Presentation on faculty rights and responsibilities with regards to copyright. Topics include open access, creative commons, public domain, course reserves, electronic reserves, and publishing agreements.
The European Commission is working to improve open access to publicly funded research publications and data. It has established policies and initiatives to increase access, including guidelines for research funded by the European Research Council to be openly accessible within 6 months of publication. The Commission also reimburses open access publication fees for research funded under FP7. Most EU member states are pursuing open access activities but would benefit from more coordination and national strategies. Going forward, the Commission will monitor ongoing initiatives and work to establish policies for H2020 and help create a fifth freedom of knowledge movement in Europe.
The document discusses the European Commission's policies and actions regarding open access to scientific publications and research data. It outlines the EC's role in promoting open access through its research funding programs and infrastructure support. It also describes surveys conducted and policy developments being considered to further open access goals in Europe, including recommendations to member states and policies for the upcoming Horizon 2020 research program.

Managing and disseminating Open Educational Resources ukcorr
Managing and disseminating open educational resources involves three key steps: (1) collecting existing teaching materials from faculty and filtering for IPR issues, (2) hosting resources through open repositories and websites to maximize exposure, and (3) arranging resources by subject, course, or faculty for easy access by learners. A variety of content types and formats are used, and resources are released under open licenses to facilitate sharing. The goal is to advance open educational practice and provide flexible learning opportunities to diverse audiences.

The document discusses open education initiatives at the University of Cape Town (UCT). It describes UCT's OER project funded by the Shuttleworth Foundation, which involved surveying teaching resources, supporting OER creators, and publishing exemplar OERs. The project employed a part-time team and used an open-source Drupal directory to host OERs. UCT's strategies included using existing infrastructure, small innovation grants, and engaging the community. Metrics showed growing use of the OER directory. Benefits included computer literacy training and a guide used by multiple universities. Other South African open initiatives discussed were Funda Wande and Siyavula.
This presentation discusses open access and how it promotes the free sharing of scholarly research. It defines open access and notes that only a fraction of research is accessible currently due to limited journal subscriptions. The presentation outlines the benefits of open access in increasing research visibility, usage, impact, and progress. It provides examples of open access journal collections and repositories, and how researchers can publish and fund open access. It also discusses the University of Johannesburg's initiatives to promote open access through its institutional repository and open access awareness events.

Keynote Presentation - IPARC conference - Kwok NgKwok Ng
These are the slides for the IPARC conference, keynote presentation about the Impact of COVID-19 on adolescents physical activity engagement.
IPARC is the Irish Physical Activity Research Collaboration and presentation was held in January 2021.
In this talk, I describe briefly the importance of influencers among adolescents, some findings about PA and changes during COVID-19 and how the results fit into a Socio-Ecological Model. There were barriers and facilitators to physical activity during the Spring 2020 lockdown in Ireland. Schools, sport clubs, and gyms were closed, and people were restricted to move within a few km of their homes.
Presentation was on 13th January 2021

The global perspectives in the future of health promotion. Interventions in health promotion on adolescent physical activity. University of Eastern Finland, lecture 19th March 2020
The document discusses the use of Peerwise, an online platform where students create questions and answers to test their understanding of course material. It provides an overview of Peerwise and examples of how it has been implemented in various courses. Studies have found that students who actively used Peerwise by writing questions, answers, and comments performed better than students who did not engage. However, considerations must be made around workload and assessment requirements when deciding how to incorporate Peerwise into a course.

Physical activity behaviours and functional difficulties: Results from the F-...Kwok Ng
Kwok Ng presented findings from the Finnish School-aged Physical Activity (F-SPA) study on the physical activity behaviors of adolescents with functional difficulties. The study found that adolescents with disabilities were less physically active, spent more time on screens, slept less, and participated less in sports clubs compared to peers without disabilities. Differences between disability types were minimal. The results suggest health promotion for adolescents with disabilities needs a biopsychosocial approach to address variations in needs based on disability.
Adapting physical activity survey instruments for Inclusive Education SettingsKwok Ng
This document summarizes research adapting physical activity survey instruments for use in inclusive education settings. The researchers converted existing national surveys to be more accessible for students with disabilities. They tested modified surveys with easier reading levels and images in special education classrooms. Most students were able to complete the adapted surveys in under 30 minutes. Teachers provided feedback that visual aids helped students understand questions better. The study demonstrated the feasibility of collecting comparable physical activity data from students with disabilities for national monitoring.
Inclusive Educational Learning EnvironmentsKwok Ng
This document provides information about Kwok Ng, a postdoctoral researcher from the University of Eastern Finland and University of Limerick. It discusses Ng's research areas such as inclusive educational learning environments and special education. Specific topics covered include the physical, pedagogical, social, and technological environments that impact learning. The document also presents data on disability rates across European countries and an upcoming study Ng will conduct on testing the effectiveness of online learning.

This study examined differences in physical activity levels between adolescent males and females with and without disabilities using data from the 2017 Finnish School Health Promotion Study. The study found that males were more likely to meet physical activity recommendations compared to females. Among inactive youth, females reported participating in more physical activity than males. Additionally, adolescents with certain disabilities like seeing or hearing difficulties did not necessarily have lower physical activity levels than peers without disabilities. The study provides insight into targeting physical activity interventions for specific subgroups.
Adapting physical activity survey instruments for children in special educati...Kwok Ng
This document summarizes research adapting physical activity survey instruments for use with children in special education settings. It discusses converting existing surveys to be administered through self-report for this population. A study was conducted to test the intra-rater reliability of a modified Child Functioning Module questionnaire administered to children in special education schools in Finland with a 2-week gap between administrations. The results showed substantial agreement for a vision item but poor agreement for items on self-care, attention, and coping with change, suggesting the need to modify question wording and examples to improve understanding for this group.
This study investigated the use of physical activity tracking devices and mobile apps among Finnish adolescents and the association with daily moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA). The study found that over half of adolescents had smartphone apps for physical activity monitoring, but few reported actively using devices such as heart rate monitors or sports watches. Adolescents who actively used tracking devices were more likely to meet daily MVPA recommendations compared to those who did not have or actively use devices. The study concluded that while commercial activity trackers have reached many adolescents, more research is needed to understand how their use impacts health behaviors.
Increased Injuries from Sport in adolescents with LTIDKwok Ng
The document examines injuries in adolescents with and without long-term illnesses or disabilities (LTID) in Finland. It finds that adolescents with LTID, especially severe LTID, report more injuries than their non-disabled peers, and the rate increases with age. Sports-related injuries are less common in severe LTID, but sports club members are over 7 times more likely to experience serious sports injuries. The severity of LTID appears to correlate with higher rates of overall injuries.

Open Methods
•Registering reports can open up research methods to be replicated by others
•Reduction of Type I errors
– Saying there is something, when there is not
•Predefined Hypothesis
– Use of Pre-registration such as ‘Aspredicted.org’
•Study protocols

Open Peer-review
•Journal ensure scientific quality when they are reviewed by peer experts.
•Double blind – authors and reviewers do not know each other
•Single blind – authors do not know the reviewers
•Open review – authors and reviewers know each other during the review
process.
•Transparency in the process whereby potential conflicts of interest are publicly
available.
