiments by Lila Abu Lughod, veiling is a choice and is not forced on women. Due to the faith and freedom of choice, most women willingly and happily veilproperly. Although sexuality is not a popular norm among the Bedouin, it is not the sole reason for veiling. Granted, women will be criticized and mocked for not veiling or taking part in sexual affiliations. Such mockery is described in a story where grandmothers react to the granddaughters Western style negligees. Once the grandmothers had found out about them, they put them on, initially embarrassing the girls, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 52. The Legalization Of Drugs Should Be Legal The legalization of drugs has been an issue in society for quite a long time. People who are for and against the legalization of drugs can be very opinionated in their beliefs. Often times, some of these people on both sides of the argument can even be considered extremists. These disagreements vary quite a bit across the spectrum. Milton Friedman, someone who is for the legalizationof drugs, argues that A user must associate with criminals to [sic] get the drugs, and many are driven to become criminals themselves . . . (569). On the contrary, drugs can cause very serious health problems and due to their destructive nature, they can destroy not only the user, but their family and loved ones as well. Milton s point reinforces the idea to make drugs legal. However, to make drugs legal can have serious problems. Health concerns, for instance, can be a major factor if we decide to legalize drugs. There are also major benefits to make drugs illegal. I stand against the idea to make drugs legal; it can lead to harmful consequences and regret. My friend who had tried marijuana for the first time, did not have a satisfying experience afterward. He had non stop panic attacks, which made him worry about everything. Almost any kind of drugcan have adverse effects on people which are major health concerns to worry about. Pregnant women that use drugs like cocaine or heroinhave already hindered or even caused death to the life of their child. Children exposed to drugs in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Augustine Of Hippo And St. Augustine s Views Of A Single God Introduction Many parallels have been drawn between the ancient philosophy known as stoicism and early Christian thought. They both believe that what ultimately matters in a person is internal, and that man should not preoccupy himself with earthly belongings. They are both highly individual, and believe that there is one divine force that is ruling the universe. And yet, in spite of some essential similarities, there are aspects where the two philosophies greatly diverge. A peculiar fact is that, although they both seem to have a similar perception of divinity, their views on the appropriate way to die could hardly be more different. Because death is a concept indisputably related to faith and conceptions of life after death, and taking into account the fact that both philosophies can be said to believe in a single God, examining how their beliefs about afterlife differ may help in understanding why their views on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That is why the relation of the two has been such an intriguing topic of analysis in both philosophical and literary contexts. In the later part of this essay, the work of Augustine of Hippo(or Saint Augustine) will be discussed. Augustine is considered as one of the most influential Church Fathers, who developed classical Christian philosophy with his works, in which he drew from Stoic principles, as well as from Plato and other Hellenistic thinkers. In De Civitate Dei (The City of God), he addressed issues such as the existence of evil, free will and the original sin. This and several more of his writings are said to be fundamental for the formation of Western philosophy, which further adds to the necessity of analyzing the impacts on his work. Views on ... • 54. Computer Security Breaches On The Internet Executive Summary Internet has grown leap and bounds over the last few years. This has resulted in a number of computer security breaches on the Internet. Most of the computers that use Internet are vulnerable to attack. Due to this reason, Intrusion Detection systems have grown rapidly and there is an ongoing research since it s a developing field. ID (Intrusion Detection) is a type of a security management system that gathers and analyzes information to identify security breaches, which include both, attacks from outside the organization and attacks from inside as well (misuse). ID includes analysis of abnormal activity, tracking user policy violations, assessing systems and file integrity and vulnerability. It helps us differentiate the normal behavior of system and helps us obtain any abnormal activity that is taking place. This can be done easily using data mining and it helps increase its sustainability to attacks. This project helps us understand the Intrusion Detection System (IDS) and our aim is to implement it using a common tool named (Waitkato Environment for Knowledge Analysis) WEKA that is written in Java. This tool is very powerful and it will help us implement IDS by using techniques of data analysis and predictive modeling. It supports various algorithms and tasks such as data preprocessing, classification, regression, clustering, and many more. It is a very simple tool to understand and is an open source. Specification We considered various tools ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. The Roles Of Sophie Scholl There were about 67 million people living in Germany during the time of the Holocaust, however only a few had the bravery to speak out against the Nazis. Sophie Scholl was one of these courageous people. It is evident that Sophie Scholl is a great role model who impacted Germany because she wrote anti Nazi propaganda, fought for what she thought was right, and Germans today admire her. Sophie grew up during the Nazi takeover in Forchtenberg, Germany. Unlike most German families, hers had their own ideas about the Nazi party. Her father, who was a former mayor of several small towns in Germany, warned Sophie and her brothers about the new regime eventually abusing their power (Biography in Context). Her parents also encouraged their children to think for themselves and speak their minds (Student Resource Center). This parental support foreshadows what Sophie and her brother would become. The Scholl household was very supportive of their family members. When Sophie was twelve years old, she joined the League of German Girls. This was a pseudo Nazi organization (Pettinger). These organizations, called Hitler YouthOrganizations, trained and educated German teenagers to become loyal followers of the Nazi Party (Zapotczny). Initially, Sophie excelled in the League of German Girls. She enjoyed the activities and was even promoted to a leadership position. However, Sophie eventually became skeptical about the organization she was in (Pettinger). As was typical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Descriptive Essay On Texas Snow The ground beneath the stiff leaves lies frozen. I hear sound of leaves crackling underneath my thick boots which each step I take. As I wander aimlessly, the cold, brisk air invades my lungs. I exhale slowly, I see my shaky breath float away from me. The scenery is nothing special, black trees covered in moss, very few hills, rocks in no set trail, and above all else, endless layers of Texas snow(not really snow, just an ice layer maybe 1/3 of an inch). I walk with a cold firearm in my hands and a knife hung on my belt with no intention to use either. Before I was left on the far East side of the 78 acre property, I was told to look and follow anything the resembles a deer. I was not doing a good job, so far I had counted 23 birds and 44 ...
