Scale-up seems easier than start-up in many ways. You've established product-market fit. You've sold $5 or $10M in ARR. You've found a buyer persona to sell and problem (aka, use-case) to solve. You've answered all the hard questions. Now, all you have to do is scale it up. Easy-peasy, right? Not so fast. In this presentation, I'll cover what I see as the top 5 mistakes made during the scale-up phase based on my experience as a CEO of two startups in the $0 to $100M range, CMO of two in the $50M to $1B range, advisor to dozens of startups, and EIR at Balderton capital where we work with scores of startups at both the early and growth stages. We'll discuss: premature scaling, US expansion, insufficient enablement and support, inexperienced management, and the delicate topic of reacceleration after a stall. As a bonus, we'll talk about when your "second album" (i.e., product) should come out and how to maintain focus in a world of market- and sometimes board-driven distractions. See you there!
Getting high returns from events and conferences can be extremely tricky.
Whether you're hosting an event, sponsoring it, or just attending it, the cost in terms of time and money spent gets prohibitively high.
Which is why it's critical for your sales and marketing teams to understand the art and science of using events to acquire new business.
In this webinar, we're bringing in Sales Hacker Head of Partnerships Scott Barker to give you the playbook for successfully hosting, sponsoring and attending events as part of your go-to-market strategy.
During the webinar, Scott and Nextiva Director of Demand Generation Gaetano DiNardi will be showing you:
- How to build your event strategy.
- How to source new business from events.
- How to measure the ROI from your event efforts.

Bloomerang - Get More Major Gifts From Donors Already Around You.pdfBloomerang
The document discusses that it is more costly to acquire new major donors than the amount they donate. It is easier and more cost effective to upgrade existing mid-level donors who are giving just below the major donor threshold to become major donors through cumulative gifts over time. The document recommends organizations focus on upgrading these "diamonds in the rough" by reviewing donor segments, communicating consistently with impactful stories, matching donor interests to organizational needs, and directly asking for increased support.
This document discusses strategies for making donors feel appreciated after making a donation. It emphasizes that the donor experience is emotional and outlines a donor journey framework of committing, affirming, aligning, assessing, activating, and advocating for donors before, during, and after their donation. It stresses personalizing touchpoints like the donation receipt and thank you notes to make donors feel valued and counter post-donation doubts. The potato is a starchy root vegetable native to the Americas that is consumed as a staple food in many parts of the world. Potatoes are tubers of the plant Solanum tuberosum, a perennial in the nightshade family Solanaceae. Wild potato species can be found from the southern United States to southern Chile

Working with data is a challenge for many organizations. Nonprofits in particular may need to collect and analyze sensitive, incomplete, and/or biased historical data about people. In this talk, Dr. Cori Faklaris of UNC Charlotte provides an overview of current AI capabilities and weaknesses to consider when integrating current AI technologies into the data workflow. The talk is organized around three takeaways: (1) For better or sometimes worse, AI provides you with “infinite interns.” (2) Give people permission & guardrails to learn what works with these “interns” and what doesn’t. (3) Create a roadmap for adding in more AI to assist nonprofit work, along with strategies for bias mitigation.

Combined Illegal, Unregulated and Unreported (IUU) Vessel List.Christina Parmionova
The best available, up-to-date information on all fishing and related vessels that appear on the illegal, unregulated, and unreported (IUU) fishing vessel lists published by Regional Fisheries Management Organisations (RFMOs) and related organisations. The aim of the site is to improve the effectiveness of the original IUU lists as a tool for a wide variety of stakeholders to better understand and combat illegal fishing and broader fisheries crime.
To date, the following regional organisations maintain or share lists of vessels that have been found to carry out or support IUU fishing within their own or adjacent convention areas and/or species of competence:
Commission for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources (CCAMLR)
Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean (GFCM)
Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission (IATTC)
International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT)
Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC)
Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO)
North East Atlantic Fisheries Commission (NEAFC)
North Pacific Fisheries Commission (NPFC)
South East Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (SEAFO)
South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organisation (SPRFMO)
Southern Indian Ocean Fisheries Agreement (SIOFA)
Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC)
The Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List merges all these sources into one list that provides a single reference point to identify whether a vessel is currently IUU listed. Vessels that have been IUU listed in the past and subsequently delisted (for example because of a change in ownership, or because the vessel is no longer in service) are also retained on the site, so that the site contains a full historic record of IUU listed fishing vessels.
Unlike the IUU lists published on individual RFMO websites, which may update vessel details infrequently or not at all, the Combined IUU Fishing Vessel List is kept up to date with the best available information regarding changes to vessel identity, flag state, ownership, location, and operations.

29. How do you do that?
Two ways…
1. Matching donor interests and
passions to the needs of the
organization.
2. Creating real connections
§ Find out what the donor’s
deep gladness is.
§ Match it to an organizational
need that you have “packaged”.
31. Compelling Need
¨ I.D. and define problem.
¨ Problem NOT process
¨ Donors want to solve problems with
their resources
32. No problem – no gift!
Without a societal problem to solve….
There is no compelling offer.
Without a compelling offer...
There is nothing to present to your donor.
With nothing to present to your donor...
There is no chance your programs will
match the donor’s interests and passions.
With no chance to serve your donor’s interests and passions...
There will not be a gift.
36. 4 Ways to Tell if a Donor Offer is Good
1. Is it forceful? Strong case for action.
2. Does it demand attention – does it draw you in
– does it attract your interest?
3. Is it convincing? Convincing and believable? Are
you absolutely convinced that:
Ø The need is true and believable.
Ø We must DO something about it?
4. Is it irresistible? Donor cannot avoid taking
action.
