- Online resources are websites where you can look for jobs and apply directly online. Many large companies have their own online job boards. Small companies with good websites usually will place a job posting on their website with an email address, while others use job boards such as monster.com or careerbuilder.com. Companies do pay for space on job boards. Craigslist Mpls – many recruiters; please be careful.

- Stand Pretend you are a desktop computer. In the 80’s and 90’s you probably were used for data entry and perhaps print sharing, maybe some minor file sharing. Now, pretend you are laptop computer or blackberry, you are mobile. Slowly Start moving closer to your neighbors so you are almost touching, try to have a person on either side of you. Put elbows out and touch people on either side of you; Now look around, you are a computer of today – you are social networking You are connected! Before you sit down take a moment to say hello to both your neighbors, be sure to try and make a connection online after class.
- The map showed us how many are using social media. Now, who is using it? The average Twitter user is in their 30s . The median age of LinkedIn is 40 . The majority of people who are joining Facebook right now are over 35 . This is because Gen X wants to meet new people online and reconnect with all the friends they lost along the way. Gen X is using social media to network. Gen Y doesn’t need to “Network’ . They never lost their connections because they’ve been online since they were ten. they are native networkers. Twitter - is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that enables its users to send and read messages known as tweets. Tweets are text-based posts of up to 140 characters. Meetup - Helps groups of people with shared interests plan meetings and form offline clubs in local communities around the world. Evite - the top online invitation and social planning website. Plaxo –online address book and networking site that automatically updates. Now owned by Comcast.
- Here is why using online social media works for recruiting: Finding a Personal Fit Verifiying candiate rewards and accolades Matching qualifications (KSA’s in line with employer needs) Checking for good communication skills A way to verify and check references Some Statistics Forty-five percent of employers reported in a recent CareerBuilder survey that they use social networking sites to research job candidates, a big jump from 22 percent last year. Another 11 percent plan to start using social networking sites for screening. More than 2,600 hiring managers participated in the survey, which was completed in June 2009. Of those who conduct online searches/background checks of job candidates, 29 percent use Facebook, 26 percent use LinkedIn and 21 percent use MySpace. One-in-ten (11 percent) search blogs while 7 percent follow candidates on Twitter. The top industries most likely to screen job candidates via social networking sites or online search engines include those that specialize in technology and sensitive information: Information Technology (63 percent) and Professional & Business Services (53 percent). - Twitter Provides a posting platform for submits tweets (text messages) to the world. It is a text messaging service that sends messages to your phone or email accounts. It is a powerful tool for ‘push’ marketing. As a twitter user you can follow certain groups or individuals. One of those groups is Tweetmyjobs. tweetMYJOBS is a service that brings recruiters, hiring managers and job seekers together on Twitter. They describe themselves as a job board that provides INSTANT notification of open positions via text messaging. Job seekers can follow certain tweetmyjobs industry groups and receive text messages to their email or phone instead of searching they are being pushed job information.

- CINDY Another reason to use online social networking tools is to have a free vehicle to increase your market. So, let’s talk SEO. SEO is the process of how search engines find information and prioritize that information and display those results. Top or right navigation results are paid advertising; other results are based on the number of keywords, or the number of times that search string is found online. Your goal. If you want to increase your individual or companies online presence you will want to increase the number of times you appear in search results. I’ve heard this referred to as increasing your eyeballs. Getting more people to look at you and invest in your offerings. How do you maximize your SEO. increase you online participation. For example; if I want my name to appear in google search results to help market my business it helps me to have increased online involvement by commenting on newgroups, blogs, or in linkedin group discussions. Take some time to google yourself or your company and see what type of SEO or online presence exists.
