Oral and maxillofacial surgeons are dental specialists who treat conditions of the mouth, face, and neck. They undergo extensive education and training, including 4 years of undergraduate study, 4 years of dental school, and 4-6 years of residency training, for a total of 12-14 years. Oral surgeons perform procedures like dental implants, wisdom tooth extractions, treatment of misaligned jaws, and surgery for issues like tumors, cysts, trauma, and oral cancer. They are also trained to administer different types of anesthesia.
