• The earliest paint factory in India dates back to 1902, when
Shalimar Paints, Colour & Varnish Company, was established at
Calcutta by two British entrepreneurs A.N. Turner and A.C. Wright.
• The Indian Paints & Coatings industry is currently valued at Rs.350
billion in terms of value.

The paint industry is broadly classified in two parts:
• The unorganised sector controls around 35% of the paint market,
with the organised sector accounting for the balance.
• In the unorganised segment, there are about 2,000 units having
small and medium sized paint manufacturing plants.

Berger Paints and ICI.
