Indus valley civilization
The beginning of India can be traced back to
thousands of years ago, around 2500BC
Around 4500 years ago, cities began to rise
among the scattered agricultural settlements on
the Indus plain. These cities were Mohenjo-Daro
and Harappa.

• Invaders came from Europe and ruled India for
hundred of years. They setup small kingdoms
and created modern Hinduism and combined
with their own culture and also they
established India`s caste system.

Alexander the Great-
• Macedonian (Greek) who led conquering
forces across northern India. They ruled briefly
and were forced out of India after Alexander’s
death.

Maurya Empire
• Dynasty begun by Chandragupta Maurya and
Asoka (grandson) took over and ruled all of
India for many years. He realized the power of
Lord Buddha and adopted Buddhism.
• He spread Buddhism. But after his death many
war and disunity amongst people.

Mughal empire
• In 12th century Muslim invaded India. Central
Asians led by Mugals, established kingdom in
northern India. Akbar who conquest of central
India and formed strong and efficient
government. He encouraged business and
commerce. In his period many forts, mosques,
palaces and tombs were built.
• Taj Mahal which is in Agra (India) is a tomb
built by a Mughal emperor.

Colonial India
• The British East India Company obtains trading rights
from the Mughal Empire. When Mughal Empire was
declining Britishers came with new policies like
introducing western education system, legal system
and moreover converting Indians to Christianity.
• But Indians felt the interference of Britishers and also
felt the discrimination against not to hold government
jobs. This all lead to the revolt against Britishers

Rebellion-
• The sepoy Rebellion started with Mangal
Pandey in 1857 against Britishers. After this lot
of revolts and clashes with Britishers occur.
Nationalism was growing in the 1800s and
many national leaders participated and
wanted to have complete Independence.

Hindu and Muslim resistance
• Gandhi ji believed Satyagraha and wanted
unity between Hindus and Muslim but all
meetings were failed with Muhammad Jinnah
as he believed that separate nation for
Muslims.

India`s Independence
• With many struggles finally India got freedom
from Britishers on 15th August1947. But the
price that India had to pay was Hindu-Muslim
division. Pakistan was declared an
independent nation.

Issues regarding Kashmir
• After the division of Hindustan and Pakistan
various issues and tensions still prevail. One
important issue is on Kashmir as it’s still come
under Hindustan. Many wars which are
actually killing the innocent people.

India Today(present scenario)
• India is a developing nation and it’s famous for
its art and culture. Various schemes and
policies launched to make India a self
sufficient economy. In 1991 LPG policy which
changed the face of our economy. Delhi metro
projects, Rozgar yojna, Brics which was the
paradigm shift in Indian economy.
