The Disaster Of Historic Proportions
BY now you ve seen the starkly beautiful shots of Boston buried under snow: the panoramic city
under a white blanket; snowbanks so high they crest over parked cars; piercing icicles glinting for
two full stories from gutters dammed with ice; coat muffled people dwarfed by snow walled
corridors that once were sidewalks.
You may have seen the funny images as well: the man snowboarding down an all but empty major
boulevard, pulled by his friend s snowmobile; drunk men diving out of second floor windows into
six foot snowbanks; windows that merely frame a wall of snow.
But for those of us living here, it s not a pretty picture. We are being devastated by a slow motion
natural disaster of historic proportions. The disaster is eerily quiet. There are no floating bodies or
vistas of destroyed homes. But there s no denying that this is a catastrophe.
In just three weeks, between Jan. 27 and Feb. 15, we have had four epic blizzards seven feet of
precipitation over three weeks which crushed roofs, burst gutters, destroyed roads and sidewalks,
closed schools and businesses, shut down highways, crippled public transit and trapped people in
their homes. The infamous Blizzard of 1978 brought around 27 inches of snow and shut down the
region for a week. In less than a month, we ve seen more than three times as much snow. The
temperature has hovered between 5 and 25 degrees, so the snow and ice haven t melted.

In fact, the film s cast, as well as the filmmaker Kiran Rao and her husband, the Bollywood actor

Specialized Budget Analysis
In this paper we explore budgets in depth, the tools that help you make a comprehensive or a
specialized budget and why these may be necessary.
A budget can be thought of as a map towards a goal, such as retirement or saving for a particular
items such as a house or a car. Subsequently, making a budgetgives us a tool to complete this goal
and keep us on track towards the end. Just as the financial planning process involves creating goals,
budgets are a means to make the goals a reality and not just a dream. (Siegel Yacht, 2009) One
tool we learned about of course is being conservative, others include the cash budget when our
income is less predictable, or a comprehensive budget which should include an operating budget
and a capital budget. Moreover, there are times a specialized budget might need to be created for a
specific goal such as a dream vacation or a tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Other specialized budgets are generally created for a specific purpose such as a hobby or
perhaps taxes as Siegel Yacht, (2009) , explained. Moreover, these budgets are prepared with
separate expenses and perhaps even specific income set aside just for these budgets. ( Cash
Budget and Other Specialized Budgets, n.d.) The specialized budget is a part of the
comprehensive budget and used to make your dreams come true or just keep the tax man at bay as
you will.
Finally, using the tools that we learned about in this chapter such as being conservative and taking
the time to create a comprehensive budget that includes a capital budget and specialized budgets
as needed, might be the ticket to buying that yacht to sail around the world just as Alice dreamed
of. Moreover, life can be unpredictable but having a good comprehensive budget can help us keep
our finances a little more stable, which can make difficult times and unexpected monetary expenses

Beer Essay
Our trip to the Sierra Nevada brewery in Chico was very enjoyable. It is always nice to take a long
drive to see somewhere you haven t seen before and be able to see new places along the way. It s
only better when you get to do it with some enjoyable people and get to learn a few things about
something as interesting as the process of brewing beer. Over the short duration of our trip I ve a
acquired some funny stories that work by themselves but I m happy that I get to tell them all.
Though the drives may have been long and the gas expensive but I would definitely do it again.
Part of my story about the trip starts before I even arrive at school. A few minutes before I get to
the school I start hearing the flapping sound, I look and I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later as I m driving I figure that the detour to Walmart must have put us far behind everyone else

get a call that Nick, Joe, and I are going to be sharing a room with Logan and I m pretty sure that
was because we weren t there to protest. So our little detour did matter. It was a strange feeling
once we got all settled into the hotel room because after such a long drive we felt like were on the
road the entire day and the fact that it was already dark supported that feeling so when we got
settled into our room we felt like going to sleep but we realized that it was only about three o clock.
So of course we couldn t go to sleep then otherwise our sleep schedules would be completely

So after spending a couple of hours in the room doing whatever we could to kill the time I

What Is The 101 Damatian Dogs Essay
Once upon a time, a Disney film called 101 Dalmatians was released in the early 90 s, and it
triggered the demand of these black and white spotted dogs. Kids nagged their parents to buy
them one. Sure enough, the parents gave in, and were said to be in total panic to acquire these
puppies, according to an article by Mireya Navarro on the New York Times.
What makes these dogs special, aside from their spots, of course? Let s get to know more about
these dogs.
Basic facts
The Dalmatian is a medium sized dog with a sleek, muscular body and a graceful appeal. Males
reach around 23 inches tall, while females reach about 22 inches. They weigh an average of 45 to
60 pounds (or 20 to 27 kilograms). They live an average lifespan of 10 to 12 years. ... Show more

However, most families may have figured out that the Dalmatians they bought as presents for their
kids were not in line with the dog s high energy and excessive shedding plus the effects of
overbreeding which resulted in genetic defects such as deafness and urinary tract issues, that may
have caused the surge in abandoned dogs.
Leslie Isom, a spokeswoman with the Humane Society of the United States, said it was exactly
what [they] had feared. She adds, What we re trying to get across is that Dalmatians require a

However there are additional threats and limitations that might affect foreign businesses,
particularly retailers. Especially, taking into consideration a significant role that local government
plays in the Chinese market.
The growing concern for retailers is that the Chinese government is discussing adopting
protectionist regulations in the retail industry. New regulations are showing signs already as the
local government has selected a group of local retailers and is giving them financial support. It is
the first stage of formation of the national champions local retail companies which are expected to
become the leaders of the retail industry. There are many reason why the Chinese government is
compelled to undertake these actions such as the retail industry is expanding at a fast rate and from
the local population s perspective the key industry players that benefit from it the most are foreign
companies. This viewpoint pressurises the government to protect the local retail chains, which are
not able to compete against international retail giants because of the insufficient financial resources.
Therefore these regulations are expected to favour domestic retailers in allocation of strategic
locations and have been highly welcomed by national retailers. Under these circumstances it is of
utmost importance for foreign retailers to re assess their future strategies. As it was mentioned

Spanking as a Disciplinary Method
In this literature review, the recent findings about spanking as a disciplinary method for a child is
70% of America adults agreed that it is sometimes necessary to discipline a child with spanking
(Petts, 2002). Spanking helps the child fit into the real world happily and effectively. It is the
foundation for the development of the child s own self discipline (Tobias, 1999). Discipline such as
spankingis about teaching and guiding children, not just forcing them to obey. When using
spanking to discipline, the child should always know that the parent loves and supports him or her.
Trust between parent and child should be maintained and constantly built upon. Studies show that
spanking, properly utilized, can lead to well adjusted children (Dobson, 1992). The discipline of
children has become a very controversial subject and emotional issue, especially in the light of
today s plague of child abuse. There will always be arguments on both sides.
Some Christian parents view spanking as a solution for discipline their children according to Gods
word. Spanking is used to instruct their children in the ways of God. It is important to view
spanking in the total context of child development. While the Bible advocates corporal punishment,
it also places stern restrictions on its use. Spanking should never occur when a parent is angry
(Lansford, Wager, Bates, Pettit, Dodge, 2012). According to the Bible, parents must lovingly shape
their children according to God s

