- 2. www.palagioengineering.com 22 The history of Terracotta On 23rd March 1309, local producers met to sign a notary deed, today preserved in the Florence State Archives, that documents the birth of the corporation of Fornaciari Imprunetini (Impruneta kilns). 1309 700 b.C. In Tuscany the production of Terracotta objects was already known in the VIII century B.C. when the Etruscans created terracotta vases illustrating scenes of daily life.

Terracotta tiles, both for internal or external flooring, are produced with industrial technologies. The floors trade opened out to the International market. 1971 1980 1992 2000 2005 IL PALAGIO is established.. Thanks to a modern plant and to a high quality product, Il Palagio became a leader mark in the world of cotto floorings. IL PALAGIO, the first one in Italy, develops the innovative idea to use terracotta tiles as cladding for vertical surfaces, investing its Know How to industrialize the manufacturing process of "cladding tiles". The first Building was cladded in Zurich. Il Palagio acquires Il Ferrone creating a new group called VIVATERRA that controls the two famous brands of flooring tiles. On 2011 Vivaterra Group acquired also the Cotto Impruneta brand. PALAGIO ENGINEERING, a spin-off of the industrial group Vivaterra, was established to create a division dedicated to provide “turnkey projects” of ventilated facades. PALAGIO ENGINEERING creates a new system for the production of long tubes for sunscreen up to 3 meters and supplies more than 50.000 sqm using this new process for the Courthouse Complex in Abu Dhabi Our history 2009 2011 PALAGIO ENGINEERING develops its own patented aluminum system to sustain the ventilated cladding establishing a new plant dedicated to the manufacturing of the frame system.

- 9. www.palagioengineering.com 99 Aluminum Frame – System XL The support structure consists of a vertical profile made of aluminum alloy extrusion and placed with a pitch equal to the length of the tile. The vertical profile is anchored to the wall with brackets, then clips are screwed in place and hooks are inserted on the clips holding the tiles in the proper position Neoprene gaskets are glued on the hooks to keep tiles from rattling. The support structure allows the necessary adjustments, for thermal expansion of the various components and is engineered to withstand the loads associated with weight, wind and earthquake.
