The profiles application is the core of your Connections deployment, it gives insight into the most valuable asset of your company: the people. The profiles service federates information from different source systems into one single reference. To enrich this important part of Connections we can extend the default Profiles data model and tailor it to your company's needs. By doing this, Profiles will become the" place to go" to access people information in your company: a place available to all employees wherever they work, resulting in a higher ROI for your Connections deployment.

What is a portal? Web portals provide a personalized view of your organization, helping you, your customers, partners and suppliers work together better. This portal guide explains how portals provide role-based access to what you need, when you need it. Visit the other pages of this portal guide to learn more.
Here you see the normal Portal login screen. For the mobile device the image is no longer there and the buttons have changed.
Here another sample of transcoding. The menu Items of Mobile Portal is selected and the links and portlets are now shown as a list: Your World, Our Services, About = portlet
Extend Portal web experience to mobile devices though the use of Portal themes for smartphones Optimizes look & feel for smaller screens (site branding, navigation, page layout) Optimizes page download size for mobile connections Create native-looking smartphone Portal themes using familiar technologies and skillsets (HTML, CSS, Javascript) Two mobile theme options provided: Dedicated mobile themes can serve dedicated mobile pages and content Single theme can detect the device and serve mobile presentation or full site and content. Sample themes can be downloaded on Portal Solutions catalog https://greenhouse.lotus.com/plugins/plugincatalog.nsf/assetDetails.xsp?action=editDocument&documentId=3148931F1C482700852576AC0050BD8C&Login
When opening the page Our Services under the Mobile Portal tab/link on the portal, the transcoded page does noet show the portlets It shows a list of portlets.
Mobile Portal Accelerator
Here you see the content of the portlet “Downloads” being rendered for the device. Images are not shown and the selection text are shortened, (screen of PDA is not that wide ) This solution is good for B2C as there is no way to control the device type. Disadvantage is that the UI per device type has to be configured per application. In current timeframe we see that the modern browsers can handle `normal`web content. And most screens are rectangular. So an alternative could be to use the webexprience builder: http://www.slideshare.net/vperrinfr/developing-exceptional-mobile-application
Web vs mashup: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus/library/mashups-web/ http://www-01.ibm.com/software/data/info20/ Mashups are ideal to create light weight apps
Watch out for browser compatibility. Must be able to support JavaScript , Ajax and other web 2.0 technologies. Need for latests greatest, like Safari Opera 9.5
IBM delivers the Expeditor platform on which you can create your own applications. Focus here is on windows Mobile.