Modus operandi consists of motives, methods of killing, signature, and more. When
investigators use the M.O to create a criminal profile, it becomes easier for them to predict the
killer s next move. Motives can either have a category of power driven, financial, or revenge
/mission based. Power driven killers tend to disable their victims in some way to have complete
control over them. Ted Bundy falls under the category of power killer. He spent years evading
police all over the country. His modus operandi consisted of standing on the side of the road with
a fake cast to get young women to help him (Norris 218). When they walked over to help him, he
incapacitated them and put them in his car. He removed the passenger seat from his car so he
could lay the bodies down without anyone seeing them in his car.
Many revenge killings take place because the perpetrator, wants to take their anger out on
someone who reminds them of the person they hate. One episode of Criminal Minds tells the
story of a man who kills blonde women who look like his overbearing wife. The Green River Killer
fits the mission serial killer mould, characterized by the desire to seek revenge against a particular
type of person

public wanted were enforced, and new opportunities came to a rise. Many of the changes that took

Some political changes that took place were the recall, direct election of senators, referendum,

Some of the social changes were women s rights, conservation, and minority groups fighting
against discrimination. Women s rights was a big thing back then. Women started entering
higher professions and becoming doctors and lawyers. They fought to protect women and
children. They also raised money for libraries, schools, and parks. In 1919, women got the right
to vote after working hard for several years. Conservation was really important back then and
still is to this day. Conservation means the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the
outdoors and worried about the destruction of the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation.
Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside for national parks, which is a natural area
protected and managed by the federal government. Minority groups fighting against discrimination
was also a social change that occurred in the progressive era. Some of these minority groups were
Mexican Americans, African Americans, Jewish Americans, Asian Americans, and Catholics. The
NAACP worked for equal rights for African Americans. Mexican Americans formed mutualists, or
mutual aid groups who helped each other. Catholics were looked down upon and because of
discrimination, the set up their own schools called parochial schools, or schools sponsored by a
church. Many of these minority groups just wanted to be treated equally and not be judged. Those

Examples Of Marxism In Bartleby The Scrivener
Immediately then the thought came sweeping across me, what miserable friendlessness and
loneliness are here revealed. His poverty is great, but his solitude, how horrible! This familiar
statement expresses the narrators moral dilemma in Herman Melville s, Bartleby the Scrivener, and
the narrator assumes that Bartleby is affected by his lack of human interaction. In, Bartleby the
Scrivenerby Herman Melvilledemonstrates the idea of Marxism, the idea of alienation of labor. The

man that thrives in a capitalist society, into understanding the isolation of capitalism.

It is hard for any artist of any kind to keep everyone amazed by their work, especially in a time
when their work would not be credited as much as it should. When Moby Dick was released
Marx had suffered financial trouble and no exceptional critique for his work. I agree with Marx
on the concept that Melville s wrote this book on the social standards for workers in the late
1800 s, and the alienation they face. Melville refused to write books that the public desired or
what the standards of writing topics should be in that day of age. According to Marx alienation
means, the process whereby the worker is made to feel foreign to the products of his/her own labor.
That s how Melville must have felt, alienated by the people around him. Melville worked hard to
write his books, and wanted the praise for his work .However the people of Melville s time wasn t
ready for his work, and they isolated the genius behind his work. Melville is like Bartleby, which
was fascinated by the narrator at first because he said, I would prefer not to. When he is asked to
do something. This is like Melville because his work was fascinated at first by many, and then it
later was not. Bartleby was an allegory for Melville but it also foreshadowed Melville s life, the
Narrator later figured out Bartleby and what he stood for.

The Mythology Of Thor, Apollo, And Other Gods
Much of culture that people have been apart of throughout the centuries has largely been
contributed to the religion in which is followed. For instance, the Greeks believed in Zeus, Apollo,
and other gods of that nature. With the progression of time, however, these religions have slowly
faded turning into simple myths of the past. Many former religions are now mere myths. One in
particular stills plays an influential role in today s modern society, and that is Norse mythology.
More specifically, Thor, one of the many gods of the Norse religion, can still be found throughout
the cultures of the world. Although Thor is no longer necessarily a god, more of a legend, he still

Overall, what is now considered Norse mythology was once a thriving religion with many
follows who had hopes for life after death. Similar to many other religions, Norse mythology
holds one very particular, and special figure that many look up to for guidance and wisdom. In
this case, that person is Thor. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in
Norse mythology. Thor is the son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. His
destined duty, is to protect the Aesir god and their fortress known as Asgard. Many of Thor s
tales are that of him protecting his people and saving the world. Quite often, Thor is dedicated as
having a red beard, the eyes of fire, and being as large as a monster. This image is the intimidating
factor which, in many ways, drives his power and undeniable strength. Many of his tales follow him
into battles with his sidekick goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir, and his brother Loki
. More often

characteristics, Thor has become the archetype of loyalty and that of an honorable warrior,
which still holds true today. As a god, Thor has a very important role. He is considered the storm

Dahl, on Democracy Essay
Democracy has become the most widespread political form of government during the past decade,
after the fall of all its alternatives. During the second part of the 20th century, the 3 main enemies
of democracy, namely communism, fascism and Nazism, lost most of their power and influence.
However, democracy is still only to be found in less than half of this world s countries. China with
a fifth of the total population had never experienced a democratic governmentand Russia still doesn
t have a well established democracy. By adopting a democratic perspective, 3 types of governments

The role of this assembly was to select citizens for public duties. Whereas key positions were
selected through election, other public duties were decided by lottery. Although this is the first
record attempt of democracy, many of the ideas of that time have been ignored, when talking about
modern democratic governments. Concomitant with the Athenian system, in the city of Rome
popular government was introduced as well, albeit under a different name, respublica (from res В–
thing and publicus В– public). Consequently the republic was similar with Greek demokratia. At
the beginning only aristocrats or patricians were allowed to participate at the governing act, but
after much struggle the common people [В….] also gained entry (Dahl, 1998: 13). Only male
patricians, later lower castes as well, were able to govern, meaning that women, same as in Athens,
were denied any political rights. Starting as a city state, the Roman Republic conquered territories
far beyond its initial borders and gave Roman citizenship to the conquered people. Even though this
system might seem sturdy, the impossibility to adjust the institutions of popular government to the
increasing number of citizens and the ever growing Republic is a major flaw. In order to exert their
political rights, the conquered people turned into Roman citizens had to participate in meetings in
the city of Rome, a tedious and expensive effort, which corroborated with the increase in

When a book is written from the third person you get a different feeling if you were to read a

Harris Ann Jacobs. She was born in Edenton, North Carolina in the fall of 1813. She did not know
she was born property of market horniblow. The book she had wrote was not fiction but simply
nonfiction with changed names. This book was chosen to review because when Harris Jacobs

