The study developed a "diamond model" to analyze recognition approaches. What is HEI-UP?
HEI-UP (Improving Business Processes in Higher Education Institutions) is a European project focused on upgrading BPM in HE (higher education) institutions through a common managerial model and offering an e-learning course for HEI managers under the umbrella of the European Certification and Qualification Association (ECQA).
Why business processes?
Business process management (BPM) has been argued to be a more effective and efficient way of managing organizations than a traditional hierarchical management approach.
Today, the most successful universities are business-oriented. An efficient BPM builds up an ideal environment for achieving a high level of pedagogical, research and administrative staff, and above all, student satisfaction.
What's in there for you and your institution?
The HEI-UP project gives you the opportunity to:
● Learn from and contribute to the managerial model developed within the project
● Become more aware of internal managerial efficiency through the tools and support provided

Learning how to assess learning portfolios
When institutions switch from a program assessment system to individual learning portfolios, students spend more time reflecting upon, personalizing, and documenting their work. During such a transition, assessment design becomes more challenging. Alignment of artifacts to program standards is essential to ensure continuity of learning and program documentation. We describe a transition from a sterile electronic portfolio system to a learner centered, reflective blogging portfolio (bPortfolio) using free WordPress.com accounts. Session attendees will receive access to examples of portfolio entries, assessment rubrics, and strategies for using four types.

Growing up with Mahara
Southampton Solent University conducted research from 2008-2009 on how to better support students' personal development and recording of progress. They piloted the open source ePortfolio system Mahara from 2009-2010 and found that while students liked it, help resources and support needed improving. From 2010 onward, Mahara was adopted more widely across programs and support was expanded. Evaluations found Mahara helped with reflective practice, group work, and professional portfolios. By 2015, additional programs were piloting Mahara's benefits for work-based learning, feedback, and transforming practice.

TU Delft Impact of moocs for EADTU HOME project

An open source curriculum and community-based certification scheme for Drupal was proposed. The proposal involved developing competencies organized around key areas, with maintainers responsible for updates. Training providers could share compatible materials and assess individuals' competencies through portfolios. Certification would be community-based and representatively democratic. Benefits included easier entry for new members, easier hiring for clients, and ensuring the direction of certification. Challenges and a discussion of practical implementation were discussed.
