This document summarizes Pakistan's national capacity assessment for implementing the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management (SAICM). It finds that while Pakistan has institutions for chemical management, capacity is limited by a lack of funding, equipment, and trained personnel. Key gaps include technical expertise, monitoring systems, laboratories, adaptation strategies, and legislation on chemical disposal, transport and storage. Awareness of chemical safety issues is also very low across society. The assessment recommends strengthening individual, institutional and systemic capacity through training, public education, improved coordination, legislation and international cooperation.