Knowing that these events in this book actually had happened made it harder for me to read.
This chapter you start to see that Mr Flint starting to sexually abuse her. Being as honest as she
was she successfully showed what it was like to be a woman s slave. What he did and the fact
that she was a slave major believe you can go nowhere for protection that s how it affected her
mind. No matter whether the slave girl be as black as ebony or as fair as her mistress. In either
case, there is no shadow of law to protect her from insult, from violence, or even from death. (27)
In the next chapter The Jealous Mistress the treatment of Mr flint kept happening. Now her
mistress kept getting jealous, realizing things were going on. In my opinion the way she
explaining things were happening to her what s a good way to do it. Instead of coming straight
out and saying exactly what Mr flint did to her, she let us infer. Which I personally liked better
because it wasn t as graphic. I said before the reason she wrote this book was to explain the
treatment of her as a slave. She explains I draw no imaginary pictures of southern homes. I am
telling you the plain truth (pg 34). So I think this helps to prove her point that she s not lying
and she is telling exactly how it happened. Also in the chapter The lover it does explain
successfully like the rest of the book of what happens to her, even as a young girl who fell in
love. The book does show what happened but it is not until the middle and the end of the book
you start seeing how it affected her. But you do see a little of the first of her showing her emotions
and what the treatment made her feel. I felt lonely and desolate.

Blow 2 Essay
#1. The Autoblow 2
With the Autoblow 2, a new and improved masturbator for men, you will soon experience a sex
toy that sets a new standard in realistic masturbation. You will be able to give your arm a rest and
allow this blowjob machine to automatically work a load or two out!
The Autoblow 2 retains its predecessor s best features, but adds more to offer better experience
for its users. As for me, it offered a whole new way to get a high level of pleasure without having
to use my hands, unlike what you would do with old school male sex toys and jerk in up and
down motions. Now, if you are asking yourself is the Autoblow 2 is really that good, then read on.
The Autoblow 2 is designed to be a one size fits all fake vagina. This means that the blowjob
machine can be used by men with different penis sizes. It sports 3 differently sized sleeves small,
medium and large so, you will just have to pick one that fits yourself. These sleeves are
interchangeable and are also very easy to clean. In fact, it is probably easier to clean than other
fake vaginas out on the market today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Though it is referred to by many people as a toy, it is actually a blowjob machine that has the
industrial strength, which is not only powerful, but is also built to last after many uses. With
the Autoblow 2, you will no longer need to keep on spending on toys that get broken easily. It is
not operated with a battery (instead you can just plug it into an electric socket), so you will not
experience the hassle of batteries becoming weak and eventually dying out, which can be a very
frustrating experience if it would happen while your penis is inside the device they are supposed
to power up. For its sleeves, they are made of materials that give you a realistic feeling while you

Controversy Over the United States Providing Developmental...
Throughout history and present day times, many countries such as Germany, France, and Canada
have provided assistance and aid to underdeveloped countries to help alleviate poverty. The United
States itself issues aid to developing countries which include Israel, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and
Ethiopia; this has been an American practice since 1947 after World War II. During the time period
from 1947 to 1949 the United States, under the Marshall Plan, provided both financial and technical
assistance to Europe and Asia after the war. As a result, Europe was rebuilt both politically and
economically. Today the United States continues to provide aidto underdeveloped countries, helping
them evolve and strengthen their economy. Many Americans believe that America is doing the
right thing in issuing aid, while others hold the opinion that the United States should not issue
aid, and that the issue of money to developing countries needs to stop. On one side of the issue
the supporters of developmental aid believe that the United States is doing more than a great job
by offering economic assistance to countries that need help to develop. These individuals are
aware of the unfortunate poverty levels in many countries abroad. They believe that it is the duty
of the American people to help reduce the poverty levels in countries in which people live with
less than a dollar a day. In fact, some supporters believe that the U.S. is not offering enough support
to the poorer countries. Many have

The Importance Of Media In The Media
Media is everywhere around the world, it surrounds us even when sometimes we don t even
notice it. It can appear from newspapers to news, or as well physically and throughout electronic
devices such as cell phones. We consider it as a tool to make time fly ahead or to spectate what
is going on with other people s lives. However, we may encounter certain factors that may not
appeal to us. We may see postings or news about tragic events that happen around the world and
surprisingly, sometimes we don t even bother to care, due to the fact that it wasn t us in that
situation. There are a great number of aspects to be resolved for this world to be free from issues,
but a question that comes to mind is, What if it never... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example that can relate to this song is when 9/11 happened, due to terrorists. An unexpected
tragic event that no one thought would happen that took many lives from loved ones to close
ones. In addition, Billie Joe Armstrong s pathos has an outstanding true meaning based from the
lyrics, A new day dawning, comes without warning... . One can interpret based on this factor
that every day is a new opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that
Billie Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though we live
happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any time with
unpredictable outcome. A second example based on this observation can be the terror attack
that happened recently on Friday when a bombing occurred in a London train underground that
injured 30 passengers on board. And furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later
due to the fact that he too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In
addition to the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible
for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? When it s exclusive? ,
as if he were trying to say that it would have to take a miracle for the world to resolve from this.
Many people have experienced moments when others are made fun of or times when people fight
for various reasons such as an argument.

The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians
The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter
of Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a
gentile church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus
which is 100 miles west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the
church of the Colossians since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said,
Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he
mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul
wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison
epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted the Colossians church. This exegetical study
will explore the historical context of the Book of Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted
and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in
today s time because it proves that the power of intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend
the gospelfrom false teaching.
Historical Context
It is apparent within the letter of Colossians that Paul cautioned them to abstain from false
teachings and philosophies that usurp the sufficiency of Christ, his grace, and their faith in Christ

Exploration Of Cultural Identity Formation
I.Exploration of Cultural Identity Formation
How do I define Race and Culture?
Race can first be classified by the geographic place of origin of a people group, but can also be
visually identified by shared physical characteristics such as skin color, hair color and texture, and
facial features. When defining culture, I think of my own which encompasses: traditions and
customs; general values and ethics; political influences; religious influences; technological
influences; historical influences; gender roles/expectations; social class; social status; economic
status; education; language, including its proper and improper use; and something I may have
overlooked prior to my required readings for this paper race.

