• Specifically - SDG 4 – Quality Education
• Overall - incorporating SDG solutions and education
in teaching and learning

• Content can be easily adaptions into other languages
• Disability access can be facilitated
• OER supports the creation of localised versions of content
• If OER was the norm access to knowledge and education
would be more inclusive and equitable
• OER can be created and tailor made
• OER can be used by EVERYONE
• Making “disposable assignments a thing of the past
means more time can be spent trying to solve world
issues
• Engaging students in real world problems is a good
thing! Students can contribute to improving curriculum,
work on complex and authentic problems such as the
SDGs, and have their work be used in the fields
• Open practices: Shift to students and teachers/ faculty
building, revising and creating community around OER.

The Future of OER
• The OER movement is gaining momentum in Australia – but there is still
work to be done – such as my PhD research – I want to know the best
and most effective way to sustain open access to cultural and knowledge
goods.
• In Australia we are relatively fortunate – we have broad access to a
range of cultural and knowledge goods through our University
subscriptions and licenses
• OER is starting to be more widely used and adopted
• We have some freedom to create our own teaching content and are
surrounded by colleagues who support new and innovative ways of
teaching and learning.
• As educators, librarians, learning designers, academics and researchers
we can start to take steps to progress the SDGs through advocacy,
content creation and research using OERs as our vehicle.
Lets work together to make a difference

  • 8. • OER can be created and tailor made • OER can be used by EVERYONE • Making “disposable assignments a thing of the past means more time can be spent trying to solve world issues • Engaging students in real world problems is a good thing! Students can contribute to improving curriculum, work on complex and authentic problems such as the SDGs, and have their work be used in the fields • Open practices: Shift to students and teachers/ faculty building, revising and creating community around OER. How can OERs Progress the UN SDG’s overall?

The Future of OER • The OER movement is gaining momentum in Australia – but there is still work to be done – such as my PhD research – I want to know the best and most effective way to sustain open access to cultural and knowledge goods. • In Australia we are relatively fortunate – we have broad access to a range of cultural and knowledge goods through our University subscriptions and licenses • OER is starting to be more widely used and adopted • We have some freedom to create our own teaching content and are surrounded by colleagues who support new and innovative ways of teaching and learning. • As educators, librarians, learning designers, academics and researchers we can start to take steps to progress the SDGs through advocacy, content creation and research using OERs as our vehicle.
