A paper about student-led reforms to the student representation system at the University of Manchester, allowing to much greater capitalisation on student feedback and confidence in the Student Voice being heard, aligned to new areas of exploration through NSS. Presented as part of the Centre for Innovation in Pedagogy at the Association of Learning Technologies confence (ALT-C), University of Manchester 2018, with members Dr Paul Middleditch (Senior Lecturer, University of Manchester), Minju Lee and Siyu Ren (both students on the BA Econ), and Will Moindrot (Learning Technologist at the University of Liverpool Management School).
The presentation provides a background and brief literature review of the current area of student representation. Shares student oberservations of problems with the current system and survey data of ideas for improvement. Three outcomes to date from the action research including a 'rich picture' of the student rep ecosystem, formalisation of the feedback process, and a new easy to use anonymous feedback collection app for use by student reps in their work with students.
In 2019 ACODE ran a survey to understand where Australasian HE Institutions were up-to in relation to establishing micro-credentials. At that point less than a quarter had even a policy in place. Since then the effort towards micro- credentialing has increased. The 2020 ACODE survey reveals that, if not already well-underway, institutions are developing or seriously considering micro- credentialing strategies. A number of interesting trends emerged that this presentation will explore, such as, several universities are working on ways to
integrate existing short course systems into award course systems. Others are planning to offer micro-credentials to businesses and government in a commercial capacity. It was noted that professional practice degrees are a new space being explored to tap into industry partnerships. There is also consideration of co-delivery with VET providers. In all this, many indicated that they needed to rethink their operating structures to best service micro-credentials in their various permutations.

"Introduction to Evidence Synthesis": Professor Rumona Dickson's presentation provided an overview of evidence synthesis and a platform to refine questions that participants wanted to answer related to their own clinical practice. The workshop also included information detailing how teams of health care professionals might access support for addressing their clinical review questions through the CPD programme of the CLAHRC NWC.
The School of Public Health (SOPH) at the University of the Western Cape (UWC) hosted a two-part workshop series in May and October 2015, as part of its ongoing work with 15 sister institutions in Africa and the global South. The overall aim of the workshops was to explore emerging opportunities for expanding access to, and delivery of, post-graduate training in public health for people working in or managing health services/systems.

Abstract: In this panel presentation, three institutions explored how ePortfolio curriculum prompts new ways of thinking about education. In Northeastern University’s online master’s education program, students draw from and transform their earlier “learning ePortfolios” into professional ePortfolios showing accomplishment and career readiness. Key to this transition are four critical moves: remembering, analyzing, envisioning, and synthesizing. In Florida State University’s Rhetoric and Composition ePortfolio, a signature practice is selection, supported by an ePortfolio curatorial process helping students make decisions about what’s to select for the ePortfolio and what to leave behind. Across all three programs, students report that these supportive practices are fundamental.

AAC&U 2017 Presentation Abstract: The ePortfolio community has long been dedicated to documenting, analyzing, and communicating the value of ePortfolios in higher education. But what happens to our students after they graduate? How do alumni perceive the value of their ePortfolio experience? Do they incorporate evidence-based, multimodal, and metacognitive practices into their daily life and work, and if so in what ways? What other insights might they share? This session will present the prominent themes that emerged during interviews and email exchanges with graduates from Northeastern University and Florida State University. The session will also include time for attendees to explore how they might incorporate alumni outreach into their own ePortfolio work and research.

Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

FOCUS ON THE LAST BULLET POINT – THE HIGH TOUCH Private institutions of higher education have been slower to adopt blended learning. We hypothesize that this has to do with institutional culture, particularly that of liberal arts institutions, which values a personalized or “high touch” approach to teaching and learning. In fact, our Sloan proposal was titled “High Touch in a Small Footprint.” What does this mean? Characteristics of “high touch”: A welcoming and highly supportive learning environment Everyone knows your name Faculty and peers care about your success As opposed to increasing the sense of distance , Simmons’s blended programs will increase the sense of presence that our College has in the lives of our students.