After reading chapters five and six in the Sue text, I feel that minority groups understand what it
means to be White much better than the majority of White people do. I believe this is because they
have to deal with what it means to not be White on a daily basis, in a culture where whiteness
equates to power and privilege. White privilege unfortunately works like that Whites are
unaware of its oppressive force, as it does not affect us because we created it. If I am honest, I
have realized that I was unaware of many aspects of my own White privilege. For the purpose of
this paper, since political correctness infers that Caucasian is an outdated term (Dewan, 2013), and
to answer what my race is accurately, I am White.
What is my Culture?
Due to page limitations, I will refrain from diving to deep into my cultural makeup, and only
contribute the valuable information that is applicable to the purpose of this paper. The following
addresses my answer: I am a twenty two year old young adult who is a member of Generation Y;
I am a heterosexual female; I am White; my religion is Christianity; my morals and values are
based on the Christian principles with which I was raised, and grew to value independently (with
scrutiny regarding certain areas); I am growing in my political understanding,

Effects Of Erosion Control On The Environment
Erosion control
Before any new construction begins in the United States the state or local municipality typically
requires an environmental impact statement, plan for erosion control, inspections and any other
methods needed to protect the environment from chemicals used, debris, and other waste which
might seep into the groundwater or land and pollute those important natural resources. Our project
is building in Huntsville, Alabama. We plan to follow advice for Low Impact Development, will
use for meeting civil standards for erosion control, such as water purity for example, underground
pipes for sewage. We also plan to attend any soil and water seminars offered before building begins
to learn as much as possible about any new developments in environmental codes.
We will begin to use autocad software to gain a clear picture of the building and the surrounding
area to help see possible sites where erosion might be a problem. The area in which the building
will be located is subject to erosion from wind, rain, and water, which is the primary source of
erosion in Alabama. Therefore, protection from water erosion caused by rains will be one of our
primary concerns. The autocad software will tell us the area we need to protect in it entirely, and
we will use a black silt fence for his purpose. Black silk fence comes in rolls of hundreds of feet,
and if that isn t enough connectors are available to connect additional silt fence.

Themes In Walk Two Moons By Sharon Creech
Do you know what it s like to feel abandoned? In the book Walk Two Moons by Sharon Creech
there are a lot of themes like independency, family and many others. The ones that I like the most
that I feel are the best and most represented are, motherhood and abandonment. I feel like in the
book Sal is the most affected by these themes. On the start of the book Sal and her father moved to
Euclid, Ohio after her mothers death. After that event Sal went through a lot of mixed feelings, she
was feelingenvious and guilty because she thought her mother wasn t happy with her so she was
envy that she wanted another child, and when her mother lost the baby she felt guilty thinking it
was her fault. She was also angry at her father because she thought he was the one who drove her
mother away. And she was also feeling like she was abandoned because her mother left , and
when the accident happened she felt sad because she never said goodbye to her mother and there
was also a lot more of change, changes she never wanted to happen. Before Sal s mother left her

Compare And Contrast The Jacobson V Massachusetts
Introduction
Hippocrates, directed his fellow physicians to help and do no harm (McCormick, 2013) which
basically brought to the bare the fact that, considerations of respect for persons and for justice have
been present in the development of societies from the earliest times.
The Jacobson v Massachusetts was in 1905 was based on a conflict between Jacobson and the
Commonwealth of Massachusetts, over the validity on whether the state could coerce Jacobson to
be vaccinated. In order to control the local small pox epidemic, the State of Massachusetts adopted
a statute which required citizens who forfeited vaccination at any point during the previous 5 years
to either be vaccinated or in default pay a fine. Jacobson, based on his own conviction and thoughts,
refused both to be vaccinated and pay the fine with a claim that a previous vaccination was
detrimental to the health of himself and his son. He sued the state on the basis that the statutes
adopted by the State infringed on his liberty as enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the
Constitution, a plea which was rejected by the the Massachusetts Supreme Court with a subsequent
appeal to the United States Supreme Court also upholding the statutes of the state.

export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than
those fished. Since fishing has been used one of the major ways by humans to meet the ever
increasing demand for food, it has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread
overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Furthermore, increased
overfishing has become a huge threat to every species in the ocean and has largely contributed to
the huge migrations by marine mammals in their quest for the left over fish. While the use of fish
by human beings is not wrong, the whole eco system in the ocean can be severely impacted when
human take too much. In order to deal with this issue effectively, it s important to examine its
causes, effects, and proposed solutions. The Trend of Overfishing across the Globe: According to
the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been
overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). The increase in
fisheries catches across the globe has also been fueled by

Teach For America
Teach For America
Since Hurricane Katrina struck New Orleans in 2005, 4,500 public school teachers were fired in
the city. The storm is the cause of this city s struggling public school system. Also, the public
school population has dropped dramatically. In 2010, studies found 4,000 teens, which is about 10
percent of the city s student population not even enrolled in school (Vanacore 1). The city has fired
7,500 unionized teachers and other school employees, predominately African
American women (Shaw 1). The storm played a huge role in the loss of so many teachers, which
lead to Teach for America. Teach For America, is a nonprofit organization whose stated mission is

To a casual observer, Teach for America s narrative is compelling: an...teach

A $266,000 contract to enlist Teach for America s help with recruiting has divided the

The Social Structure Of Science
Because the communication of findings, necessary in the social structure of science, imparts
validity challenges to the work there needs to be means by which the scientist can facilitate both
communication and validation of the work. This, I suggest, is achieved through the documentation
of the scientific process via specific techniques that serve to create both a simulated direct
observation and a perceived replicability. Logical positivism, as a form of empiricism, links the
validity of a scientific finding with direct experience by asserting that experience is the only source
of meaning, as well as the only source of knowledge (Godfrey Smith, 2003, p. 27) and therefore the
only means of verification of a claim. Given that written communication necessary violates the
assumption of direct experience other means of establishing this experience become necessary. In
the sections that follow, I will highlight two means by which the scientific article asserts objectivity
through both simulated direct observation and perceived replicability. The objectivity and
replicability established though these means in turn allows for the validation the scientific claim
despite the distance created in its communication. The structure of scientific writing The modern
day journal article is widely believed to have it origins in the reports of scientific investigations of
the seventeenth and early eighteenth century, specifically those of Robert Boyle. Day (1989)

Why You Should Get Excited for the Premiere of MAN SEEKING WOMAN
Has the show MAN SEEKING WOMAN ever crossed your television screen? It comes on the same
channel as IT S ALWAYS SUNNY and premieres right after on January 4th, 2017 at 10:30 PM ET
/PT.
So, instead of going to bed and catching some zzz s make sure you tune into MAN SEEKING
WOMAN season three. But, of course, I won t just tell you to watch it without giving you a few
reasons why this show is great.
MAN SEEKING WOMAN is based on Simon Rich s book of short stories, The Last Girlfriend on
Earth. Rich created the 10 episode scripted comedy and serves as Executive Producer/Showrunner.
Jonathan Krisel, Andrew Singer, Lorne Michaels, and Broadway Video serve as Executive
Producers. MAN SEEKING WOMAN is produced by FX Productions.
MAN SEEKING WOMAN is about a character named Josh Greenberg (Jay Baruchel) and his life
throughout his relationship troubles. Although, it is about his relationship troubles, it delves deeper
than that. The surface is not the only issue Josh has with his life. It is also about the troubles of
commitment and being in a relationship for anyone in their 20 s. Josh is a 20 something year old
guy who seems to be meeting the wrong women in his life. Either that, or the wrong women keep
meeting him and therefore results in a failure of a relationship or the beginning of one. However, it
could also be his terrible job, apartment and confidence in general or everything combined.

