Original post- The Zika virus was first discovered in the Zika Forest in Uganda in 1947 with the first human cases of Zika being detected in 1952. Since then Zika outbreaks have been reported in the African tropics, the Pacific Islands, and Southeast Asia (CDC, 2017). Zika is spreads through a couple of ways including the obvious bite from an infected mosquito, sexual intercourse, from mother to unborn child, and possibly through blood transfusion though it is not confirmed yet. Symptoms include rash, fever, headache, redness of the eyes, joint pain, and muscle pain. Symptoms can last anywhere from several days, to a week though people mostly are not sick enough to go to a hospital (CDC, 2017). The virulence factors of the Zika virus and determined by using reverse genetic systems. This method has now been developed for use with both the Asian and African strain of the Zika virus and will be crucial to identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms behind the differences in pathogenicity and other emerging arboviruses (Rico-Hesse, R., 2017). There is no vaccine or medicine for the Zika virus. Treatment for symptoms include preventing dehydration by drinking lots of fluids, reducing fever with medicines like acetaminophen, and getting plenty of rest (CDC, 2017). To diagnose Zika there is consideration of one’s recent travels, symptoms they are experiencing, and can be confirmed through a urine or blood test (CDC, 2017). Because Zika is spread through infected mosquitos, it is important to properly protect yourself and family from receiving mosquito bites. Methods to help prevent contraction of the Zika virus include bug repellent sprays, long sleeve clothing and long pants, keeping mosquitos out of your home by using screened in windows or doors, covering your bed with mosquito netting, and using protection during intercourse (CDC,2017). Because there is higher levels of poverty in Africa and Asia, it is harder for those people to prevent infection simply because they cannot afford any of the preventative measures. A vaccine can be defined as "biological preparations that, when introduced into the body, cause an individual to acquire immunity to a specific disease” (Davidson. 7). So, for decades, vaccines have been considered one of the best revaluation in medical practice. A long time ago, people all around the world tried to fight with different kinds of fatal diseases by different ways, and one of the most Significant ways is to make a vaccine, to prevent such life-threatening diseases. The first vaccine was against the Smallpox disease. Smallpox is a highly contagious disease and caused a lot of fatalities all around the world, and it is transmitted between people by inhalation of droplets of virus or direct contact with smallpox lesion secretions (Davidson 25). It is a deadly disease, it caused blindness and permanent scars in the patients that survived. Finally, after several attempts to make a vaccine for Smallpox, Edward succeeded to produce an effective and safe vaccine in 1796 by using the cowpox vaccine to protect from smallpox. Cowpox is a disease caused by cows and transferred to a human, and Jenner's theory was based that whoever had cowpox will be immunized against smallpox (Davidson29).“Edward Jenner was an English country doctor who introduced the vaccine for smallpox. Previously a keen practitioner of smallpox inoculation.”

It is a deadly disease, it caused blindness and permanent scars in the patients that survived. Finally, after several attempts to make a vaccine for Smallpox, Edward succeeded to produce an effective and safe vaccine in 1796 by using the cowpox vaccine to protect from smallpox. Not so long ago, I was in charge of Safety for a fleet of vehicles and drivers. The trucks always had a "team", i.e. 2, and sometimes 3 to a truck to perform delivery duties. There always seemed to be accidents that were minor (damage) to the vehicles with no injuries to the driver team. These accidents would mostly occur while backing. Prior to my managing of fleet safety, technological advancements had "SUBSTITUTED" the job of a good old-fashined "spotter". Back up cameras, sensors and additional mirrors had replaced a person simply disembarking the vehicle and positioning themselves in a safe location to make eye-contact with the driver; and usher the driver/truck into the parked position. Seeing that "ENGINEERING CONTROLS" were already in-place, I needed to affect "ADMINISTRATIVE CONTROLS" and revise the drivers current Standard Operating Procedures, SOP's, (outlining backing) to incorporate the passenger performing duties as a spotter. This also necessitated a training component for the entire fleet of drivers as to expectations around both critical functions of driving and acting as the spotter. This change was implemented successfully and minor-backing accidents, without a spotter, reduced significantly and the engineering controls were present as an additional measure in lieu of ELIMINATING the spotter.

- 1. Original post- The Zika virus was first discovered in the Zika Forest in Uganda in 1947 with the first human cases of Zika being detected in 1952. Since then Zika outbreaks have been reported in the African tropics, the Pacific Islands, and Southeast Asia (CDC, 2017). Zika is spreads through a couple of ways including the obvious bite from an infected mosquito, sexual intercourse, from mother to unborn child, and possibly through blood transfusion though it is not confirmed yet. Symptoms include rash, fever, headache, redness of the eyes, joint pain, and muscle pain. Symptoms can last anywhere from several days, to a week though people mostly are not sick enough to go to a hospital (CDC, 2017). The virulence factors of the Zika virus and determined by using reverse genetic systems. This method has now been developed for use with both the Asian and African strain of the Zika virus and will be crucial to identifying the cellular and molecular mechanisms behind the differences in pathogenicity and other emerging arboviruses (Rico-Hesse, R., 2017). There is no vaccine or medicine for the Zika virus. Treatment for symptoms include preventing dehydration by drinking lots of fluids, reducing fever with medicines like acetaminophen, and getting plenty of rest (CDC, 2017). To diagnose Zika there is consideration of one’s recent travels, symptoms they are experiencing, and can be confirmed through a urine or blood test (CDC, 2017). Because Zika is spread through infected mosquitos, it is important to properly protect yourself and family from receiving mosquito bites. Methods to help prevent contraction of the Zika virus include bug repellent sprays, long sleeve clothing and long pants, keeping mosquitos out of your home by using screened in windows or doors, covering your bed with mosquito netting, and using protection during intercourse (CDC,2017). Because there is higher levels of poverty in Africa and Asia, it is harder for those people to prevent infection simply because they cannot afford any of the preventative measures.
