• The Dragon Boat Festival is
held in China on the 5th day
of the 5th month. It is a
cultural festival that has
been running for over 2,000
years, in remembrance of a
patriotic legend in China.
• The event involves dragon
boat racing, a lantern and
boat show and traditional
foods and costumes.
4. How did it come about?
• QU YUAN: A patriotic poet who
served in high offices.
• 28 years after being falsely
accused for conspiracy, he
committed suicide by drowning
himself in a river in China on the
5th day of the 5th month.
• The people of China searched
for his body on boats, and threw
rice covered in bamboo in the
river to keep the fish from eating
his body.