Menu Analysis Memo
In analyzing the sales data of starters and salads over the course of the first few weeks of this
semester, our current menu items present room for adjustment. There are menu items that are
exemplary and require little to no additional adjustments. Such items might include the truffle fries
and Brussel sprouts. However, we must importantly consider the sheer number of items that need
considerable adjustments. Over half of our starters and saladsconsist of dogs. These items of low
contribution margin (CM) and popularity present an opportunity to generate additional profits. The
following memo outlines the analysis and strategic implementation we will need to take in order to
create a successful menu.

It s not only healthy from a caloric standpoint. Sea vegetables can also be utilized as a substitute
for salt for guest who are conscious of sodium intake.
The house salad is very similar to the soba noodle in terms of both CM and MM. As we continue
to approach winter headlong, it will prove beneficial to develop salads with root vegetables such as
roasted radishes (Rossman, USA Today).
Our most unpopular dish the cube salad also turns out to be amongst our highest in CM. This
puzzle can be solved in a few ways. Our menu design doesn t provide much in the way of
effectively repositioning the cube salad to increase visibility. We can move the cube salad to the
top of the list of the salad section of the menu. The guests at Establishment have been proven to
be trustful of their servers. We can encourage guests to purchase the cube salad by offering it as
a special and having our servers actively suggest starting the course with this salad (Kasavanna,
Menu Engineering). Our cobb salad may look intimidating to some of our guests. It may take a
lot of effort for some individuals to actually consume because of the large chunk of lettuce in the
center of the plate. We can make the salad more palatable by breaking down the lettuce and
incorporating the ingredients of a cobb salad more effectively. Guests will be more inclined to
purchase based on a visuals presentation as a result (Kasavanna, Menu Engineering).

Medium As A Metaphor
This book is about Medium as a Metaphor, that means that we should not believe that everything is
as it may seem, that everything states for something. It is the history of Message and the ways of
transmitting it from the beginnings until now days, from smoke signals and wall drawings until the
modern technologies that Media uses now days. I found it full of information presented in the
funniest way.
Trying to see the American spirit, the author talked about different cities and what ideas they
represent. We must say that the author s arguments are funny especially when he is talking about
the President of the United States as being a movie actor and we can link that to the show Saturday
Night Live.

The main point was that everything should be done in a funny way to influence the masses.

The book speaks about Marxists, Freudians, LГ©vi Straussians and Plato four influential thinkers

allow people to exchange their ideas. Starting from this idea we are introduced into the history of
what is called this days conversation , sending a message and Media.
At the beginning people used smoke signals to communicate and this over time turned into a

ones. For example, when children are young they communicate first by signs and by simple
sounds to express what they wish or feel , at the age of 5 the child starts understanding and using
simple words and over the years they will develop the communication skills and improve their

Racism Is An Epidemic That Has Occurred Throughout History
Racism is an epidemic that has occurred throughout history. Racism is when patterns of
discrimination towards a certain race are established and perceived as normal throughout an entire
culture. It is not one person from a certain race discriminating another person from another race,
but rather an entire population operating in a social structure that makes it difficult for a person
not to discriminate. People of color have been oppressed because of their race/ethnicity by those
who have held the power, i.e. white people. This oppression is institutionalized through laws, social
norms and ideals, customs, etc. and kept because of the theory and belief in white supremacy.

Racism is not the act of a person discriminating against another person of a different race, but of a
whole population operating in a social structure against a race. People of color cannot be racist
towards whites because they do not have that power in a society controlled by white men. White
people can be discriminated against and experience prejudice for their race. Although
discrimination and prejudice are morally wrong, they are not the same thing as racism because
if you consider the world and society as a whole, white people are obviously and inarguably the
privileged race. Racism is systemic and white supremacy allows for an imbalance in power in
which white people do not at all face institutionalized oppression based on their race, but rather
benefit from it (white privilege). White people are not subject to racism because a person of
color does not have the power to oppress them. A person has the power to be mean and rude
towards the white person, but not to oppress. Every racist comment is rude, but not every rude
comment is racist. A person of color being

The Back Of The Future Trilogy Narrative And A Few...
Time travel narratives explore the idea of changing what has been solidified in time; whether
going backwards or forwards, they portray the consequences of the free will of change They also
portray an ideology of the time period it is created in and thus the vision of the future is created
with that in mind. With a rather pessimistic idea of time, there has been an incorporation of comedy
in order to make the events less consequential in their narratives. The Back to the Future trilogy
narrative and a few selected episodes of Futurama share time traveltraits that can explore the
consequences of changing both the past and future but uses comedy in order to alleviate the
morbid idea of time. They both explore the ideas of butterfly effects, alternate universes, causal
loops with scientific accuracy but allows comedy to rectify the absurdity of time travel and its
components. Where Back to the Future sees time travel as an idea that can go both backwards
and forwards, Futurama clearly states that backwards time travel is difficult to do and prove, but
forwards time travel is scientifically capable. In the confines of science fiction, time travel reveals
a side that allows alterations in choices; science fiction narratives are situational ideas that have
been solidified in its event, whereas time travel narratives allow for the exploration of preventing
events from ever happening.
The concept of time travel suffers from the idea of being stuck in a certain time period and

Applying The New Framework For Hobby Lobby
With the compatibility standard, Congress and the Court can still choose to apply the least
restrictive method aspect of the Sherbert test but it becomes almost redundant at this point. Where
the Sherbert test assumes that religion and law are at odds such that ensuring government interest
must somehow infringe on free exercise, the compatibility test already assumes that law and religion
live together in harmony without overly restricting one or the other. Because of such an
assumption, the least restrictive method as a standard can be, but does not need to be applied.
Applying the new framework to Hobby Lobby reveals how granting the religious exemption to
closely held corporations can not only coexist with the government s interests of making sure
female employees have access to the four controversial contraceptives, but it also best ensures
this interest. For the sake of argument, let s first consider what would happen without the
exemption. Closely held corporations would have three choices. They could either ignore their
religious convictions, provide incomplete healthcare coverage by paying an extra $100 per day
per employee fee, or offer no coverage and pay $2000 per year per employee (11). However, these
companies will almost never choose to ignore their beliefs, therefore really only giving them the
latter two choices. In the event of the second choice, women would be offered no alternative,
affordable healthcare option that grants them access to the

Persuasive Essay On Charter Schools
President Trump s choice for Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, was confirmed on February
7th, 2017, and her support for charter schools has become a priority in the administration. CNN
reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter
schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his
education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United
States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for
profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher
unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while
critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the
poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the
past. School choice supporters anticipate the new administration to allocate both state and federal
money for vouchers that can be used for a variety of schools including completely private,
religious, and home schooling. However controversial, charter schools are experiencing a growth in
popularity in locations such as Washington D.C., Arizona, Colorado, and Florida. The shift from
public schools to charter schools could dramatically increase given the influx of potentially $20
billion into school choice

