This document discusses the need for a global learning infrastructure that is more socially aware and compatible with Web 2.0 communities. It argues that current learning object repositories (LORs) are not growable in a social web context and have interoperability issues. A new generation of authoring tools is needed that is based on layers of abstraction rather than just learning technology specifications in order to better support information sharing and retrieval within user communities on a global scale.
Positioning and Navigation: Services for Open Educational PracticesMarco Kalz
To choose suitable resources for personal competence development in the vast amount of open educational resources is a challenging task for a learner. Starting with a needs analysis of lifelong learners and learning designers we introduce two wayfinding services that are currently researched and developed in the framework of the Integrated Project TENCompetence. Then we discuss the role of these services to support learners in finding and selecting open educational resources and finally we give an outlook on future research.

Designing, building and maintaining a coherent content model is critical to proper planning, creation, management and delivery of documentation and training content. This is especially true when implementing a modular or topic-based XML standard such as DITA, SCORM and S1000D, and is essential for successfully facilitating content reuse, multi-purpose conditional publishing and user-driven content.
During this presentation we will review basic concepts and methods for implementing information architecture. We will then introduce an innovative, comprehensive methodology for information modeling and content development that employs recognized XML standards for representation and interchange of knowledge, such as Topic Maps and SKOS. In this way, semantic technologies designed for taxonomy and ontology development can be brought to bear for creating and managing technical documentation and training content, and ultimately impacting the usability and findability of technical information.

Work in Progress on the Standardization of Online Laboratories for EducationMiguel R. Artacho
In the last years we have witness the increasing use of remote laboratories in education, encompassed by the development of technology enhanced learning from k-12 to higher education. In this context there is a need, on one hand to define and establish a common consensus on the structure and operation of remote laboratories (RL) from learning technologies perspective as open educational resources (OER) independent from LMSs. On the other hand, cloud computing and the concept of XaaS makes meaningful to consider laboratories as another lego piece of an educational resource in the cloud with a focus on potential standardardized information models and protocols as a common basis for instructional interoperability based on search, retrieval, labeling and services for educational purposes.

Connector Corner: Automate dynamic content and events by pushing a buttonDianaGray10
Here is something new! In our next Connector Corner webinar, we will demonstrate how you can use a single workflow to:
Create a campaign using Mailchimp with merge tags/fields
Send an interactive Slack channel message (using buttons)
Have the message received by managers and peers along with a test email for review
But there’s more:
In a second workflow supporting the same use case, you’ll see:
Your campaign sent to target colleagues for approval
If the “Approve” button is clicked, a Jira/Zendesk ticket is created for the marketing design team
But—if the “Reject” button is pushed, colleagues will be alerted via Slack message
Join us to learn more about this new, human-in-the-loop capability, brought to you by Integration Service connectors.

Do you want to learn how to model and simulate an electrical network from scratch in under an hour?
Then welcome to this PowSyBl workshop, hosted by Rte, the French Transmission System Operator (TSO)!
During the webinar, you will discover the PowSyBl ecosystem as well as handle and study an electrical network through an interactive Python notebook.
PowSyBl is an open source project hosted by LF Energy, which offers a comprehensive set of features for electrical grid modelling and simulation. Among other advanced features, PowSyBl provides:
- A fully editable and extendable library for grid component modelling;
- Visualization tools to display your network;
- Grid simulation tools, such as power flows, security analyses (with or without remedial actions) and sensitivity analyses;
The framework is mostly written in Java, with a Python binding so that Python developers can access PowSyBl functionalities as well.
What you will learn during the webinar:
- For beginners: discover PowSyBl's functionalities through a quick general presentation and the notebook, without needing any expert coding skills;
- For advanced developers: master the skills to efficiently apply PowSyBl functionalities to your real-world scenarios.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
