  • #2 Welcome. Cyber schools, home schooling and online schools are gaining interest across the country. To remain competitive we need to be proactive and prepare online courses. Before we begin to prepare the courses, we need to focus with the end in mind and consider how we will evaluate such courses. I am going to present a proposal for Online Course Evaluations for Parkland High School. This proposal will demonstrate a comprehensive review of new online programs.
  • #3 Parkland School District includes one High School, two Middle Schools and eight Elementary Schools. There are 17,000 multi-cultural students. Various socio-economic backgrounds, from very wealthy to poverty. There is a large population of special needs and ESL students.
  • #7 The objectives, learning outcomes and requirements of the course were clearly stated. Tests, quizzes, projects, papers, and reports accurately measured student’s attainment of the learning outcomes. Orientation provided to overview the course and encourage student success. The course is well organized, easy to navigate and use. Materials and contents of the course are clearly presented. Instructor-developed resources, web site, orientation, and printed materials were well designed and helpful. The Class Announcements web page keeps students informed of course requirements and needs.
  • #8 The amount and quality of interaction with the instructor and other students was sufficient to facilitate learning. The threaded discussions are used to contribute to learning. The instructor provided opportunities for students to learn from each other. There was a high level of quality interaction among the students. The discussions were very successful in examining the course content. _____A friendly, social environment was created online in which learning was promoted.
  • #9 The instructor set appropriate deadlines and provided feedback on assignments and projects in a timely manner. Time and energy expectations in the course are grade appropriate. The use of the textbook, web pages, Moodle, and other technology contributed to the understanding of the material. The required reading and assignments contributes to student learning. Instructor was available to students within 24 hours for technology issues and questions. Feedback is clear and useful.
  • #10 The students responded well to the goals and objectives. A majority of the students completed all the assignments on time. The students found the course challenging. The students were comfortable with learning online.