Budget Cuts In Emergency Services

Budget cuts in emergency services research paper Budget cuts have become prevalent in today s
society. More so in recent years inside of emergency services where until recently have been
immune. Governments have withheld from cutting because the 9/11 terrorist attacks placed
these services on a pedestal. This has caused a huge rise in cuts to many services. It also hits
harder in cities that are already inside of a budget crisis. Budget cuts should be prevented and
avoided in emergency services. In recent years funding for emergency services have been on a
steady decline since the 9/11 terror attacks. According to Walters [emergency services have] spent

Many do not know of the budget crisis going on but those that do recognize it is a major issue.
These citizens that understand what is going of have begun to protest because their safety is at
risk. The cuts that have been going on reduce the size of the police force which in turn brings crime
rates up, and also fire departments have fewer men and unmaintained equipment to help rescue
civilians. This scares many citizens into either moving to a city with a better emergency service
budget or protesting to get their city s budget raised. I pray that nobody in this room needs the
police or fire in their new future, another attendee remarked (qtd. In Smith 5). Many citizens feel
that their local governments have been focused on the wrong things. They believe that the local
governments have it all wrong. One citizen quoted in Smith paragraph 6 said the public service has
to be number one. These civilians have gone to city council meeting with petitions and protested a
change. In some areas, this has led to budget renegotiations as well as contracts being

The Life Of Reason By George Santayana
Here s an experiment for you. Ask the next 10 people you meet about what comes to mind when
they think of the word disaster. I did, and you ll probably get answers similar to the ones that I
received: war, hurricane, earthquake, etc. Not a single person got anywhere close to housing crisis,
and unless you work at a mortgagelender or economic think tank, you re probably not going to get
that answer either. This is despite the fact that anybody on the receiving end of that question has
probably not experienced a severe earthquake or hurricane, yet has felt the impact of the 2008
housing bubble simply by being a participant in the economy.
In The Life of Reason, novelist George Santayana wrote the now famous phrase, those who cannot
remember the past are condemned to repeat it. That holds true for housing crises, specifically the
one in 2008. Less than a decade after the world economy nearly collapsed, the vast majority of us
still don t understand what happened or why it happened. Some of us do know, but choose not to
care. Both are equally dangerous.
Housing crises are avoidable. They are borne out of lapses in judgment from three main groups:
lenders that do not make responsible lending decisions, buyers that do not make responsible
buying decisions, and governments that do not make responsible legislation to govern either of the
former parties. Each of them needs to be addressed in order to avoid repeating a sordid, destructive
past.
BANKS: MANAGE RISK

Could The Internet Be The Public Sphere
From the variety of hot topics that are covered by news, we can see that influence of the public
opinion from the Internet cannot not be underestimated, but the scholars have a different view
against Could the Internet be the public sphere . In this essay, commenting function in Yahoo News
articles will be used to evaluate its performance of opinions expressions with Habermas normative

However, these discussions mostly are limited within a bunch of users, who read articles from
Yahoo page, forming an isolated deliberative group, this strengthen the fragmentation and
polarization of the opinions. (Sunstein, 2001, p. 65), to some extend, this also tells why rational
deliberation cannot fully promise the democracy on the Internet. Rasmussen (2008,p.9) also pointed
out that, debate often need to share moral values, but it is hard in an increasingly differentiate
Internet world. Internet users from around the world have different cultural backgrounds and
values, it is difficult to adhere a set of standardized requirements and propose a single solution for
the same problem. In summary , we can find Habermas s deliberative mode does not apply to multi
value society or virtual network space, as it put too much emphasis on communicative rationality
and consensus. Take the view from the actual operation of the network, due to site ownership,
network management system, executive power, the consumer ability to communicate and their use
of habits and many other issues are raised, such as: the vicious competition among interest groups,
online political colonization, hasty and irresponsible online speech, these seems unable to support
the network considered as deliberative public sphere. However, if it is to examine diverse themes,
styles and participation, the use of Internet is

  • 2. The Disaster Of Historic Proportions BY now you ve seen the starkly beautiful shots of Boston buried under snow: the panoramic city under a white blanket; snowbanks so high they crest over parked cars; piercing icicles glinting for two full stories from gutters dammed with ice; coat muffled people dwarfed by snow walled corridors that once were sidewalks. You may have seen the funny images as well: the man snowboarding down an all but empty major boulevard, pulled by his friend s snowmobile; drunk men diving out of second floor windows into six foot snowbanks; windows that merely frame a wall of snow. But for those of us living here, it s not a pretty picture. We are being devastated by a slow motion natural disaster of historic proportions. The disaster is eerily quiet. There are no floating bodies or vistas of destroyed homes. But there s no denying that this is a catastrophe. In just three weeks, between Jan. 27 and Feb. 15, we have had four epic blizzards seven feet of precipitation over three weeks which crushed roofs, burst gutters, destroyed roads and sidewalks, closed schools and businesses, shut down highways, crippled public transit and trapped people in their homes. The infamous Blizzard of 1978 brought around 27 inches of snow and shut down the region for a week. In less than a month, we ve seen more than three times as much snow. The temperature has hovered between 5 and 25 degrees, so the snow and ice haven t melted. Decades of underinvestment and alleged mismanagement of the Massachusetts Bay ... • 5. Specialized Budget Analysis In this paper we explore budgets in depth, the tools that help you make a comprehensive or a specialized budget and why these may be necessary. A budget can be thought of as a map towards a goal, such as retirement or saving for a particular items such as a house or a car. Subsequently, making a budgetgives us a tool to complete this goal and keep us on track towards the end. Just as the financial planning process involves creating goals, budgets are a means to make the goals a reality and not just a dream. (Siegel Yacht, 2009) One tool we learned about of course is being conservative, others include the cash budget when our income is less predictable, or a comprehensive budget which should include an operating budget and a capital budget. Moreover, there are times a specialized budget might need to be created for a specific goal such as a dream vacation or a tax ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Other specialized budgets are generally created for a specific purpose such as a hobby or perhaps taxes as Siegel Yacht, (2009) , explained. Moreover, these budgets are prepared with separate expenses and perhaps even specific income set aside just for these budgets. ( Cash Budget and Other Specialized Budgets, n.d.) The specialized budget is a part of the comprehensive budget and used to make your dreams come true or just keep the tax man at bay as you will. Finally, using the tools that we learned about in this chapter such as being conservative and taking the time to create a comprehensive budget that includes a capital budget and specialized budgets as needed, might be the ticket to buying that yacht to sail around the world just as Alice dreamed of. Moreover, life can be unpredictable but having a good comprehensive budget can help us keep our finances a little more stable, which can make difficult times and unexpected monetary expenses less ... • 6. Beer Essay Our trip to the Sierra Nevada brewery in Chico was very enjoyable. It is always nice to take a long drive to see somewhere you haven t seen before and be able to see new places along the way. It s only better when you get to do it with some enjoyable people and get to learn a few things about something as interesting as the process of brewing beer. Over the short duration of our trip I ve a acquired some funny stories that work by themselves but I m happy that I get to tell them all. Though the drives may have been long and the gas expensive but I would definitely do it again. Part of my story about the trip starts before I even arrive at school. Later as I m driving I figure that the detour to Walmart must have put us far behind everyone else and we were going to be the last ones there. I though it wouldn t have really mattered but then we get a call that Nick, Joe, and I are going to be sharing a room with Logan and I m pretty sure that was because we weren t there to protest. So our little detour did matter. It was a strange feeling once we got all settled into the hotel room because after such a long drive we felt like were on the road the entire day and the fact that it was already dark supported that feeling so when we got settled into our room we felt like going to sleep but we realized that it was only about three o clock. So of course we couldn t go to sleep then otherwise our sleep schedules would be completely thrown off so we would just wake up in the middle of the night and not be able to go back to sleep. So after spending a couple of hours in the room doing whatever we could to kill the time I remember that I have a Buffalo Wild Wings gift card in my glove department that I ve had for about a year. I figured that now would be as good of a time as any to use it and it would help us kill some time. Leslie Isom, a spokeswoman with the Humane Society of the United States, said it was exactly what [they] had feared. • 10. Spanking as a Disciplinary Method In this literature review, the recent findings about spanking as a disciplinary method for a child is 70% of America adults agreed that it is sometimes necessary to discipline a child with spanking (Petts, 2002). Spanking helps the child fit into the real world happily and effectively. It is the foundation for the development of the child s own self discipline (Tobias, 1999). Discipline such as spankingis about teaching and guiding children, not just forcing them to obey. When using spanking to discipline, the child should always know that the parent loves and supports him or her. Trust between parent and child should be maintained and constantly built upon. Studies show that spanking, properly utilized, can lead to well adjusted children (Dobson, 1992). The discipline of children has become a very controversial subject and emotional issue, especially in the light of today s plague of child abuse. There will always be arguments on both sides. Some Christian parents view spanking as a solution for discipline their children according to Gods word. Spanking is used to instruct their children in the ways of God. It is important to view spanking in the total context of child development. While the Bible advocates corporal punishment, it also places stern restrictions on its use. Spanking should never occur when a parent is angry (Lansford, Wager, Bates, Pettit, Dodge, 2012). According to the Bible, parents must lovingly shape their children according to God s ... In 1919, women got the right to vote after working hard for several years. Conservation was really important back then and still is to this day. Conservation means the protection of natural resources. Roosevelt loved the outdoors and worried about the destruction of the wilderness, so he pressed for conservation. Roosevelt also had thousands of acres of land set aside for national parks, which is a natural area protected and managed by the federal government. Minority groups fighting against discrimination was also a social change that occurred in the progressive era. It is hard for any artist of any kind to keep everyone amazed by their work, especially in a time when their work would not be credited as much as it should. When Moby Dick was released Marx had suffered financial trouble and no exceptional critique for his work. I agree with Marx on the concept that Melville s wrote this book on the social standards for workers in the late 1800 s, and the alienation they face. Melville refused to write books that the public desired or what the standards of writing topics should be in that day of age. According to Marx alienation means, the process whereby the worker is made to feel foreign to the products of his/her own labor. That s how Melville must have felt, alienated by the people around him. Melville worked hard to write his books, and wanted the praise for his work .However the people of Melville s time wasn t ready for his work, and they isolated the genius behind his work. Melville is like Bartleby, which was fascinated by the narrator at first because he said, I would prefer not to. When he is asked to do something. This is like Melville because his work was fascinated at first by many, and then it later was not. Overall, what is now considered Norse mythology was once a thriving religion with many follows who had hopes for life after death. Similar to many other religions, Norse mythology holds one very particular, and special figure that many look up to for guidance and wisdom. In this case, that person is Thor. Thor is certainly, one of the more popular and important gods in Norse mythology. Thor is the son of the God of the gods, Odin, and his wife, Fyorgyn. His destined duty, is to protect the Aesir god and their fortress known as Asgard. Many of Thor s tales are that of him protecting his people and saving the world. Quite often, Thor is dedicated as having a red beard, the eyes of fire, and being as large as a monster. This image is the intimidating factor which, in many ways, drives his power and undeniable strength. Many of his tales follow him into battles with his sidekick goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir, and his brother Loki . More often than not, Thor wins these battle because of his almost indomitable strenght. • 16. Dahl, on Democracy Essay Democracy has become the most widespread political form of government during the past decade, after the fall of all its alternatives. During the second part of the 20th century, the 3 main enemies of democracy, namely communism, fascism and Nazism, lost most of their power and influence. However, democracy is still only to be found in less than half of this world s countries. China with a fifth of the total population had never experienced a democratic governmentand Russia still doesn t have a well established democracy. Whereas key positions were selected through election, other public duties were decided by lottery. Although this is the first record attempt of democracy, many of the ideas of that time have been ignored, when talking about modern democratic governments. Concomitant with the Athenian system, in the city of Rome popular government was introduced as well, albeit under a different name, respublica (from res В– thing and publicus В– public). Consequently the republic was similar with Greek demokratia. At the beginning only aristocrats or patricians were allowed to participate at the governing act, but after much struggle the common people [В….] also gained entry (Dahl, 1998: 13). Only male patricians, later lower castes as well, were able to govern, meaning that women, same as in Athens, were denied any political rights. Starting as a city state, the Roman Republic conquered territories far beyond its initial borders and gave Roman citizenship to the conquered people. Even though this system might seem sturdy, the impossibility to adjust the institutions of popular government to the increasing number of citizens and the ever growing Republic is a major flaw. In order to exert their political rights, the conquered people turned into Roman citizens had to participate in meetings in the city of Rome, a tedious and expensive effort, which corroborated with the increase in ... In my opinion the way she explaining things were happening to her what s a good way to do it. Instead of coming straight out and saying exactly what Mr flint did to her, she let us infer. Which I personally liked better because it wasn t as graphic. I said before the reason she wrote this book was to explain the treatment of her as a slave. She explains I draw no imaginary pictures of southern homes. I am telling you the plain truth (pg 34). So I think this helps to prove her point that she s not lying and she is telling exactly how it happened. Also in the chapter The lover it does explain successfully like the rest of the book of what happens to her, even as a young girl who fell in love. Throughout history and present day times, many countries such as Germany, France, and Canada have provided assistance and aid to underdeveloped countries to help alleviate poverty. The United States itself issues aid to developing countries which include Israel, Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Ethiopia; this has been an American practice since 1947 after World War II. During the time period from 1947 to 1949 the United States, under the Marshall Plan, provided both financial and technical assistance to Europe and Asia after the war. As a result, Europe was rebuilt both politically and economically. Today the United States continues to provide aidto underdeveloped countries, helping them evolve and strengthen their economy. Many Americans believe that America is doing the right thing in issuing aid, while others hold the opinion that the United States should not issue aid, and that the issue of money to developing countries needs to stop. On one side of the issue the supporters of developmental aid believe that the United States is doing more than a great job by offering economic assistance to countries that need help to develop. These individuals are aware of the unfortunate poverty levels in many countries abroad. One can interpret based on this factor that every day is a new opportunity for something tragic to happen. This here is the message that Billie Joe Armstrong is trying to convey to us all. He wants us to realize that all though we live happy at times, there is always something dark waiting to approach at any time with unpredictable outcome. And furthermore, a second man was arrested a couple days later due to the fact that he too was also affiliated with the incident as well according to officers. In addition to the topic, Billie Joe Armstrong states about love and peace and how it s impossible for such thing like that to occur, What good is love and peace on earth? • 25. The Historical Context Of The Letter To The Colossians The letter to the Colossians was written by the apostle Paul. It is likely that Paul wrote the letter of Colossians in the late AD 50 s or 60 s, while he was imprisoned. This letter was written to a gentile church plant located in Colossae, a city of Rome. Paul planted churches in Ephesus which is 100 miles west from Colossae. However, it is improbable that Paul is the founder of the church of the Colossians since he was imprisoned at the time. For example, Paul said, Aristarchus my fellow prisoner greets you, (Col. 4:10, ESV) indicating his imprisonment as he mentioned his fellow inmate. The book of Colossians is not the only prison epistle that Paul wrote; The book of Ephesians, the book of Philippians and the book of Philemon are all prison epistles. So, perhaps, it was Epaphras who planted the Colossians church. This exegetical study will explore the historical context of the Book of Colossians to understand why Paul exhorted and prayed for the Colossians to be filled with God s divine will. Colossians 1:9 14 is relevant in today s time because it proves that the power of intercessory prayer edifies the Church to defend the gospelfrom false teaching. We also plan to attend any soil and water seminars offered before building begins to learn as much as possible about any new developments in environmental codes. The area in which the building will be located is subject to erosion from wind, rain, and water, which is the primary source of erosion in Alabama. The Jacobson v Massachusetts was in 1905 was based on a conflict between Jacobson and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, over the validity on whether the state could coerce Jacobson to be vaccinated. In order to control the local small pox epidemic, the State of Massachusetts adopted a statute which required citizens who forfeited vaccination at any point during the previous 5 years to either be vaccinated or in default pay a fine. Jacobson, based on his own conviction and thoughts, refused both to be vaccinated and pay the fine with a claim that a previous vaccination was detrimental to the health of himself and his son. He sued the state on the basis that the statutes adopted by the State infringed on his liberty as enshrined in the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, a plea which was rejected by the the Massachusetts Supreme Court with a subsequent appeal to the United States Supreme Court also upholding the statutes of the state. • 40. The Impacts of Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean Research on Overfishing in the Pacific Ocean: The demand for food across the globe continues to increase as the human population continues to increase. For human populations, particularly people in the poorest countries across the globe, fish is an important source of nourishment and food given the increase in the demand for food. As a result, fisheries catches represent a huge export of energy and mass that can no longer be utilized by trophic levels that are higher than those fished. Since fishing has been used one of the major ways by humans to meet the ever increasing demand for food, it has contributed to widespread overfishing. The widespread overfishing has in turn resulted in the decrease in the global catch of fish. Furthermore, increased overfishing has become a huge threat to every species in the ocean and has largely contributed to the huge migrations by marine mammals in their quest for the left over fish. While the use of fish by human beings is not wrong, the whole eco system in the ocean can be severely impacted when human take too much. In order to deal with this issue effectively, it s important to examine its causes, effects, and proposed solutions. The Trend of Overfishing across the Globe: According to the findings of research, approximately 50 percent of commercial marine species have been overfished in the past five decades (Srinivasan, Cheung, Watson Sumaila, p.1). • 42. The Social Structure Of Science Because the communication of findings, necessary in the social structure of science, imparts validity challenges to the work there needs to be means by which the scientist can facilitate both communication and validation of the work. This, I suggest, is achieved through the documentation of the scientific process via specific techniques that serve to create both a simulated direct observation and a perceived replicability. Logical positivism, as a form of empiricism, links the validity of a scientific finding with direct experience by asserting that experience is the only source of meaning, as well as the only source of knowledge (Godfrey Smith, 2003, p. 27) and therefore the only means of verification of a claim. Given that written communication necessary violates the assumption of direct experience other means of establishing this experience become necessary. In the sections that follow, I will highlight two means by which the scientific article asserts objectivity through both simulated direct observation and perceived replicability. The objectivity and replicability established though these means in turn allows for the validation the scientific claim despite the distance created in its communication. Time travel narratives explore the idea of changing what has been solidified in time; whether going backwards or forwards, they portray the consequences of the free will of change They also portray an ideology of the time period it is created in and thus the vision of the future is created with that in mind. With a rather pessimistic idea of time, there has been an incorporation of comedy in order to make the events less consequential in their narratives. The Back to the Future trilogy narrative and a few selected episodes of Futurama share time traveltraits that can explore the consequences of changing both the past and future but uses comedy in order to alleviate the morbid idea of time. They both explore the ideas of butterfly effects, alternate universes, causal loops with scientific accuracy but allows comedy to rectify the absurdity of time travel and its components. Where Back to the Future sees time travel as an idea that can go both backwards and forwards, Futurama clearly states that backwards time travel is difficult to do and prove, but forwards time travel is scientifically capable. In the confines of science fiction, time travel reveals a side that allows alterations in choices; science fiction narratives are situational ideas that have been solidified in its event, whereas time travel narratives allow for the exploration of preventing events from ever happening. Applying The New Framework For Hobby Lobby With the compatibility standard, Congress and the Court can still choose to apply the least restrictive method aspect of the Sherbert test but it becomes almost redundant at this point. Where the Sherbert test assumes that religion and law are at odds such that ensuring government interest must somehow infringe on free exercise, the compatibility test already assumes that law and religion live together in harmony without overly restricting one or the other. Because of such an assumption, the least restrictive method as a standard can be, but does not need to be applied. Applying the new framework to Hobby Lobby reveals how granting the religious exemption to closely held corporations can not only coexist with the government s interests of making sure female employees have access to the four controversial contraceptives, but it also best ensures this interest. For the sake of argument, let s first consider what would happen without the exemption. Closely held corporations would have three choices. They could either ignore their religious convictions, provide incomplete healthcare coverage by paying an extra $100 per day per employee fee, or offer no coverage and pay $2000 per year per employee (11). CNN reports that DeVos has been a strong advocate in the past for school choice, lobbying for charter schools in her home state of Michigan years prior to her confirmation. President Trump stated his education plan would put forth billions of dollars into school choice programs across the United States. Charter schools are publicly funded and independently run, in some cases operated by for profit and often do not hire unionized teachers a distinction that has put them at odds with teacher unions (Grinberg 2017). DeVos labels charter schools as an extension of public education, while critics of school choice point to both the unchecked power of charter school administrators, and the poor test scores of the students in Michigan charter schools the schools DeVos lobbied for in the past.
